BLINDNESS OF DEATH

The morning was clear, the sun so hot during the day but very cold during the night. There is a lovely sand road that runs from Litoya to Litawa passing through Sulukutu village. The plain are grass covered and they are lovely beyond any singing of it. The road pass seven miles into them. The tree grow in sand, very hot, do not stand barefoot upon it ,you may injure your feet.

Even if I were getting better but they always put my legs in stock, leaving me alone under a little hut. Whenever they left me alone tied, I used such chance to communicate with God who dwells in the heavens.

It were evening and was morning, the sun rise from the east, very bright, the sky blue, the wind blow gently from North to the South, 15th October, 2004. As nature blessed me with fresh air, I dozed to sleep as I sat alone. When I opened my eyebrows, I saw mother and Mr. Kaumba sitted near me. I was very happy to see the elder brother who came to visit from Lusaka. I knew him that he brought something good from Lusaka.

when I looked straight at the face of my mother, I saw worries. Immediately my mind travelled to Lusaka where I left my best friend who told me ,"courage brother, courage" before I came here. The of my first best was Patias Siachobe, I asked his well being from my brother, but alas! bad new I never expected that is what I received. Mr. Kaumba told me that my friend were sick with a headache only one day and he died. At the same time I was told that Christine my sister whom I left in Lusaka also died after suffering for a week in UTH. I mourned these two at the same time, " why have you left me, oh you loved ones of my life, oh death you are blind, very blind, oh my beloved friend and sister, you were so good to me. You weren't supposed to die so early, when I left you in Lusaka, you were very healthy, it's you who suppose to mourn me today not me to mourn you, because I am still tied for one year, crying day and night, you were my comforters, how have you fallen my comforters?" I mourned them, no one was there to comfort me but God who knows everything. How could death took away the heath one leave me the sickly one, oh truly death is too blind.

I remember one day after the death of those two, I loose myself from those stocks, I wanted to escape to run to a far land. I knew that under the sun they were too much suffering. I don't know where I was going to end up. I looked behind as I kept running toward the North, mother was running behind me calling me to come back, the strongest boys of the village ran after me and catched me,took me back in stock.

After that period I was healed permanently because the doctor told me once I will my stool will turn green from yellow, it will mean poison had become powerless. From that time they stopped putting my legs in wooden stock. It took those two to die for me to be healed. The witch replaced me for my sister, because the witch that a hedge were around me, I couldn't be killed easily. I was healed and we left the Land of Sulukutu with mother back to Lui river our homeland. The witch doctor gave me regulations to follow the lest of my life if I had to prevent my disease to come back, which I disobeyed.
