After the talk with my dad I went over all my memories involving Kate.

I won’t say that I had a crush on her. It was more like a weird pull of attraction.

I remember the first time it started. It was the week after what I like to call ‘Slipping’. That was the week she looked like she would die at any moment.

I wasn't drawn to her beauty or gentle features. I was drawn to her inner strength. She may not see it. A lot of people don't actually see it but for those that go through abuse, especially from the people close to the heart. They are strong. I'm talking about those who didn't commit suicide or go crazy.

They may not be strong physically, mentally or emotionally but when it comes to endurance or just holding on, I believe they are the strongest.

Those were the qualities that I was drawn to. I don't know about the others though but I do know that I hope they weren't attracted to her at all.

She is so adorable. Her round face and button nose, plus her pouty lips and mint green eyes all framed with black hair.

I believe that the mate bond was already taking root before her birthday and that was why I was drawn to her.

I smiled to myself. I couldn't wait to see her tomorrow.

I thank the Moon goddess for Alpha camp where I learned to compose myself in all situations because right now, I was ready to explode with excitement.

“I’m surprised he isn't jumping in his seat.” I heard Ryan whisper. I rolled my eyes at them as I got out the car.

I took a big breath in order to pick up her scent.

I did pick up a scent that made my wolf yell happily in my head but it wasn't Kate’s.

Kate smelt like roses and mint but this person smelt like pine and peppermint.

I was utterly confused but my wolf was more focused on savouring the new scent.

“Guys, something isn't right.” I said and turned to face them.

“Kate’s scent has changed totally. I need you to go find out what happened to her while I track the owner of the scent.” I told Ryan and Grant.

They had surprised looks on their faces but nevertheless, they nodded and went on their way while I tracked the scent.

To say I was shocked would have been so wrong. My mind was totally blown.

The owner of the scent was Diana. It was so confusing. They weren't twins based on the information we found, so how did she become my mate?

Kate didn't reject me because I didn't feel any pain and even if she did reject me, I doubt the Moon goddess would give me Diana as a mate. That would be like betraying Kate.

She was alone by her locker and I knew that she could smell me.

I would have to face her sooner or later since we share classes.

My wolf was pestering me to go to his mate but I couldn't. I wouldn't. I didn't want her, I was very happy with Kate. I would reject Diana but I want to find out how my mate got swapped. My fear was that if I reject her would be the same as rejecting Kate?

I immediately left my position and went away. I didn't want to be in her presence.

I managed to stay away from her for most of the day but my wolf had had enough and decided to go meet his mate.

He was wrapped around her fingers and looked at her like she was the world. It disgusted and angered me. I know the mate bond throws out the reasoning of wolves and replaces it with primal instincts but c’mon, this girl is heartless and a hunter, she would kill the entire pack.

I was happy to be home. I was frustrated and angry and the mental war with my wolf was leaving me with a terrible headache.

“Do you guys have any idea about what is going on? Did she say anything?” I asked expectantly.

“She didn't say anything but her body language said she knows everything that's going on. My guess is probably that she's been beaten into silence and secrecy.

“As to the swap, I have two theories. The first is that they probably made Diana drink whatever runs through Kate’s veins or a witch cast some sort of spell.” Grant said sounding so serious and lost in thought at the same time. I was about to reply when one of the patrollers mind linked me.

“Alpha, there are hunters at the South border, we need reinforcements.”

I related the information to the guys and we bolted out of my room and to the South border.

There were a total of ten hunters but by the time we got there five were already killed. We killed three more but kept the last two.

I asked Dave, my chief of security, to be in charge of the two vampires. We collared them with a special collar. The collar contains a mix of garlic and holy water. The collar weakens them to the point where they are practically human.

When that was done, I went on a run in my wolf form into the fields. I needed to clear my head.

My wolf settled in the middle of the meadow and his senses finally returned.

“Why did our mate change?” he asked me.

“I don't know but tommorow I’m going to test and see if she's our real mate.” I told him.

I'm supposed to feel sparks when she touches me. Since I wasn't paying attention today, tomorrow will reveal if she is true or not.

I was extremely worried about today. What if there were sparks? What would that mean for me and Kate?

I told Ryan and Grant to watch Kate just in case anything happened.

I was at my locker when she came over.

“Hey.” she greeted.

I silently groaned before I put on a smile and turned around.

“How are you doing today?” I asked.

She smiled. “I’m fine thanks for asking. Umm, I forgot to ask yesterday, what pack are you from?” she asked me as she stylishly touched my hand.

I felt nothing. I wanted to smile so bad and at the same time I wanted to make a run for it. I didn't want to tell her anything.

As Diana was waiting for my reply she turned her head and narrowed her eyes. I followed her gaze and saw Kate talking to someone.

Why was she glaring?

“I’m sorry, I have to go talk to my sister.” she said with a small smile and went in Kate’s direction. She sent the person away and by the looks of it, she scolded Kate. She looked so scared. I was getting defensive.

When Diana left, Kate turned to me and gave me a weak smile before she walked away.

Did she know what Diana was asking me?

How did she know that Diana would notice?

Why did she help me?

Did she know I was her mate?

Those were the questions running through my head and I and my wolf just got more confused. The only thing that made me happy was that Kate is my true mate. I just need to find out how to get her back.
