Monster Core

Lock's eyes shone with great excitement.

The first thing that came to his mind was to use the of the system.

In his previous life, Lock had actually trained animals secretly. Most of them were small birds that had visited his veranda in the royal palace. The witnesses who could see him call birds at his will were shocked and started to praise him.

It was like he could communicated with animals. That was only one of his rumored precious abilities. And in fact, there was some truth on them.

Once he petted a animals, it was like their souls was connected to each other, and he could understand the emotions of the birds, also seeing their stats and improving them.

Lock was enthusiastic.

Although he had only tried his ability on animals, he had not the slightest doubt that he could make monsters as his pets too!

If he did that here, he would be able to become someone really special in a much faster time!

Seeing the little red hairy creature hiding inside the dead hobgoblin's mind, looking at his face with red warm eyes, Lock ordered the system at will and started his great plan.

Level: 2

Health: 15/15

Mana: 40/40

Strength: 2

Agility: 4

Vitality: 9

Intelligence: 1

Dexterity: 1

'Why not? Of course, I say yes!'

As soon as Lock answered yes, the little fiery creature in the hobgoblin's mind moved its head, and got alarmed. It was like an invisible force was coming at him, and before it could even fight back, something warm embraced his body. It was an unescapable pressure at first that felt like something was sealing, but after a few seconds of him giving up on resisting any further.

A glow of red sparkling light glittered on his tail, and his fur had gotten smoother and brighter. The Soul Firefox jumped in joy, as he felt the most comfortable he had ever been in its whole life.

After that, it immediately started to disappear in a glowing red, and vanish from the hobgoblin's body. Immediately after, Lock felt another presence in his mind, and there just as soon as he thought of the Soul Firefox, it's image appeared while it jumped joy like a little child.

Lock smiled, and felt proud and happy how he just gained a powerful cute ally.

<100 experience points will be rewarded.>

Just as the system was about to finish relaying the messages, Lock heard a cute boy voice.

'Bark.' (Name?)

Of course, Lock was not new to this. As soon as he made animals his pet, the most usual reaction was they would instantly ask for a name. Name was always important to them for some reason.

As a result, he had named more than ten birds when he was still a prince. He had named them names that suited their appearances, or abilities, but it was his first time making a soul firefox his pet.

Surely, he needed time to give it a cool name at least.

'Ember? Soul? Hm, I name you Red.' Lock said, referring it to the crimson eyes, and the sparkling red fur of the cute creature.

'Bark?' (Red?)

The soul firefox quieted for a moment, and nodded, before it turned its eyes away from Lock.

'Oh?' Lock couldn't help but smile. His first pet had quite the character.

While he was busy looking at it, his thought process was disrupted by the party of mercenaries who were now checking on the dead body of the hobgoblin, totally unaware that an another creature was actually controlling it all the time.

"Hey, you finished it. Just get its monster core. You don't need to be shy all this time." Orean said, patting Lock's back in a strong friendly manner.

As Lock looked at them, he couldn't help but laugh.

"Hahahaha. That's right. I pretty much dealt with it. But..."

"But?"

The party was confused and puzzled.

Lock was looking at the corpse of the dungeon boss, and asked.

"How do you get a monster core? I never did it so, I have no idea."

The party laughed at him. The boy was just mysterious at this point. He was so good at fighting, and was even stunned that he suddenly went stronger, meaning he was hiding his abilities, and was so cocky in saying he would get them a hundred monster cores, but he doesn't even know how to get a monster core?

The party taught him how to get one, and left.

A few seconds later, Lock finished running his hands in the inside of the hobgoblin and when he reached its heart, he felt a smooth stone?

He grabbed the thing inside, and revealed a green orb - with the size of a chicken egg. It was glowing faintly, and anyone could see it was not a normal stone.

"It's a monster core!" Lock said.

As soon as Lock touched it, the system's voice sounded. At the same time, the corpse of the hobgoblin started to turn to particles of light.

Lock was happy. It was his first time seeing a monster core, but right now, the system was asking him something he could not understand.
