Chapter 5 - State of the Kingdom

After the minor incident there, Sebas finally served the food that was delivered to the dining room immediately. He served everything himself, so he probably cooked everything himself.

I asked a bit, where did the royal chef go? But maybe Sebas did everything himself because he didn't want anyone to know about my resurrection.

Good Job, Sebas!!

It's not much, you could say enough. But I'll admit, it's really good.

But unfortunately, the atmosphere there was awkward, so Shiro and I ate in silence.

Putting that aside, I was now outside the castle, in the direction of the city.

It's my first time seeing the outside world in this world, but it's really amazing!

I guess because it's the Demon Lord's land, so it's a purple land with eternal darkness and an invisible sun. But after I looked outside, this was an ordinary world, without any purple earth or other horrible things!

The sun was still shining in the sky, and the water was clear.

The castle I was in earlier was built by the sea, so it might be difficult to attack. In addition, there is a large moat that separates the castle from the residents' houses.

However, the wind that blew was hot, making my first impression rather bad. Apart from that, I also saw a road made up of rock, which made me wonder what was going on.

And I'm a little curious about the yellow that stretches as far as my eye can see outside the city. I saw it wrong, right?

Well, putting that thought aside…. I've changed into normal clothes, so it's easy for us to get out of the castle.

After all, the castle is also empty. Even though it wasn't completely empty, it was quiet. There were only a few guards, and it seemed that when we came out, it didn't carry any suspicion.

"Sebas, take us to the city library." I said to Sebas who escorted us. He just nodded, probably keeping our identities from being known to anyone.

On the street, I watched what people were doing.

And most importantly, they looked like they were in grief. Well, although it might be because they are all demonic and their expressions are always like this, but this one is different.

"This is the place, Your Majesty." whispered Sebas quietly.

I turned towards Shiro.

This is where I want to use Shiro and her Cheat abilities. However, I have a lot of work to do. It would be nice if I could leave one of them to someone else.

"Alright, Shiro. I want you to study and read as many books as you can. Mainly about the surrounding country, the state of nature, and some about this country. Can I ask you to do it?"

I grabbed Shiro's shoulder, commanding her.

"Understood, Master. I'll try to be as useful as I can be." she answered with shining eyes.

Sebas looked at it a little confused, but I let it go.

I intend to make Shiro my walking encyclopedia. Hmmm, how should I call it. She will be Miss Google? I have to know the state of the kingdom firsthand, but I also have to have outside knowledge!

"Alright, Sebas. Take me to the fields in this town." my orders again.

Although confused, he nodded and led me to the field.

On the way, it seemed that Sebas had purposely crossed the main streets so that I wouldn't get bored. I don't mind either, because with some of this crowd, I can see the state of this country.

And there I heard some people's conversations. There are a few that I find interesting.

"What do you think? Said the Demon Lords have started to be resurrected, you know!"

"Really? So the war will start again, huh? How? Want to get out of this country?"

"Hmm right. Demon King Astaroth is the weakest Demon Lord. We might run out of food again. That's still a good possibility. If it's worse, we'll be forced into a war and then lose. We'll be slaves."

"You're right. Maybe it's our destiny, Devils, to be like this. Can't we live in peace?"

I heard an interesting conversation here.

It was a conversation between two dogmen, or should I say kobolds? Well, basically they have critical thinking here.

So it's clear now, why the residents look unwell.

They worry about war.

Obviously war is not a good thing. It was something that could easily take away lives and treasures. And I thought, is it that easy to fly the war flag?

You know, there's a lot to take care of during a war! Accommodation, weapons and soldiers! In addition, we must keep the soldiers' mentality high, preventing them from escaping from their respective positions!

Well, war does look easy, but there's a lot of risk behind it.

It would be good to win, but we are in a weak position which on record always loses! Technically, there is no hope if this country is involved in a war.

No, there are even some conditions, which make us lose even if we win!

Besides, after I noticed, the economy in this city is also very weak. Even though this city is the capital that is close to the castle, but the economy is not running properly, and seems to be running slowly.

This kingdom is really bad.

"We have arrived, Your Majesty." Sebas' words broke my reverie.

I've just been silent for a while, we've arrived. Well, maybe it's because I'm daydreaming, so the trip feels fast?

"Humm. Good. Can I ask you to accompany Shiro and help her with her studies? She might be in trouble."

"But, what about Your Majesty?!" he sounded really worried.

"Don't worry. No one will be able to touch me. We will meet again at the "Lantern" restaurant at three o'clock. Until then do my bidding to help Shiro." I said firmly.

Hmmm. Obviously no one dared to touch me. After all, I have the skill [Which Devils are afraid of]....

"D-Understood, your highness." although confused, Sebas still left me.

Now I'm alone again.

It was definitely a strange sight for a 3-year-old child alone in the middle of a field, but I was lucky no one noticed.

"But, what plant is this?"

The field was quite full of tall plants and was starting to turn yellow. It was tall enough to cover my body.

I took one fruit.

It was similar to corn, but seemed drier. I don't know what it's like to eat it.

"It's not an edible plant, is it?"

No, I didn't eat it! It's just that, just looking at the fruit has eliminated my appetite. And from the texture, it is more suitable for animal feed!

It might be a bit harsh when I say that, but it's the truth.

I couldn't help but laugh dryly...

"Besides, the soil is also destroyed, isn't it. Most of the time here there is only solid land and rocky sand. There are no nutrients that can be absorbed by plants. Water also cannot enter the soil and is immediately thrown into the sea."

"This is really bad."
