CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: Why did you try to kill me?

“If you have no need of me for a little while, my lady, I’ll be away to tend to my other duties?”

At once Amelia felt ashamed of herself for having taken the beta away from her proper duties for so long.

“Thank you, Sian,” she said sweetly, “And please, forgive me of my mistake, will you? I promise you truly and certainly that I am a good person.”

Sian looked flustered to hear her pleading for forgiveness as she was not perfect herself but she was obviously still unconvinced that the King’s mate was not an enchantress. Her doubtful eyes betrayed her although she smiled warmly at Amelia, “Oh, my lady, you must not apologize! There will be enough time before the mating season to know of your true character. But now, by your wish, I must leave?”

Amelia sighed, “Be off with you then, Sian. Oh, and you don’t need to come back and help me t’ dress after you are done with your other chores. I can dress myself well enough, thank you.”
