Whether this method will work or not, no one is confident, not even Yang Ping. He is only convinced by his meticulous thought that theoretically it is feasible, but since there is no precedent to refer to, it is unclear whether it will actually work. This is the first time this new method is being used, otherwise it wouldn't be called a new method.
Might as well be trying to bring a dead horse back to life, as other methods have failed anyway.
However, the method sounds reasonable. Previously, nobody thought to apply any new methods, sticking strictly to conventional treatment guidelines. The inevitable poor outcomes never led to any reflection.
With other diseases, it's the same. People just follow the prescribed treatments without questioning why they are doing so or whether they can make changes. In medicine, the cost of even a small change can be much greater than in other professions.
