Chapter 87

Claire tilted her face, looking directly in his eyes, not sure how to react to his compliment, she couldn't express what she was feeling right now, as her cheeks turned a shade of pink, Jason was more flustered than her, he was thankful that they were sitting in a theatre, and Claire wasn't able to see him properly.

Jason turned his eyes away from her and continued watching the movie, Claire smiled because she understood that he was shy, after all he had never given someone else a compliment, it was the first time he gave a compliment beside his grandma.

"The movie was good." Claire told him as they exited the theatre, "Huh, good, it was one of the most boring movies I have ever watched!" Jason replied disappointed, "Come on, it wasn't that bad,"

Jason just gave her a disapproving look, without saying anything, as they walked out, it was already evening, "Wait here, I'll get the car."

Jason was happy that even though a lot of people know him in the country, he was glad that he kept his people surrounded in the theatre so they won't bother them, if they did, he wouldn't been able to have a peaceful day with her.

Claire nodded as Jason left to get the car, on his way he saw someone waiting near his car, the woman's back was facing him, and it felt like she was waiting for someone.

"Mam, could you please move." Jason requested, hearing his voice the woman turned towards him, he was looking at her for a second feeling that he had seen her before.

"Jason, I was waiting for you!" The woman replied giving him a creepy smile.

"You know me?" Jason was perplexed by the weird smile that she was giving him, she had short hair, and looked like she was in her fifties.

"Off course how can I not know my daughter's boyfriend."

Jason's mind went blank for a second, he didn't know, who she was referring to, suddenly he remembered where he had seen her.

She was Claire's mother, now that he looked closely, he could say Claire resembled her a lot, he had seen her picture when he was checking Claire's profile, "What are you doing here?" Jason questioned in a firm tone.

"Why don't we meet and talk some other time?" She suggested.

She turned her gaze towards someone and left from there in a hurry, Jason kept calling her, but she didn't turn around and left from there in a hurry.

"Jason, why are you standing here? I was waiting for you!" Claire tapped his shoulder, he looked like he was in a deep thought.

"Huh... sorry, come we should leave." He opened the door for her, still glancing at the way the woman disappeared.

The car ride back to Claire's apartment was something she didn't expect, it was completely silent, Jason was lost in his thoughts, first Claire tried to start a conversation, but it ended as soon as it start.

"Jason, did I do something?" Claire couldn't stop thinking what suddenly went wrong.

"No, not at all, why would you think that?" Jason gazed at her, she was looking visibly upset.

He understood that he was the reason behind it, "I'm sorry to make you feel that way!" Jason realized that since he had met her, he was frequently apologizing a lot, not that he had a problem with it, but it only shocked him that he didn't mind saying sorry to her.

"It's not that, you are just lost in your thoughts since we left the theatre," Claire gazed at him, "Did something happen at the company?"

Jason muttered a no, he was sure telling her about her mother, would either freak her out, or make her angry.

"It's nothing, I just.... forget it," Jason knew asking her indirectly was the only way to know if he should tell her about that woman or not.

"What? Tell me what it is?" Claire was getting impatient.

"I don't want to offend you." He said, "You won't,"

Jason looked at her and said, "Can I ask you about what happened to your mother?"

Claire went quite for a second, she didn't expect that he would ask her this.

"But I thought you already knew everything."

Claire was right, Jason already knew everything about what happened in their family, but Jason wanted to hear what she thought about her mom, if she still doesn't have a problem with her then he would tell her about seeing her today.

But if Claire has some unsettling feeling for the woman, then he had to do something about her mother.

"I just know that she left, nothing more." Jason replied, "If you know that she left, what else is left for you to know?" Claire asked in a firm tone.

Jason felt that she didn't want to talk about this, and it was clear she didn't like her mother, "I'm just asking, what if she comes back to meet you?"

Claire gritted her teeth for the first time she was feeling this angry while talking to Jason, she just wanted to stop talking about her, "The woman who left me when I was just a kid, what makes you think that she will come back?"

After Jason heard Claire saying that, both of them were silent, soon they reached Claire's apartment, but she didn't leave, both of them were sitting quietly.

"Thanks for today it was really fun." Claire broke the silence, "Yeah, it was." Jason could tell she was upset.

"Jason, I know you didn't have to ask me to know about my life, because you have your own way about finding out everything...." Claire took a deep breath, "I appreciate that you asked me, but please after this never talk about her, I just don't like to talk about her!"

Saying that Claire opened the car door and left, without turning to him, Jason knew he messed up.

He was sure if Claire's mother met him when he was with her, then she might be following Claire.

Which made him angry, he knew he had to meet her even if, he had to lie to Claire.
