Chapter Eighteen

Chapter 18: Hating all the Daniels

Alexis's POV

The nauseous and flowery scent enveloped my nostrils. Goosebumps trailed in after. The white walls and tiles completely sobering me up from my half sleepy state.Removing my sunglasses, I made a straight line to the front desk. A bubbly blonde haired lady in a pink gown and white crown like cap greeted me with a smile. She looked a tad bit familiar.

Taking a quick peek at her named card, "Nurse Hailey."

"You remember me. Thank you so much for the other day. I couldn't thank you properly you left hurriedly and  suddenly something came up for me.   You are my life saver. Thank you. Thank you." Her voice was high-pitched as she gabbled.

"Hailey." The nurse beside her scolded but, she didn't seem affected. She still looked at me with a bright smile and wide eyes yelling in admiration.

What exactly did I help her with?

"I'm so sorry about her attitude. Are you here to see the doctor or for visitation?" Another nurse spoke up.

"Visitation. Room number 101S."

"A private ward number. Please write your name here, relationship with the patient and sign."

I did as I was told and passed the paper back.

" What's your relationship with the patient?"

"Her guardian. I stated it there."

"Guardian? But the patient is currently with her guardian."

"What? Her parents found out?" I thought hard, "it's not possible."

"I always write guardian anytime I come to visit."

"You do?"

"Are you sure it's the same Selena we are talking about?" At that moment my phone rang. "A second please."

I glanced at the caller ID then took a deep breath in and exhaled loudly.

"Good morning." His deep husky voice set my legs half way to permanent paralysis.

"Morning." I coughed. Why do I sound like this? I took some steps away from the front desk.

Nurses are like the number one gossipers in the world.

"Are you alright? Are you sick? I'm really sorry about yesterday."

I smiled, "You shouldn't be apologizing. I suggested it."

"I should have talked you out of it."

"Well, I hope I didn't say or do something super weird when I was drunk in the bar and on my way home. Please tell me."

"Don't worry about any of it."

"Please tell me."

"How about over lunch today?" He sounded really sexy. Sexier than before.

"If you spoil me with dates now we just began our relationship. I might ask you for dates everyday in the future." My cheeks were flaming up, I'm sure of it.

"I'm willing to accommodate all your requests milady."

I laughed fanning my face, "How about you? You drunk a lot too right?"

"I did, but I don't get drunk easily."

"Of course. I totally forgot. You are into business."

"Not all businesses men can hold their liquor."

"Of course. You are amazing." I complimented shamelessly

"Thank you. Lexi, where are you? What's up with the sirens?"

"I'm in the hospital. Remember my friend."

"Oh yes. I hope she gets well soon. I really pray so."

"I hope she gets well soon but I hope she stays in the hospital a little longer. I'm playing matchmaker and this is literally the only place they can meet."

"I thought you hated matchmaking?"

"It turned out to reap a good fruit in the end. I am super glad I met you."

"Miss Krystal?" I turned sideways and spotted a smiling Norman. As he walked towards me and I immediately told Daniel goodbye and hung up.

"Norman. Hey! David is still here?" That explains everything.

"He couldn't leave since you weren't here yet."

"Shall we then? He must be super busy. Thank you also."

"No need to thank me Miss Krystal ."

Norman branched the front desk on our way and said a couple of things to the nurses and got me a room tag.

"Thank you."

"Just doing my job. Again"

"Your job wasn't to take care of Selena."

"I didn't. I came to the hospital two times yesterday to drop off their lunch and dinner. Mr. Alokwe was the one that never left her side."

"You are serious. My cousin stayed with Selena all day."

"But, Miss Jones didn't seem to be comfortable—"

"She has to be." I smirked and stepped into the elevator, "Norman, you were here on the first day of Selena's surgery right."

"Yes."

"Did that blonde haired nurse look familiar to you?"

"Yes. You helped her when a patient almost hit her and when the medical director wanted to fire her on the spot."

"Oh… I almost forgot I did such a good deed."

Today can't get any better.

***

"Selena!" I giggled as I threw the door open, my eyes immediately scanning the room. David settled in quite nicely.

"What can I do for you?" Her voice was full and distant

"Selena." I gave her my signature puppy eyes.

"If there's nothing, I'm sorry I won't be able to see you out." She didn't even look at me and pointed to the door

"Come on Lena. You can't say you didn't enjoy hanging out with David. It was either David or Fred."

"Is that a threat or a blackmail." She glared

"None. Lena please, forgive me this once. It won't ever happen again." I took a seat on her bed and slowly reached for her hand

"I won't have a brain surgery ever again. Don't worry." She folded her arms "Mr. Alokwe shouldn't you be leaving now?"

"Norman let's go."

"Hey. Hey. Hey. What's wrong with the atmosphere here. Did you guys fight?" I rushed to the door and spread my hands wide.

"You can leave with them too Miss Krystal. You should also be really busy going on dates."

"See you later David." I even bowed like a servant as he left. He'd stared at me for a while before stepping out. He's going to settle scores with me soon.

"What the hell was that?" I folded my arms

"You can leave if you want to question that?"Selena closed her eyes

"So I'm allowed to stay now." I clapped gleefully

"I think I'm going to change my—"

"I have a lot to talk to you about." I rushed to her side and wrapped my arm around hers.

"You resigned from a job I worked had to get for me without telling me. That's really a lot to talk about"

"That's why you were angry? Thank goodness. I thought you were angry I set you up with David." I sighed

"Alexis!"

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You both just look great together?"

"I look great with the fourth richest man in the entire world?"

"Don't underestimate your self girl. You do. In fact, I think —"

"He asked me to be his freaking personal freaking assistant. Does that sound like someone that likes me?"

"Fuck! He said he'd give you a job at ALK. I had no idea it'll be the post of personal assistant Lena. I'd talk to him." By blood boiled.

"And stop setting us up. I don't want to be a full time writer now. Don't worry about the job also. I think I should have a pile of contracts on my mail. I can't wait to get discharged."

"Thank you for not staying angry but, I won't. He  definitely likes you. Just doesn't know it yet. He might know but can be in denial." I shrugged

"Lexi. Are you listening to your self?"

"The only girls he has ever been close to that isn't family is Anastasia Cinderella Houston and Esther Hicks. He even keeps a really good distance with them. He stayed with you all night. I actually thought if I made that request to him, he'd hire a nanny for us."

"So, you are telling me he likes me by asking me to be his personal assistant."

"Aren't you listening? But Yes."I nodded

"And I should be happy about this fact."

"Lena." A storm was coming

"Get out." She forced her arm out of mine and looked the other way

"Come on Lena. Fine. No more David talk.  Have you eaten anything?"

"Yes." She sighed

"David is so efficient. Are you sure you don't want him coming over"

"Why are you even here?"

"To talk about my date with my best friend." I landed on the couch

"Do you mind telling me his name now?"

"Daniel Perkins. He's into Food and Catering."

"Perkins."

"Why did you repeat his last name that way?" I asked as I searched through the bags laying beside me.

"Nothing."

"I know we promised to hate all Daniels in the world but, I really like him. I'd forever hate Daniel, you know who."

"And, I'm not going to tell you to ever break up with him. Congratulations Alexis and I mean it. You deserve the a world full of happiness and love. "

"Thank you." I sniffed and closed my eyes looking up.

"Can you go ask the doctor to push my discharge forward. I feel perfectly fine."

"Nice try but no. You are going to complete your two weeks here"

"Fine." She groaned

"I have a lunch date and oh my... I forgot I hung up on him out of nowhere when Norman yelled 'Miss Krystal'."

"What's with the face? Why would you be hiding your relationship from you Cousin's secretary?"

"Come to think of it, I have no idea. I felt like I was caught doing something bad."

"You were talking to your boyfriend."

"I guess it was reflex. Gosh. This is because I haven't dated in like five years. My mom would have killed me then, if I had a boyfriend."

"Now, you are an adult."

"I guess I am."

"So fill me in completely now. Yesterday, I would have killed to have some girl talk. Wait Lexi, what did you expect me and David to talk about?"

"Love." I shrugged

"Forget I asked." She rolled her eyes"About your date?"

"Guess where we went to?"

"A restaurant?"

"No. We went indoor camping."

"Aw. You've never gone camping."

"That's the best part."

*flash back*

We got settled in the trailer and he handed me a couple of comfortable wears.

"It's going to be a pretty long night." He was putting on an apron and his sleeves were folded up. He looked too alluringly. My mouth was wide opened as I lost myself staring at his godlike body.

"Lexi."

"Yes." I blinked and stare at my hands, "I'd go get changed now."

Changing into the clothes, my hands suddenly turned cold. My intestines felt like they were being knotted together and my heart pounded.

"Are you alright over there?"

Am I truly alright? No! "Yes."

It's hard to deny that he makes me the happiest person in the world with every of his actions. Shouldn't I be hovering happily around him right now.

My stupid legs don't seem to want to move anymore.

"Lexi. Is something wrong? I'm coming in."

"One minute." I darted to the door and made sure it was locked. In a cross position, I inhaled and exhaled heavily.

Now my legs decided to work.

"Lexi."

"I'm totally fine just give me a minute." My eyes were sealed shut as I prayed he'd leave me alone.

"Tell me if you need anything."

"Lexi?"

"Oh… Lexi you scared me."

"Sorry."

"Are you okay?"

I nodded "What's for dinner?"

*flash back ends*

"I wanted to run away at that moment. It was happening so fast."

"You almost had a panic attack because of a date." Selena chuckled lightly

"It seems like you've never dated a guy you really love."

"That was a bit hurtful."

"Sorry, you were laughing."

"You care that's why you had an attack. What happened after that?"

"He made us a feast. He's like a five start hotel chef."

"He can cook."

"More like he can create a new recipe from scratch."

"You hit the jackpot girl."

"Thank you."

"You are welcome. After dinner in the trailer?"

"I suggested we'd go for Karaoke."

"What?"

"I think I got a little tipsy from the wine we had during dinner and forced him to take me there."

"Then you had more to drink"

"Sadly."

"No! Did you?"

"I have no idea."

"And you hung up on him. Call him back immediately."

"What should I say?"

"Don't look at me. I'm a destined single but rich person."

"Why did you ask me to call him back then?"

"Courtesy demands it."

"You are so not helping." I groaned

"I'm sorry. Please stop laughing like that"

"I'm going to have to set you up with David again."

"What?"

"Excuse me. I have to go apologize to my boyfriend."

"Hey! Come back here."

"I'm going to send Fred in." I opened the door

"You wouldn't dare."

"Hey! Daniel." I stepped out.
