Lira's POV.
It would appear that Lady Vina is having a truly wonderful time talking about Sir Selk with his teammates. Well, I should have known this would happen. She would always talk my ear off when it comes to the topic of Sir Selk. And I can kind off see now why Lady Vina fell for Sir Selk, given that he has cooked wyvern steak for all nine of us. The meat was cooked to medium rare perfection and the sauce is so divine in it's taste. Any woman would fall for a man that can cook like this. To bad that said man is the dull Sir Selk.
Sure, Sir Selk is the true hero of the Kingdom. However, he has no asperations towards anything greater than being a clinic chain franchise owner. A person with powers like his should be running a country, not playing doctor. I wish Lady Vina would realize this fact soon before Sir Selk either fall for my Lady and lead her into a life of mediocracy, or lead her on for years and she passes beyond society's ideal marrying age.
Selk: "I hope you all like the food. By the way, Vina, where's Sarah and Gilbert? I thought they would be here with us."
Vina: "Ah, yes. Sarah had to accompany Gilbert in the infirmary. It would appear that he almost fainted and was rushed there. Poor Sarah had to miss both your stellar performance and your even more stellar steaks. What a crying shame."
Selk: "You seem too giddy after saying that. Is Sarah really your best friend? Anyway, keep eating, I have more steaks here."
Alfred: "It's still hard to believe that the person that saved Lady Vina is Selk. Flesh mage magic is something else, huh!"
The handsome Sir Alfred said as he question the reality of Sir Selk's power like I do internally.
Selk: "I was just lucky I already mastered the Lightning Wasp Boots at that time."
Sir Bismart then interjected with a question for Sir Selk.
Bismart: "Selk, how are you able to make your flesh weapons so quickly? I have to channel my mana to my sword for at least 3 seconds before I could create my magic attack, but your flesh creations doesn't even take a second to make."
Selk: "Well, I've been training my magic since I was five, and let's just say I found a way to memorize the spell crafting to the extent that I can just think of the weapon I want to create and It just gets constructed automatically. You just need to try and memorize the way you cast your magic and your body will do the rest."
Sir Selk said with his back turn to us as he prepares the next batch of steaks.
Sakanari: "So, since you can make weapons from the monsters you've touched, can't you just construct the monsters themselves? Sounds like that would be useful in a combat scenario."
I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but I saw Sir Selk's shoulders stiffen up from Ms. Sakanari's question like he was a person caught performing a criminal act. Before Sir Selk could answer however, Ms. Abriela gave one for him.
Abriela: "That's impossible, Sakanari. Never mind the amount of mana it will cost to just re-create a monster's full body, but you'll also have to create a perfect soul crystal that will power it and be a stand in for a soul. Not even a thousand mages combined can create a perfect soul crystal. Even Earth mages just buy the soul crystals extracted from monster corpses and just make a golem's shell body that will be powered by it. Creating life from nothing is impossible after all, right, Selk?"
Selk: "...Well, that is the popular theory. Many mages have tried and failed to create true life with their own hands, and none of them succeeded."
Sir Selk said in a somber tone, almost like he was speaking from experience. Then, a small voice chimed in and asked her own question.
Allice: "S-so, if you're saying that making you're own monster is impossible, what will happen if someone was able to do it? Will that person be in trouble?"
Ms. Allice said with a worried look on her face.
Vina: "Well, it would depend on the situation. If someone like that were to exist, he or she would be a very valuable asset for the kingdom he or she is in. However, that person will be targeted by multiple parties who will try to either capture them for their own benefit, or kill them to prevent them from using abilities that are even beyond the powers of the Gods."
Lady Vina's words seem to have troubled Ms. Allice. Her complexion turned a little pale from this revelation as she looked at the back of Sir Selk.
My mother taught me well in the art of reading a person. She said that in order to protect your employer, an attendant must be calm, collected, and able to read people who will either do harm or exploit them in any way. By the way Ms. Allice is acting, she is hiding a secret that she doesn't want found out. Could it really be that Sir Selk has a power even the God's cannot match?
Twenty minutes after the talks of monster creation, everyone left for the night since they have classes tomorrow. I talked to Lady Vina about the possibility of Sir Selk having the power to recreate creatures he has touched.
Lira: "Lady Vina, do you think Sir Selk has the power to make his own monsters?"
Vina: " I have no way of knowing that. However, based on the fact that none of the weapons Sir Selk gave us six heroes have deteriorated in anyway only means that they are powered by perfect soul stones. Sir Selk has managed to overcome one of the biggest hurdles a creation mage would face when creating life."
Lady Vina answered me as we walked to our dorm room.
Lira: "S-so, why do you think he never used that power in the war? It's obvious that Ms. Allice has obviously seen Sir Selk use that power, why would he show that power to her and no one else?"
Vina: "Sir Selk probably used that power in transporting Ms. Allice and the Bandits back to her village based on Allice's story. As for the reason why he didn't use those powers at the time of war, only Sir Selk can answer that question. "
Lady Vina said with a somber look on her face. We buried the discussion of Sir Selk's powers as we have a long day tomorrow, and will need to get some sleep. I hope Lady Vina will not get caught up in whatever troubles Sir Selk's abilities might bring.
Selk's POV,
I can't believe how flustered I got over a question I knew someone would ask me eventually. It just goes to show, no matter how many times you try to prepare yourself, it's hard to answer questions you don't want to address.
Allice: "Dr. Selk, I-I was watching your magic earlier just like you asked, and I was only able to see apart of the spell craft you used for your magic circle."
Allice said sheepishly as she helps me wash the dishes in our spacious kitchen. Clearly trying to avoid the topic of monster creation with me.
Selk: "Is that so? Do you want me to show you how I wrote it?"
Allice: "Y-yes please."
We briefly stopped washing the dishes and went to the main room. I Then showed her how I drew my spell craft using my mana. She then asked if she could do the same magic now. It's a good thing that the Brownie race are naturally inclined to use non-attribute magic like flesh magic since they are an off shoot race of elves. The magic circle I taught her was for constructing a goblin's ear. Allice was about to draw the magic circle, but was unable to construct anything from it.
Allice: "W-why isn't anything coming out, Dr. Selk?"
Selk: "Hmm. As I thought, you can't form anything until you have contracted with either any Gods or their familiar spirits."
I explained to the befuddled Allice how the fundamentals of magic works in this world.
Selk: "I'm assuming that none of the magic users in your village told you that you need to be contracted with either a God or a spirit before you can use magic, huh?"
Allice: "Y-yeah. I've asked my Granddad many times to teach me magic, but he said that women are not allowed to use magic in the Brownie race."
Allice said, confirming that the Brownie race is a patriarchy system.
Selk: "Well, since you're my apprentice, it's best that you contract with my God, Lord Gore Traveegal. The only thing you need to do is pray to him, and if he accepts you, you'll be blessed with his powers."
I then taught Allice the prayers for Lord Gore's blessing. Allice knelt and crossed her arms by touching both her shoulders as a sign of worship, and then spoke the prayer.
Allice: "Oh, great Gore Traveegal. Ruler of all things flesh and blood, and bones. Bless me with your magic divine and grant me with your magic of flesh."
Once Allice uttered her prayer, a faint glow covered her body, a sign that she has now gained the blessing of Lord Gore.
Allice: "Wow. T-this light, it's really warm. D-did I do it right?"
Selk: "Yes, Allice. You are now the follower of Lord Gore.
Once Allice received Lord Gore's blessing I had her re-drew her magic circle. She was able to then construct a goblin's ear using her mana.
Allice: "D-Dr. Selk, look, look. I made a goblin ear."
Allice said excitedly while waving the goblin ear she just made. She's the only one I know that can wave something disgusting like a goblin ear and make it look cute. However, as quickly as she made the ear, so too did it disappeared.
Allice: "Wah? D-Dr. Selk, it's gone. The goblin ear is gone! D-did I do something wrong?"
Selk: "No, Allice. That was to be expected. Mana constructs can only manifest for a few seconds unless they are attach to something that constantly emits mana energy. However, you did amazingly for your first try. How do you feel now? Are you tired?"
I consoled Allice and told her that it's normal for the ear she made to disappear. I then asked if she is feeling any fatigue since it's easy to suffer from mana exhaustion from performing non-attribute magic.
Allice: "No. I feel fine, but how can I make my constructs last long like you do?"
Selk: "I'm glad you asked."
I then constructed a creature that will help Allice train indoors while I'm out studying. I call this creature the Perpetual Pupa. I fused an Imperial Caterpillar and a Marsh Dugong to create the most docile and friendliest monster ever. It has the form of a blue and pink colored caterpillar with a head of a dugong. It only consumes milk and is very affectionate. At around two feet and six inches long and eleven inches thick in circumference, it is quite adorable to look at.
Allice: "By the Gods, how adorable. B-but why did you make it, Dr. Selk?"
Selk: "She will be your assistant in training your flesh magic. She is a Perpetual Pupa, but you can call her Ponpon. Everyday, you will have to create a monster body part and fuse it onto Ponpon's body. If the body part doesn't disappear it means you've constructed the perfect body part. Your assignment tomorrow until next week is to construct a set of goblin ears, hands, and eyes and fuse them on Ponpon however you see fit."
I then taught her the magic circle crafting for goblin hands and eyes, and also taught her how to craft flesh fusion magic circles and the magic circle to un-fuse the goblin parts off from Ponpon. I then told her that she needs to do this for four hours everyday to build up not only her memorization of the magic circle, but also build up her body's mana pool. I even left her six mana restoration potion to make sure she doesn't lose too much mana. We then went to sleep and said will pick discuss more magic lessons tomorrow before I go to class.
The morning rays were peeking from our curtains as I woke up. Ponpon was sleeping with Allice in her bed as they snuggled together like a pair of cute pups. I woke them up to get ready for today. Once Allice and I have gotten dressed I gave her my final instructions to feed Ponpon twice a day and for Ponpon to hide under the bed if someone other than me or Allice comes in the room. I then left for class once I'm satisfied that Allice and Ponpon got all my instructions. Before I left however, Allice said the thoughts that worried her.
Allice: "Dr. Selk, what if someone finds out that you can make monsters like Ponpon? Wouldn't you be in trouble?"
Selk: "Don't worry about that, Allice. I'll be fine as long as Ponpon hides properly. I made her to have amazing hiding skills, so it shouldn't be a problem."
I said reassuringly to Allice as I pat both her and Ponpon's heads. I then left them to go to my class, Gilbert, Vina, Lira, and Sarah already waiting for me at the Dorm's lobby. The five of us made small talk as we made our way to class while On lookers gawked at us. Once in the class room, I finally saw my five new friends sitting in our pre-assigned seats, an empty area waiting for my right beside Abriela.
Abriela: "I-it looks like we will be seat mates, Selk. P-please take care of me."
Abriela said as she bowed to me, being unnecessarily polite for some reason. Before I could take my seat though, Vina stepped in and kept me from doing so.
Vina: "My apologies, but Sir Selk will be seated next to us, being he is a part of our platoon back in the war."
The rest of the class who doesn't know of my previous relations with the heroes and the war had audible reactions to what Vina said. However, Abriela didn't back down and stood up to meet Vina's gaze.
Abriela: "The war is over now, and Selk is the leader of our team. If he is sitting with anyone, it will be with us, his new teammates."
The tension is so palpable within the class room from Abriela and Vina's confrontation as the rest of the class, including my other teammates were gulping down their saliva. Just when I was about to intervene, someone walked in the class and gave out a stern warning.
"Miss Rockforth, please take your seat. There will be no seat changes as far as I'm concerned. That goes for everyone."
An petite elf with long blonde hair said in an authoritative manner. It would appear that a high Elf will be our home room teacher.
"My name is Levizla. I'm a high elf from the City of Lightfall within the Elvin continent. I will be your home room teacher for this semester. Today, we will begin the class with self introductions. Let's start with you, Mr. Selcurial Malferd Shroudder."
The Elvin girl said as she addressed everyone in class. However, she looked at me particularly as she spoke to the class. By the way she looks at me, something within me is screaming danger for some reason.
