You betrayed me

Mrs. Cooper could not think straight anymore. The journey had been long enough but it was the least of her concerns. She leaned towards the window, her hand on the chin and observed the green and leafy trees along the streets. It had not changed. Not one bit. Not after the many years of being away. The suburbs were fresh and for a while she reminisced the happy times between her and Allan.

They were so in love that they had made Crown town their home. The promises they had made to each other was as fresh as the air in the town. She hated herself. She despised the thought of him yet even in that moment, she would do the same thing over and over again - to love Allan.

Was she stupid? Was it her fault that things turned out the way they did? She heaved a sigh and decided to close her eyes for a moment. She had to focus, to know how well to handle the matter at hand. Allan's return had weighed on her and she had to confirm. To know what happened.

She needed the reassurance that maybe, just maybe she was dreaming. She had that tiny hope although seamless that she was still safe from him. Being hurt over and over again slipped a knife through her and the wound was now sore. It was hurting all over again.

"Ma'am, where are we going first?" The driver asked and that's when Shannon noticed that they were already in the town.

"Let's head to the Hunt house first. We'll pass by Sister Lucy later," she said going back to her position.

"Okay ma'am," he answered turning left on the road.

'Huuuh... ma'am, shouldn't we call the young master to tell him where you are. He maybe worried sick about you," the driver knew Sebastian well and it would not be long until he started calling.

"It's okay Thomas. That's why I decided to take the car instead of the plane. I'll try to explain to him when am back. Let's just hurry," she was tired. Her heart was tired.

They headed into a road that looked abandoned. Grass had grown to the height of a three year old but they still managed to pass through with the car. They finally reached to a two-storey house. The house seemed of the ancient times with the redness of the stones and roof tiles that accentuated the beauty it may have had during that time. Grass had grown taller but there was still a path. The path she grew passing every morning and night. The path that led to the door. She placed her hand into her pocket and brought out the key. She looked at the door. It was not rusty. She suddenly felt the urge to look through the window but there was no one. She was no longer there. She scribbled the key into the lock anxiety rushing through her.

"I will not let you escape. Not when he's back!" She said through clenched teeth, a line drawing on her forehead. When the door unlocked, she ran into the house her eyes gazing through every corner. Every year she would find her in the same spot holding her doll socked with tears of her usual cries but this time she wasn't. She was nowhere to be seen. She was alarmed. She clenched her fist while standing in the middle of the house.

"How could she manage to escape?" She asked no one in particular but her anger was quite visible.

She looked at the stairs wondering if she had decided to go to that spot. The spot that she had sworn not to ever step on. The spot she had threatened her against. She was about to climb up her steps slow, not in care but fear, when she heard the fiddling of the door knob. She looked back and saw her trying to open the door. It was a good thing the door would automatically lock after one got in otherwise, she would have already run off.

"Where do you think you're going? Come back here!" She ran to her and grabbed her hair throwing her down. The woman's hair looked unkempt and her smell from not taking a bath for years made the house stink. Her face looked pale and her eyes sank deep into their sockets. Her cheeks had reddened from the constant biting of the mosquitoes. She clutched her doll and started sobbing again. Her tears were no longer visible as they had made a line through her face and one could mistake for a scar.

Shannon stared at her disgust on her face. She took out a sanitizer and sprayed on her hands. She searched through her bag for gloves and wore them hating the stinking smell of the room. She bent on one knee beside the woman and drew one side of her hair behind her ear so she could see her face.

"How have you been, Silvia? You missed me?" She asked mockingly as she stroke her hair. Silvia only looked at her in fear her eyes hovering only to her doll. She did not dare to look up.

"You know what Silvia, you amaze me. You've been here for years yet nobody has come looking for you. No posters or news has been put up to announce your disappearance. How worthless can you be?" She stopped stroking her hair abruptly as if itched and stood up.

"You should have listened to me years ago. Then we would not be caught up in this situation. I would not have been forced to do this," she shouted stamping one feet. Silvia cringed in fear and pushed herself to a corner closing her eyes. "Maybe, just maybe, you would not have lost your children," she continued a fierce rage piercing through her words.

She walked towards the door but stood for a moment. She looked at how she was trembling but could not allow herself to feel any tinge of pity or sadness. She deserved it. She walked towards the door but suddenly, she spoke.

"Shannon please, I'll do whatever you ask of me. Let me out please!" She pleaded crawling to her feet.

Shannon kicked her face with her legs and moved back from where she bent.

"You should have thought of that before doing that. I begged you before. I pleaded for your understanding but what did you do? You went back on your word." She hastened towards the door, opened it and locked it when she was outside.

Silvia kept knocking the door from inside but she did not care a tad bit about her. She took off the gloves and stuck them into a paper bag in her handbag and later stuffed them in one of the pockets of the bag. She hastened out of the compound and heaved a sigh when he reached at the car.

She looked back at the house as memories of her and Silvia rushed through her. The friendship they had before was unbreakable - at least that's what she thought. They did everything together and had promised to be there for each other forever until Silvia broke the trust they had built in each other.

"You can't blame me Silvia. I was never in the wrong. You betrayed me. You betrayed my trust. You are lucky you still breathing," she said in a low tone as she opened the door to get in.

"Let's head to St. Mark, Thomas," she uttered closing her eyes to take in everything. To try and forget the pain. How could she? She would never allow herself to be taken down by it. It was their time to suffer.
