29. A debt to pay

"Oh, shit..."

Mona instinctively blocked her lips after exclaiming a curse. She learned the habit of covering her mouth every time she would cuss, even though she wasn't too ashamed of speaking some light curses. But because cursing in the presence of a priest was considered very rude, she tried very hard to suppress her inner vulgar attitude. Only when she was with Eli did she try to let her mouth run.

The reason behind her sudden cursing was the blackish gas that decayed everything it covered, unfolding and slowly creeping from a distance.

She held the rein tighter and halted Nyx. The horse will soon feel frightened at its contact, so Mona decides to leave Nyx not far away from the lake instead. She tied the rein on a branch of a luscious tree and rubbed the horse's mane.

As if talking to a child, she spoke to the horse, "Wait here, Nyx. But once that dark air already crept here, make sure to run the opposite way."
