Hunting Goblins I

{GOBLIN HUNTING QUEST!!!

Adventurers! A large group of goblins has been reported harassing travelers along the southern road, stealing supplies and equipment. The mayor has announced a bounty of one hundred silver coins for the eradication of the group. The group is estimated to have at least fifty to seventy goblin warriors and archers. Victims also claims to have felt the use of magic, suggesting a goblin shaman. Such a large group will also have a chief. Therefore, it is suggested at least a group of ten to twenty silver ranked adventurers take upon this quest, and no less.

The Mayor's Office}

Freya eyes scanned the piece of paper. She didn't care about the silver coins as she currently had more than enough, but a group of seventy goblins would provide a large amount of experience even if they were of lower levels than her. She will definitely level up a couple of times and may even reach her goal of reaching level 20.

The problem was whether she would be able to deal with the large group on her own. Even before the system, she was a competent adventure, able to fight at most seven goblins simultaneously with her dagger and her spells. However, seventy goblins led by a chief and a shaman, also including a group of archers, was another thing entirely.

'It's possible.' Art spoke up. 'There's likely more than seventy goblins, as I doubt the whole group would attack travelers. At least some would be left to protect their main base. It will be difficult, but with a good plan it will be definitely possible.'

Freya listened to his words carefully and continued to think as she stared at the blue sheet only she could see.

She finally gave in and accepted the quest. The system also provided an extra reward for completing a bonus objective. She finally asked the mastermind in her head.

'So, what's the plan?'

***

Two days later,

Deep in the Forest,

South of Betlam

Two goblins stood guarding a hole in the ground. The green creatures were a little taller than three feet. Each held a small spear in their hands. Their squinted eyes scanning the dark forest. While their eyesight was not the best during such moonless night, but it was certainly better than humans.

However, the two vigilant goblins failed to notice an existence hiding in one of the trees until two arrows pierced their heads, killing them on the spot. The hooded figure quickly arrived towards their bodies before silently casting a spell.

'Earth Barrier.'

A large amount of the ground began to shift and started to cover the large hole, until a large mound replaced the hole in the ground. Freya just plugged the fourth hole into the goblin den, and there were three more left.

She quickly moved to the next location, while placing her new bow on her back. She had purchased one for ranged combat that would help save her mana, after all she would need a lot of mana to deal with this group. Not only that, but she already had some experience in using bows, so it was no problem. It was an uncommon ranked Ranger's Bow with 170 damage. Yet this had cost her almost forty silver coins, using up almost half her of her reward already.

However, she couldn't deny it was better than her flashy spell in a stealth based situation like this. She soon reached the fifth entrance and sealed it after killing the goblins guarding it. She repeated this once more until reached the last entrance, she quickly killed the goblins guarding it and prepared to execute their plan.

Furthermore, she pulled a couple of round objects from her and began her attack.

[Large Smoke Bombs

Description: A Smoke bomb created with alchemy. Channel a bit of mana into it, and it will create a large amount of smoke over a wide area with a 5-second delay.]

Freya had previously mapped the tunnel system using earth magic when she was scouting the area during the previous day. Among all the entrances, only this one led directly to the largest chamber inside, which was connected to all other chambers. She assumed it was the main chamber and chose this entrance for her attack.

She threw five of the bombs into the tunnel and cast a wind spell to boost them, and then quickly retreated and climbed a tree before casting a fire spell, creating a large ring of fire surrounding the entrance.

A few moments later, smoke began to rise from the hole in the ground, and a few coughing goblins also ran out. Freya quickly shot down three of them, but soon the goblins came rushing out in greater and greater numbers. She continued to fire arrows, but they were simply too many, besides to her this was just target practice, the real battle had yet to begin.

Just as expected, soon enough, a larger than average goblin came out of the tunnel and noticed its dead comrades. It began shrieking orders to the rest of the goblins, and they quickly formed in to a formation forming a shield wall preventing Freya from shooting down any more goblins.

The chief goblin had arrived. He was taller than the rest and was wearing the skin of some dead animal as armor. A crown of small bones and feathers adorned his head. He held a large bone with spikes on one end as a weapon.

Freya put down her bow and began casting spells.

"Fireball! Fireball! Fireball!"

Her low tier flames rapidly flew and destroyed the shield in an explosion of flames, creating even more casualties. Two of the fireball decimated their formation, but before the third could reach them, a shield of water erupted from the ground, blocking the stop.

The second one of her problems had arrived. A female goblin dressed in a dark robe appeared behind the shield wall. She was holding a wooden stick with a green gem embedded on its head. She was using her staff to maintain the water shield, while using her other hand to cast a spell, trying to douse the flames surrounding them.

With her two opponent present, Freya began the last part of her plan. She jumped across the flames into the fire ring and pulled out her steel sword. The chief, finally noticing her, shrieked once more and a small group of goblins began to run towards her. Freya just cast a first circle lightning spell that quickly killed two of them. She beheaded the next three with a single slash of her sword.

Freya had diligently completed her daily quest for the last two days. Gaining the extra stats points in strength, stamina and dexterity. She had also invested her reserved points in reparation to face the chief and the shaman.
