SO IT BEGINS.

CHAPTER 5: SO IT BEGINS.

As Elizabeth took her bath, her thoughts ran wild. Her expressions facially reflected the turmoil within her. She just couldn't make out what Trevor would want to tell her. 'What could he possibly want to tell me?' She pondered, with her eyes squinting as she looked into the mirror.

In as much as she wondered what Trevor had to tell, she wasn't going to skip her regular skin care routine. Elizabeth was indeed beautiful. Trevor couldn't have been attracted to anything less. Her long blonde hair flowed across her shoulders, her green eyes were seductive, and her curvy athletic build was the craving of men who beheld her.

Beyond the physical qualities she was endowed with, she also had a beautiful soul. Trevor fell head over hills in love with her when they first met 10 years ago, at a flea market in New York. They dated for 7 months before he popped the big question. He had no doubt that their's would be a happily ever after. But how wrong he was.

His once serene home blossoming in tranquility and love, turned into a war zone. His in-laws, Mr and Mrs Smith, made matters even worse, instigating his wife against him, just because he had lost his job, and couldn't provide for his household as he used to. Trevor and Elizabeth gradually drifted apart. They were strangers living under the same roof.

Finishing up with her skin care routine, Elizabeth eagerly rushed downstairs to the living room, where Trevor was. "So what was it you wanted to tell me?" Elizabeth eagerly said even before getting seated in a couch beside the three seater couch where Trevor sat.

"Mr Bob called me earlier today when you left the house, and asked me for some help. He was asked to supervise a project at a friend's construction site outside town, in Manhattan. But he lacks the requisite skills for such, so he asked me to come do the job for him, and we'll split whatever is paid in half, both of us sharing it equally." Trevor lied with a straight face.

"Alright." Elizabeth nodded. "How long will you be gone?" She asked, not because she would miss him, but because she needed to know how many days of freedom she would have to openly express her infidelity.

"Three to five days at most. Well, it depends on the progress of the work anyway. But it should take five days at the most." Trevor lied further.

"Alright. As far it fetches us money, am okay with it." Elizabeth tried sounding supportive, but she was far from supportive. Within her, her joy knew no bounds. 'Finally, freedom.' She rejoiced inwardly.

"Do you need help packing up some stuff you need?" Elizabeth asked, putting up the 'supportive wife act'.

It made Trevor wonder, 'How is she all of a sudden so supportive? Does she really want me away from the house?' This time, he didn't shrug off the thought. He took note of it. His suspicions were being confirmed.

"Maybe tomorrow. There'll be no need packing my stuff tonight." He smiled, masking what preoccupied his mind. "So how's the family of aunt Sally? How are they coping?" Trevor tried striking up a conversation.

"They're okay. They'll survive." Elizabeth replied, trying to flow along.

"They sure will." Trevor affirmed.

"I need to get some rest." Elizabeth said, yawning exhaustedly as she stretched out her hands. But that was all fake. She just needed a polite excuse to leave the presence of Trevor.

"Alright Liz. Have a good night sleep. I'll be here to catch the replay of yesterday's game." Trevor replied, smilingly.

"Alright." Elizabeth replied, as she dashed briefly into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge, to keep herself hydrated through the night.

Watching her go upstairs to the bedroom, Trevor went into the kitchen and helped himself to the remaining bottle of beer he left the previous day, and tuned to the sports channel to catch up with game he missed yesterday, just as he told Elizabeth.

"So it begins." Trevor sighed in relief, sitting in his three seater couch, as he gulped down his beer. Sounds from the game being watched filled the living room, but Trevor wasn't unreasonable to set the volume loud enough to disturb Elizabeth.

He didn't start the game from the beginning, so after forty minutes, the game was over. He stealthily went upstairs, took his bath, and joined Elizabeth in bed, sliding into the duvet. He laid in bed facing up looking at the ceiling. Elizabeth faced the other side.

'Was she asleep?' Trevor wondered, slowly drifting off to sleep.

Elizabeth woke up the next morning to see Trevor already packing up his stuff into a shuttle bag. "You're up already?" Elizabeth asked yawning, covering her mouth with her right hand, stretching out the other.

"Yeah. We need to catch the bus. It's scheduled for 7:45 am. I am just left with an hour to meet up with Mr Bob." Trevor became more confident at lying. But specifically, lying to Elizabeth, for what he had purposed at heart.

Elizabeth got up from the bed, pulling aside the thick duvet, and went to the bathroom to wash her face, in an attempt to clear the sleepiness that still had a hold on her. Whatever she did the previous day, really made her exhausted. But there was little to wonder.

Elizabeth went helped out, but not out of the goodness of her heart. But she helped anyway.

"Thanks honey." Trevor kissed her in appreciation.

"Let me fix you something to eat, while you shower." Elizabeth offered to make Trevor a simple breakfast. This was sort of his last supper, or breakfast as the case was.

She went downstairs to the kitchen, and got busy, while Trevor took his bath. Finishing up from the bathroom and getting dressed, he headed downstairs with his shuttle bag in his right hand.

"Wow. This looks yummy." Trevor praised Elizabeth for the simple bread toast and scrambled eggs she quickly prepared. As Trevor sat down to eat, Elizabeth poured him a glass of tropical juice.

"Thank you honey." Trevor momentarily felt like a king, as he dined.

"Here, have a bite." Trevor offered Elizabeth his bread toast. "Thank you. I'm good." She humbly declined, cracking up a smile. But it was so unauthentic.

Quickly finishing up the meal, he hurriedly grabbed his bag and headed for the door, but halted. "Oh! Before I forget." Trevor gave Elizabeth a kiss. She wasn't expecting it, but she kissed him back.

He walked out the door, got down to the road and stopped a taxi. Before he got in, he waved Elizabeth goodbye. She waved back smiling as the vehicle drove off.

Closing the front door, she leaned against the door with her head facing up and eyes closed, she sighed. Opening her eyes, she screamed out for joy, jumping like a child who had received a surprise gift.

Immediately, Elizabeth got her phone and excitedly called the number that Trevor had seen calling her. "Hey babe. Guess what? Trevor is out of town and won't be coming back in at least three days? So you know what that means right? We can stay here all day, without worrying about him."

"That's a good development. No more cat and mouse games for a couple of days at least." The person at the other end of the phone was excited.

"But you can't come over now. I'll need to confirm he's arrived at his destination. So that we can be rest assured that we are home free." Elizabeth said sounding a bit serious.

"Alright. Let me know when you're sure he's out of town. Can't wait to come over." The person on the other phone replied, in anticipation of a positive outcome.

"Will do. See ya." Elizabeth concluded. She let herself fall on the three seater couch like one without a care in the world, smiling wide. It was obvious that this smile, was genuine.

"On his way to the bus station, he took a detour arriving at Paul's house.

"Uncle Trevor!" Michelle ran and hugged Trevor as Paul opened the door after hearing the door bell ring.

"Hey sweetie. How are you?" Trevor excitedly picked her up.

"I'm fine uncle Trevor. I missed you." Michelle said snuggling in Trevor's arms.

"I missed you too Michelle." Trevor said, walking into the house taking a seat in the living room.

Trevor greeted Paul's wife. "Thank you for agreeing to let me stay here, until this sting operation is over."

"Alright. Let me take you to the guest room." Paul took Trevor there as he got settled in. He returned to the living meeting Paul seated there.

"You couldn't make it to work today?" Trevor enquired as he sat down in a couch.

"I called in sick yesterday, so as to be here when you arrived, and see how things goes." Paul replied.

"So it begins huh? Paul said, as though he read Trevor's mind.

"So it begins." Trevor retorted.
