Chapter FIVE

  A SILLY ARGU

When they arrived at the roof Becca saw different shopping bags arranged at a corner and she was shocked.

“How did you manage to sneak all this up here?” she asked Steph excitedly.

“I have my ways” she said proudly twirling a lock of her hair around her fingers.

“But then why are you showing me all this” Becca asked confused. Why would Steph bring her all the way here just to show her this?

“They're for you silly! Remember I told you that I would get you

new things to use instead of the outdated ones that you are currently putting on”

“Wow thank you so much they're really beautiful! I just can't believe that you'll go through all this stress for me, I'm really greatfull” Becca told her happily admiring the beautiful things that Steph got for her.

“You're welcome best! By the way how did you get to school this morning? I am just wondering”

“Uhm I left the house early, I took a bus and walked down the remaining distance to school. I came early so I don't think that anyone saw me” Becca explained to her.

“That's still dangerous someone might have seen you. You really have to be careful with the things you do around here you can't be acting nonchalantly” Steph advised her obviously displeased with what she did.

“So what do you suggest I do then? I can't hire a car or something and I can't keep entering a cab everyday I don't have the money for

that. I'm just so confused” Becca complained tiredly.

“Let me see” Steph said putting her hand on her chin and thinking.

“Why don't you come over to my house every morning and then we go to school together and we come back home together.

I'm sure that your dad won't mind and we would get to spend lots of time together and catch up. I think it's a great idea” Steph suggested to Becca her eyes sparkling with excitement.

“It sounds like lots of work!” Becca sighed. “All this is just stressing me out and I don't want that”.

“Don't tell me your going to chicken out?” Steph asked her in a mocking tone gazing intently at her and putting her hands on her waist.

“Maybe! I don't know! I'm just not comfortable with all this lieing, it makes me feel sick”. Becca told her honestly sitting down and resting her back on the wall.

“Seriously stop making it seem as if I'm a bad person because I'm trying to look out for you.

You know what? Just do whatever you want, I'm out of here” Steph told her stomping her feet and leaving the roof angrily.

“Steph wait! Wait up!” Becca said running after her but she refused to listen hee and kept moving forward.

“I don't even know why she got angry. I was just trying to tell her my mind but she's blowing things out of proportion” Becca thought.

She decided to let Steph be and get ready for her next class that had already started.

On getting to her locker she spotted Tracy standing three lockers away from her and she waved cheerfully at her.

“Becca darling!” Tracy said excitedly waving back at Becca and she walked up to her and stood beside her.

“Which class do you have now?” Becca asked trying to be friendly. She was great when it came to relating and having conversations with people.

That ability just came naturally to her even when others found it hard and frustrating. She had a lovable personality that helped her make friends easily.

“Uhm I think I have geography next” Tracy said nonchalantly going through her phone and giggling.

“Wow! I also have geography as my next class though it seems as if the class has already started.

Would you mind if we go to class together?” she asked Tracy who was engrossed in what she was staring at that was making her laugh.

“Well I was supposed to wait for Alice but it seems that she already left. Let's go” she told Becca and they walked hand in hand to their class.

They walked inside and the teacher was already teaching so they quickly looked for somewhere to sit.

Few minutes later Steph walked in looking moody. She went to sit down at her usual sit and rested her head on the desk, no one made much attention to her and class continued.

“What do you think is up with Steph?” Tracy whispered to Becca since they were sitting beside each other.

“I don't know” Becca said shrugging her shoulders and trying to concentrate on what the teacher Mr Davies was saying.

“She has to know something” Tracy thought to herself. She had seen Steph talking to Becca earlier looking all happy and excited and now she was sad and Becca was pretending like nothing happened.

Something was up and Tracy was determined to find out. Everything about Becca was just weird and it irritated her greatly.

The teacher left the class few minutes later and Tracy walked up

  to where Steph was sitting.

“Are you okay?” she asked Steph with concern. Her head was still resting on the desk and it made Tracy worried.

“Trace it's nothing, I'm fine” Steph assured her but she was not convinced. “I've never seen you this sad so whatever made you feel this way has to be important. I just want to be of help, you to know that you can always count on me ”

“I already told you that I'm fine. Can you just mind your business and let me be” Steph lashed at her and walked out of the class angrily leaving Tracy shocked.

“Steph has never shouted at me this way before and I was just trying to check on her. I'm sure it's the new girls fault” Tracy thought also leaving the class angrily.

“Why does my second day here have to be this frustrating” Becca thought to herself. She felt tired from all that was happening.

She needed a break from all the stress so she decided to go back to the roof of the building to arrange the things that Steph had

bought for her and maybe rest a little from all the drama happening.

She walked to the back door that Steph had shown her earlier and opened it. The room was a little dark so Becca couldn't see much except the steps of stairs leading to the roof.

“Please...help me” she heard someone say faintly. She wondered if someone actually said it or it was just her imagination.

“He..llp” the voice came again this time weaker than it was the first time and Becca strained her ears to locate the direction it was coming from.

After a few seconds of searching she saw someone folded together like a sack at the back of the stair case and she quickly went to help her.

The girl's face was filled with bruises and there was blood coming out from the side of her lips. From the expression on her face you could tell that she was in immense pain.

“What happened to you?”;Becca asked with concern helping her to stand up from the floor.

“Uhm I fell from the stair case” the girl said but Becca felt she was lieing.

“If you ask me you look like someone who was beaten up and not who fell.

You don't have to lie to me, tell me what really happened maybe I could be of help and report those who did this to you” Becca told her.

“I fell okay! There's nothing more to it. Please just take me to the nurses office” the girl shouted at Becca.

“Who shouts at the person that's trying to help them” Becca thought to herself. She excused the girl's rude behaviour since she was in pain and based on the girls direction they both went to the nurses station.

“Bethany what happened this time?” the nurse sighed on seeing

the girl. She didn't even seem shocked or surprised, she acted as if it was a normal thing to her.

“Oh the usual, I fell down from the stair case” Bethany replied nonchalantly going to sit down on of the beds and the nurse started to administer treatment on her.

“Seriously how can you be so calm about this?” Becca told the nurse. “I brought her here seriously injured and you don't even seem surprised.

Any idiot could see that she was beaten up yet you seem okay with it. Who does that?” Becca ranted.

“Why are you making such a big deal about it? People get beaten up all the time. You're acting as if you're new to this school or something like that” Bethany said annoyed at Becca's behaviour.

“Actually I am new to this school and I have to say that it's very weird. The students are just strange and generally annoying.

Well since you're getting treated my work here is done. Have a

nice day” she told Bethany leaving the nurses office angry at what happened.

“This school is just something else. I'm sure that a bully must have done that to her and no one is going to do anything about it.

The rules here make me sick. Oh God how am I going to survive in this place” she thought and was walking absent mindedly to the back door when are bumped into someone.

“I'm so sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going” she apologized to the guy she bumped into.

“There's no problem. It happens all the time to me, maybe I'm a lady magnet” he said smiling. “ I'm Andrew and you?” he asked holding out his hand for a handshake.

“I'm Becca” she replied 8cheerfully shaking his hands.

“Becca! Wow that's a lovely name. Well I hope to see you around Becca” Andrew said smiling and left.

“He's really nice” Becca smiled to herself as she walked to the roof of building.
