Heidi's POV
"Heidi, you can go home now. Don't worry. We won't deduct it from your pay." Kyle said, leaving me confused.
I don't know what happened, but Kyle suddenly asked me to go after he talked with Ethan. I am so curious. He has dirt, and maybe it's blood on his shirt. Perhaps, he was from a fight.
I picked up my bag and looked at my watch. It is 1 pm, and I'd better hurry up. I've got a class and midterm exam at 2:30 pm. I walked to the bus station since it was near. It took me 40 minutes to reach the school. Why does it have to be traffic today?
After I stepped off the bus, I saw Gelo talking on the phone while leaning on his car hood. Then, he turned around and saw me. I notice that he almost throws his phone from the shock upon seeing me. Why?
"What happened, Gelo?" I asked him, and he just shook his head. I can still see how shocked he is. "I better go, Gelo. I only have 30 minutes left before my class starts." I said and quickly ran away.
My class ended at 7:30 pm. I saw Ethan standing in the corridor, but I just passed by him. He turned around and saw me.
"Mills, are you avoiding me?" He asked. I walked continually until no one was around before I looked at him.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked again. I shook my head. "No, you don't. It's me. I don't want my colleagues to get the wrong idea about us. I don't want to be the center of attraction and rumors here in the school." I told him.
"Everyone knows you as the most handsome, wealthiest student and owner of the luxurious cafe in front of the school. As for me, I am just a normal student who only knows how to look for a job to pay for my tuition and support my family." I answered him.
It's been days since I heard everyone gossiping around me. Most of them were saying: a gold digger. If not, she won't stay with Duke. I am ignoring them, but I still don't want to be the content of the rumors.
I saw how shocked he was. I turned around and started walking away, so he won't see me crying, but he grabbed my arm and hugged me tightly.
" Mills, I am your bestfriend. I don't care about what they are saying. What matters to me is you. You are one of the persons I treasure in my life." He said while hugging. "It's getting late. I'll send you home." He added and held my hand while we were on the way to the parking.
After 20 minutes, we arrived at my home. "Mills, there is something I want to tell you." I looked at him, and I saw him looking at me too.
"I liked you, Mills since we were kids. I always teased you because I like the way you react. And I like how you make me laugh even at my loneliest time." He said. I was in shock after hearing those words from him.
"I am sorry, Gelo, but I treat you like an older brother. And I like you as a best friend. I hope you understand." I said to him. I saw the sadness and pain in his eyes, but I couldn't force myself to like him back.
"I understand, Mills. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine. You better head inside, or your mom will get bothered." He said. I nod at him and bid goodbye.
After I had eaten dinner, I took a shower and fixed my things for tomorrow. I have a duty at the hotel at 8 am tomorrow. I wonder how Ethan was doing after I saw him with all that wounds and blood. I better go to sleep so I won't be late tomorrow.
Ethan's POV
It's six in the morning, and I don't feel like getting out of bed. It feels like my body is too heavy to move, but I have some things to be done.
I grabbed a bathrobe and took a shower. When I went down the stairs, I saw Sydney glaring at me.
"Stop that, or I won't allow you to step out of the house today," I said to her with a threatening voice. She changed her face, and now she looks like an adorable puppy. I just rolled my eyes and went outside. I rode my car and drove to the hotel.
For now, I am not worried about Sydney. I have Wolf following her. After 15 minutes, I reached the underground parking. After that, I used the elevator and went directly to my office.
It's only 7:30 am. So I lay down on the couch and took a quick short nap.
Heidi's POV
I arrived at the hotel at precisely 7:55 am. I immediately went to the 36th floor and saw Kyle cleaning his desk.
"Good morning, Kyle. Is he inside?" I asked, and he nodded as a reply. "He wants you to wake him up once you arrive." He said.
I nod at him and leave my bag on the desk. I went inside the office and saw him sleeping on the couch.
"Sir Ethan." I slowly called and approached him. I tried to tap his shoulder, but he was not responding. He is full of sweat.
I touched his forehead and arm. He has a fever. I tried to shake to wake him up, but he twitched and held his side like he was in pain. When I looked at his hand, I saw blood on his shirt. I removed his hand and lifted his shirt. I was shocked to see his wound.
I tried to call him again, but he just held my hand to stop me from waking him up.
"Sir Ethan, are you okay? You have to wake up, or I will call Kyle and bring you to the hospital." I said to him. He held my hand and said. "No, don't call him. I have a first aid kit inside the drawer from my bathroom. Go and get it." I quickly took the first aid kit and immediately went back to him.
I lifted his shirt again and cleaned his wound. It must be from yesterday. After I disinfected his injury, I took a towel from the bathroom and poured cold water on it. I put it on his forehead. So his fever goes down.
While he was sleeping, I cleaned his office, including the bathroom. It was the first time I saw a toilet instead of a washroom in an office.
"Kyle, I'll step out for a bit. I will be right back." I said to Kyle.
I bought breakfast and medicine for him. after 15 minutes, I was back in the office. I checked his forehead, and thankfully, his fever went down.
"Sir Ethan, wake up. You need to eat and take your medicine." He opens his eye to look at me. He nodded and sat on the couch. I prepared his food on the center table, and he started eating.
"I know it is not my place to ask you, but what happened? Why do you have a big wound on your side?" I asked him, but he just glared at me. He is scary.
"Nothing. Don't ask about it, or you'll be in danger." He answered and stood up while holding his wound. Why? Is he doing illegal things? Why can't he tell me?
Nevermind. After he finished his food, he went to his bathroom and took a shower, and I cleaned up the trashes. He went out after 10 minutes and started working on his laptop. Finally, he waves at me, asking me to leave the room.
I saw Kyle sitting at his desk. I approached him and asked him what had happened.
"Kyle, do sir doing illegal things?" He looked at me with a calm face. "Why do you ask?" He answered.
"Nothing. It's just that I saw a slashed wound on his side, and he doesn't want it to treat in the hospital. Is this why you sent me home yesterday?" I asked him again.
"Stop asking, Heidi. It's for your good." He said. I looked at him with a confused face, but he only shook his head as a sign that he won't answer my curiosity. I don't know what is going on, but one thing is for sure, something is going on in here.
Ethan's POV
I am so crazy. Why did I let her see my wound? But I am thankful to her. She took care of me. After eating the food and the medicine she brought, I left her and took a shower.
I already expected that she would ask about what happened, but it's better to keep her away from this. I don't want her to be in danger because of me.
I sat on my chair and started working on my laptop. I waved my hand at Heidi to step out of the room and answered Mike's call on my phone.
"Ethan. We've got a problem." He said. He is currently at one of the hotel branches overseas. "Tell me," I answered.
"Some guests and crews are complaining about the irregularities going on in the hotel." He said. "That's why I sent you. To manage." I said.
"I tried, Ethan. We lose half of the profit to compensate the crews and refund the complaining guests. We can't lose more. I also checked the finance and saw expenses going out without approval." He said. As expected, seems like someone was trying to steal from me.
"Investigate thoroughly, Mike. I need an update three days from now. I will be there as soon as possible." I said to him and dropped the call.
I need to check with Heidi if she has something to do this weekend. I will bring her with me, so she can be more familiar with the outside company and leave Kyle in the hotel to manage while I am gone.
