Chapter TWO

  SHOCKING DISCOVERY

Geometry class was fun for Becca as she understood all the teacher Miss Angela taught. She just hoped that all classes would be as enjoyable as this.

After Geometry they had Chemistry, English Studies and History. Becca was exhausted.

Even though all the teachers taught well and she paid attention to every bit of the teaching she still wanted to rest a little as she was getting tired.

Luckily they had a free period so while others were busy chatting, scrolling through their phones or going out for some air, she was resting.

The school felt a little strange to her. No one really came to talk to her or welcome her except Steph. It was just like they didn't care and the way some people started at her still made her uncomfortable.

Everything about the students made her uncomfortable but it was mostly their dressing and the way they acted.

Even though they all wore the same uniform, some students made their's classy with expensive accessories like their bags, shoes, headbands, watches etc.

It made her feel a little out of place with the things she was putting on but she just encouraged herself that she belonged there and they were just teenagers like her.

She decided to use the rest of free period to go on a tour of the school with Steph and she loved it.

Everywhere captivated her from the music room, to the arts room, the swimming pool , the various labs and the basketball court.

The school was truly amazing. She had to pinch herself to make sure that she was not dreaming.

Steph led her through a back door and a series of steps and soon they came out on the roof of the two story school building.

The view from you there was amazing. You could see trees and building from far away. You could feel the gentle breeze on your skin making you relaxed. Everything was magical.

“You love it don't you?” Steph asked her smiling.

Becca nodded lost for words to describe how she felt.

“Me too. It's one of my favorite places to relax in this school and get away from all the stress”. Steph said laughing and sitting on down.

“You don't seem like someone who would get stressed. You seem perfect”. Becca told her honestly.

Steph had a long natural wavy blond hair that she loved to twirl with her fingers and beautiful blue eyes that sparkled when she was excited.

She had the physical appearance of a model as she was tall with wide hips and a small waist.

Her uniform fit her perfectly like a second skin and it brought out her lovely shape even more.

Becca actually envied her body shape wishing she was as curvy as that but sadly she was not.

“Becca your so funny”. Steph said laughing.

"I'm really not perfect as you think even though it might seem like that sometimes. I have problems and weaknesses too.”

“I guess no one is truly perfect. You talked about this being one of your favorite places to relax.

Are there are their other places as incredible as this?”. Becca wondered.

“Yup! Some are even cooler than here.

This is school is quite large so there are bound to be lots of relaxation spots.

I might show you some later but first I have something to tell you.

You might have seen most of the school rules on the students handbook but we also have some unwritten laws which most people don't know about.

One; we don't associate with the lower class. We don't make friends with them or talk to them and stuff like that.

Two; the lower class can get bullied and humiliated and the culprit can get away with it.

Three; no one dares interfere or report when someone is being bullied. Those who do usually suffer bitter consequences.

That's why I didn't want you to say you were on a scholarship and from the lower class.

If you had done so you would have become an easy target for bullies and I didn't want that”.

“But I'm not from a rich home. I can't pretend I am. They will surely find out”. Becca protested.

“Just stay under me and you will be safe. I'll protect you. We are friends after all”. Steph assured her.

“All these rules seem stupid. Like can't we fight it, report to the VC or something? We have to do something about it instead of just sitting back and watch things unfold”.

“There's nothing we can do about it. The rules were made by the owner of the school who is super powerful so we can't go against it not even the VC”. Steph shrugged.

“What! So the VC knows about all that has been happening and nothing has been done. That's shit!”. Becca said angrily.

“You don't know the half of it. Some bad things have really happened to some students here. I wouldn't want it to happen to you. Let's just leave it at that”.

“But the owner of the school is so cruel and heartless. Why make such stupid rules against a certain class of people? I hate him already”.

“I can't really say but his reasons must be personal if you ask me.

I heard he's actually a student of this school but no one knows

who he really is so we can't do anything about it”.

“That's shit there has to be a way”.

“Trust me there none you just have to do as I say for you to survive. But if you don't like it you can always leave”.

Becca sighed. Attending this school is a once in a lifetime opportunity for her. She can't just throw it away because if some silly rule.

“l think I'll manage”. She said after much thought.

“Great! And also you have to look the part. Your bag and sneakers are of low quality, you can't keep wearing them”.

“But that's all I have and they were a gift to me by my mom”. Becca said sadly feeling bad as Steph called them low quality items.

“Don't worry I'll get you a better pair tomorrow. Trust me it's for the best”.

She told her twirling one of her locks with her hand and flashing Becca one of her award-winning smiles.

“Thanks for helping me. You're the best”.

Just then the bell rang signifying it was lunch time.

“Its lunch time already that means we have missed a class”. Becca said worried.

“Don't worry we could always borrow the notes to write later”. Steph assured her and she felt at ease.

“Let's go to the cafeteria for lunch”. Steph offered an d they both stood up and went to the cafeteria.

The cafeteria was large and spacious with different kinds of mouthwatering dishes served from the lunch lady.

The only downside was that they had to pay for the food and they were too expensive for most of the lower class students.

At the cafeteria, Steph introduced Becca to the members of her clique Tracy and Alice as her childhood friend and they welcome her warmly.

One practice bcommon in Hilton High was students keeping to their own cliques and Steph cliques was one of the most popular ones.

Another common practice was sitting in special tables during lunch in the cafeteria.

The popular kids had special tables reserved for them while the non popular students sat at regular tables.

Becca wanted to go back to class since she couldn't afford to buy lunch when Steph stopped her and bought lunch for her and she was grateful.

She sat down with them in their special seat to eat and said nothing while the girls were discussing about the latest fashion trends, whose party to attend next, what happened last week

  during gym and the likes.

Her eyes roamed around the room observing the different activities of the students.

Some were chatting happily with their friends while some were eating alone quietly.

She suddenly locked eyes with someone who was staring intently at her.

The way he was staring at her made her shy that she had to look away.

She looked up again and he was staring at her and she felt nervous.

When she looked closely at him he shared a faint resemblance with the lady in the portrait.

They had the same blue eyes and the same colour of hair but she wasn't sure about it

She planned to ask Steph about it later when he looked away and and she gave a sigh of relief and went back to eating her lunch.
