Moses Saved by the Egyptian Princess

During the first period Moses lived in Egypt, where his parents, Helam and Jochebed, both from the tribe of Levi, were devout servants of the Lord. Their three children, one a prophetess, one a high priest, and one Moses, were born as Moses.

When I was born as Moses, my sister Miriam was ten or eleven years old and my brother Aaron was only three years old. Pharaoh ordered the midwife to kill the male child of the Israelites if he was born; but the midwife did not dare to do so because of the fear of God. Then Pharaoh gave an edict that every boy born to the Israelites must be thrown into the river. This decree had not been given at the birth of my brother Aaron, but it was given when I was born as Moses. When Moses' parents saw that I was handsome, they hid me quietly, in spite of Pharaoh's command, until I was three months old and could not be hidden any longer. For a three-month-old child cries loudly and can easily be heard. I was in danger of being thrown into the Nile, and if my parents had not thrown me into the river, I feared for their lives and for the lives of my neighbours. But my family could not bear the thought of leaving me in the river to drown in the water. They put me inside the box and, unbeknownst to anyone, secretly placed it in the reeds by the river where the Pharaoh's daughter used to swim; my parents told my sister to watch over me from a distance to see what would happen to me if I was thrown into the river. At that time, no one dared to save the boy who had raised the Hebrews, for that would have been a violation of Pharaoh's royal decree. But God arranged for Pharaoh's daughter, and after I had been thrown into the river, the Egyptian princess came to the river to bathe, and when she saw a chest in the reeds, she sent her maid to fetch it. When Pharaoh's daughter opened the chest, she saw the child crying and felt compassion, so she decided to save me and take me to the Egyptian palace to raise me.
