Rollercoaster Ride

George had called just in time as I was knick-picky about whether I should wear that dreadful lingerie. He told me were going to the carnival, so a dress was out of the question. I put on a blue cardigan and mini skirt and thought that was torture enough. I was so excited as I hadn't been to a carnival before.

He came and picked me up on time, and we were off. When we arrived the carnival venue was packed and I didn't mind till he found us a parking space. At the entrance, I stood in amazement seeing how many rides and events taking place. It was also a perfect night, not too cold and the cloudless sky above was ablaze with the stars. This was a night where magic could happen.

Despite the long line, the cashiers were quite fast and we entered with easy. There was so much to do, I just stood there holding his hand.

"Want some candy," he asked me as he bought a bag of pink candy floss.

"First time?" He asked, and I nodded while eating my candy. He laughed. "Gosh, I forgot. You're not from around here." He rubbed the back of his head. "I thought this would be crony, yet fun at the same time. I guess this is more enjoyable than I thought it would be."

"Oh, I'm having so much fun." I smiled at him. "I don't even know where to start," I said gazing everywhere. "I want to go on the carousel," I squealed at him, pulling at his arm like a little kid. He looked at me helplessly.

"Yeah, why not!" He said, rushing with me.

We joined the carousel's queue, which was made up mostly of little kids and exhausted mothers, and a few others like us.

"I feel like, I'm five," I whispered into his ears.

"Are you chickening out now? Five or not… This still going to be fun," he whispered back, and bite my lip in pure pleasure standing my ground. We were able to get two seats together. I looked at the old carousel which was old-fashioned with detailed horses painted to look like they were stuck in time. Some seemed to be screaming into the air, while others leaped over imaginary hedges, with fairy lights twirled around the poles.

I climbed onto a pale brownish horse and sat comfortably without any problem. I was used to this, and it remind me of home.

"I love horses," I said to him so cheerful. "I used to ride them back in Maine," I confessed to him. He nodded slowly looking at me, as he approached his horse.

"You think I'm crazy right?" I asked him. He looked at me in shock at first.

"No, I think you're hot," he said, and my cheeks just melted. He sat on a horse next to me and hugged it around the neck. Before I could say anything. The music started, tinny at first, then more melodic as the carousel started to turn. He held on tightened onto his horse as it slowly rose into the air and then sank back down again. He laughed nervously.

"You've never ridden a horse before, haven't you?" I asked him.

"Nope, not alive nor this kind," he said anxiously, and I couldn't help but laugh at him.

"It is bad?"

"It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be," he replied to me. I peered up at him, trying to appear relaxed as he held his grip. His eyes meant mine and the fairy lights around the roof's edge converged into a strong neon line as the ride picked up speed. The remainder of the fair turned out to be just a smudgy haze, except for him. How could one ride held such temperament?

When the ride stopped, he took a moment to watch me. As I tried to figure out what I wanted to do next.

"Where did you go?" Must've noticed my faraway expression.

"Nowhere silly, I'm right here," I said to him, while he smiled back.

"What're you thinking?" he asked.

"Nothing," I replied too quickly.

He smiled at my guilty expression. I was sure we both had the same light-headed feeling in our stomachs. We end up buying a ticket for a toss ring and won a key ring. I smile at what he had won, somehow I knew he felt disappointed but I didn't care to win a teddy or anything like that.

He glanced up at the Ferris wheel which discharged a mechanical screech each time it turned. I squeezed his hand.

"What do you want to do now?" I looked at him, as he asked while staring at it. There was no way I was getting on that thing. It was way too high and it didn't sound right.

"Oh, let's go see what's happening over there," I distracted him, pulling him to the excitement I was seeing.

There was a small crowd watching a guy on stilts twirling a set of fire around his naked torso. The flames formed Catherine of wheels in the air. It was impressive, and to see it the night it made all the inkier for the brilliance of the cosmic light to be embraced. I watched as the dance of fire lit around the wheeler, each time it turned like momentarily written light ink in the night.

I looked up at him, my eyes wide with excitement. "Do you want to sneak past this big tent?"

"What do you want over there?" George looked at me surprised.

I had to tiptoe so I could whisper in his ear. "Maybe we can find somewhere quiet to hang out. You know, just you and me." I didn't give him much of a chance to answer as I began to lead him away from the crowd, searching for the edge of the tent. It had become so dark and it felt like we were going up a slope.

"This way," I said as if I knew where we were going, as he followed me.

We climbed the small hill with the smell of freshly mown grass made the air heavy, sickly sweet. The sky was still now, dark and gloomy, but the light from the carnival made it easy to see. The familiar buzzing of the surrounding wildfire is no longer present, expected for the distant chatter and shouting excitements.

"Hey," he squeezes my hand stopping me. I turned to look at him. "I think this is far enough."

"Really, I was wondering how far you were willing to go."

In that instant, I realized what I had done. Those blue skies ran across me, with clouds floating in his head. Suddenly, the occasional cool breeze that was swirling around us, wasn't cooling the heat that was bronzing. Unfortunately, there isn't enough of a breeze to keep cool. In fact, it was so hot, it was hard to breathe, and I have to fight for every inhalation.

"Well this is interesting, "he said intrigued.

"What's interesting," I asked frozen, as my heartbeat skidded.

He walked up to me, closed the space between us, and cupped my face. His fingers brushed the corner of my mouth. His smile was so bright than the carnival light.

"George."

"Yes?" His breath went ragged.

"I just suppose… just tonight…"

He leaned down as if to hear me better, but our lips met. They were warm and soft as I parted my mine own. I placed my hands on the sides of his face. As our bodies pressed together heatedly, breathing heavily as our lips pressed together.

Maybe I was pressing too hard as I tasted more of our shared breath, I felt a thud. I had caught him off balance and landed straight into the grass on top of him.

"Oh shit, are you alright?" I asked, leaning over him. He only chuckled at my concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine," he said.

He traced the bottom of my lip with his thumb. He then drew me in and his kisses latched unto my own. They were drawing something out of me as I traced my fingers up to his hair. He then aimed for my exposed neck as he attaches his lips to my skin. I gasp feeling the wetness of his lips and the warmth of his breath. I could feel him smile.

Suddenly, he held me by the waist and yanks me against him. He then turned me over to lie on top of me. I whimpered, unable to think. He came down heavy, his hips hard against mine. He breathed heavily on my face. With all of his body holding onto me, making any movement nearly impossible.

He hovered over me as I stared into his sky-blue eyes filled with lust. I could feel his hands on my waist chasing to the hem of my shirt. He bends his head to kiss me. I melt into him as his fingers tangled into my blouse. My mouth opens to his, and our tongues meet for the briefest instance before he pulls away.

I stayed there laying in the grass staring into the sky, hearing his thick breath. I felt dizzy. Yet, a bit confused as to why he had stopped. Maybe this was too much, or maybe our first time in the middle of an open field was a bit too wild.

"I think we should go back," I heard him, manage to say. I turned to see his face. His eyes shimmered in the smallest of light. They were so bright, I could tell. Maybe if I pushed, we would fumble back in the way we were and take off one another's clothes, on this grass, on this dark night. But I didn't push.

"Yeah, sure," I said as I sat up and stood up brushing off any loose grass, as walked down the hill. I could hear him trailing behind me, I guess he was wondering if he had made the right choice or not. Back in the crowd, I thought I had enough rides and fun.

"Ferris wheel," he mumbled questioningly. I see how nervous he was.

"I just thought… we got off one," I asked. His whole face lit up upon hearing my answer and that made my night. "I'm tired," I said as I walked right into his chest, smelling his scent. I could feel him tense and relax all at once as he embraced me.

"Let's call it a night," I shake my head in acknowledgment.

He drove us home, but before I could slide in he asked me if I enjoyed tonight.

"Yes," I said as turned to get a taste of his lips one more, before saying our goodnights.

For the remainder of the night, I stared at the ceiling thinking of our rollercoaster ride. I lay there struggling to free myself from the oppressing heat I was feeling. I couldn't help but wonder if I had pushed what would have happened. Finally, the discomfort had become too much. I could hear Jada, 'why did you run away?' I push and pull trying to get up but at first, there was no movement. I breathe heavily and gasp for more of the cool air circling me, as I got up to the bathroom.
