76. Next To Your Heartbeat Where I Should Be

Thanks for the reviews on the last chapter. I know it took me a little longer to update this time, but I really researched this chapter and I hope that you guys like the outcome. It touches on faith so I don't know if I need to give a trigger warning for that or not. But I hope that you like the chapter.

"Somebody help my baby," Kim cried out as they neared the swinging doors to the ER. A young nurse came into view and moved quickly to Kim's side, wordlessly taking the infant from her arms.

"What happened to him?" the nurse asked, quickly checking over Jackson's body.

"I don't know what's wrong with him. He was fine and then he just went limp. Please help him" Kim cried, reaching out to take Jackson's hand.

"You'll have to stay here Ma'am," another nurse grabbed her arm. "We're going to help your baby but you need to stay out here." Kim choked back a sob and fell backwards into Adam's arms as she watched Jackson's limp body move through the doors.

000000000000000000

Kim fidgeted nervously in the padded chair as she held Jackson's hand tightly. Jackson's eyes were closed and his breath was soft and shallow. He was asleep. Kim kissed him gently before rising to her feet to find the doctor.

"Can you stay with him?" Burgess asked as she looked at Erin who was gently running her fingers across her baby bump.

"Absolutely" Erin nodded as she moved her chair closer to Jackson's bed.

They'd been taking turns staying with Kim who refused to leave Jackson's side ever since he'd been admitted to the hospital. Jackson was a lot sicker than once originally thought, the problems with his heart were coming from issues with his immune system. The hole in his heart only added to the infant's problems.

For now they'd all done a bone marrow test to see if they were a match for Jackson to build his immune system back up so he could have his heart surgery. Everyone but Erin had been tested, but since she was pregnant, it left her ineligible to donate.

"Doctor Robertson," Kim reached out for his arm. "Doctor Robertson, have you found a match yet?" The doctor closed the chart he was reading and sighed, turning to face the tense woman.

"Not yet." Kim's shoulders slumped and she shook her head disappointedly.

"Have you tested all the samples?" The grey haired man nodded wordlessly. "Adam and I were negative?" He nodded again. "We were her best chance," she whispered to herself.

"We can keep trying Kim," the doctor's tone softened.

"Just because we haven't found anything yet doesn't mean we won't. There's always hope."

"I don't know how much energy I have left for disappointments," she looked up at him, sliding down into a chair. "I just want this to be over."

"We all do," he reached out for her hand. "We're not going to stop trying."

"Everyone I know has been tested for a match," she began to shout. "There's nothing left to try."

The doctor hesitated slightly, leaning back beside her.

"What?" she asked, frustratedly. "What are you thinking?"

"There is another thing we can try," he told her, cautiously. "I think we should wait to meet with your husband before we get into it any further."

"Tell me now," she demanded. The doctor sighed again and looked at her seriously.

"Unborn babies are a potential bone marrow match for Jackson." Kim frowned and looked in Jackson's room at Erin who was holding the baby's hand through his hospital crib. "In fact, an unborn baby is potentially the best match we could hope for."

Kim continued to watch him, waiting for further explanation.

"You've taken biology right?" Kim nodded. "Okay well then you know about stem cells?" Kim nodded again.

"A baby has stem cells around the umbilical cord, if we harvest those, they can be donated to Jackson with a good chance of building his immune system up and recovery."

Kim tried not to look too hopeful.

"Why is this the first I'm hearing about it if it's such a miracle cure? What's the downside?" The doctor glanced down as he linked his hands, trying to come up with an answer.

"Essentially," he paused. "It's a risk of loss of pregnancy is extremely high."

Kim's face fell and tears filled her eyes.

"Oh God. I could never ask her to do that. She and her husband have been so good to me and my husband. But this...how can you ask someone to do this for you?"

"Like I said before," the doctor said, restoring hope. "We haven't tried everything yet. We'll continue the search for a donor." Kim nodded sadly, pulling herself up from the chairs.

"Jackson will be awake soon. I should get back in there," she forced a tight lipped smile at the doctor and turned toward her son's room.

Kim walked back into Jackson's room and leaned against the door as she watched Erin making faces at her now awake son.

Erin's gaze lifted towards Kim and her smile fell when she saw Kim in the doorway.

"What's wrong?" Erin asked as she looked at her best friend.

Kim weighed the options of what she was about to do.

She didn't want to ask Erin, she really didn't. But she was a desperate mother and she just wanted to save her baby.

"Can I ask you something?"

000000000000000000

"Hey," Jay greeted, falling onto the bed beside Erin. "Evie is sleeping, finally." He sighed and rubbed his eyes tiredly.

"Is it too early to go to sleep?" When Erin continued to stare at the ceiling, he raised himself up on his elbow, frowning.

"What's the matter?" She counted the tiny bumps on the ceiling, caressing her stomach softly. "Er?"

"It's all going to hell," she whispered, almost in a daze.

"What are you talking about?" he became frightened.

"What the hell is going on Erin?"

She looked over at him sadly. "Kim talked to Dr. Robertson today."

"What did he say?" he said, becoming scared for his friends.

"He said there's a match for Jackson." She returned her gaze to the ceiling.

"Erin that's great," Jay grinned. "This is what we've been waiting for. Why aren't you ecstatic?"

When she didn't respond he frowned again. "Er, what's going on? Tell me." he rolled over until they were touching.

"It's the twins, Jay." She turned to face him. "Doctor Robertson says they're the best match. They can use the cells from their umbilical cord to give Jackson the transplant."

"So what's the problem?" he caressed her face gently. "If they can help, why not go ahead with it?"

She smiled sadly and placed his hand over her belly. "They could die, Jay." Jay let out a deep breath and fell back against the pillows.

"Well then we'll just have to wait until they find another match." Erin gave his hand a gentle squeeze and returned her gaze to the ceiling.

"I told her I'd do it, Jay," she whispered, almost imperceptibly, returning her hand to her belly.

"What?" Jay shouted, bolting upright. "You can't just decide something like this by yourself Erin. You didn't even discuss this with me before you made a decision. They're my twins, too."

"I know that, but what about Jackson, huh Jay?" she shouted back. "He's going to die without help. I know how Kim feels as a mother, I couldn't imagine being that helpless"

"You're their mother too," Jay gestured towards her stomach. "They should be just as important to you."

Tears sprung to her eyes and she let them fall. "You think it was easy to make this decision?" She looked at her hands sadly. "The only one that can help Jackson are the twins."

"They're my kids, too. I have a say in this.," Jay said softly.

"How are we supposed to let our godson die?" She rolled over onto her back and stared at the ceiling.

"I can't let Jack die, Jay. Not knowing that there was something that we could've done to have saved him." She hastily wiped the tears from her eyes, and looked away from him guiltily. "Imagine if this was Everly"

Jay shook his head "Erin..."

"I know everything about Everly. I know the way she still makes little sucking noises when she sleeps. I know her favourite food, her favourite color. I know that she believes there's good in everyone, that she forgives anything and that she loves with her entire being." She opened her eyes to see a picture of Everly, grinning toothily, on her bedside table and a sonogram of the twins right next to her. "Everly is my hope for the world. So are these twins, and I know that Kim feels the same about Jackson."

She reached out to trace the outline of Everly's soft curls and closed her eyes as her fingertips came in contact with the cool glass.

"I love you and these babies so much, I love the thought of being their mother. And I know the risks, but Dr. Robertson said that it's the same risks as having surgery while your pregnant. I just want to be able to help our friends" She cried softly as her heart tore in two. Jay watched her suffer silently, her body curled tight, trying to protect herself.

He took a deep breath and collected her in his arms, pulling her close to his chest as he rocked her gently. She buried her face in his dampened t-shirt and sobbed uncontrollably, her nails digging into his muscular arms.

He soothed her gently with the soft sounds of his whispers and the steady motion of his body as her sobs subsided. He brushed a soaked tendril of hair behind her ear and gazed down at her tortured face. She was asleep, but not nearly relaxed. The dark circles under her eyes betrayed her lack of sleep and her skin was pale and drawn.

Was he being selfish not wanting Erin to do this? They were his kids, too. And while he'd do anything for Adam and Kim, he just didn't understand why it had to be something like this. He didn't want this. He was supposed to protect his family and he didn't understand why he needed to put the risk of his unborn children at risk.

But then he felt an ache in his heart as he stared at his sleeping wife. She was the same person he had fallen in love with. So full of love and sacrifice for the people that she loved the most in the world. And he loved her for it and in spite of it.

Erin had always had this strength that Jay knew he'd never had on his best days and he knew if she had the chance to help anyone, she would. And he'd stand by her no matter what happened.

000000000000000000

"You ready?" Erin smiled, holding Everly tightly on her lap. She watched as Jay finished packing Everly's bag for the trip

"You can't forget anything. Hank won't be able to turn around."

"I know" Jay said as he finished packing Everly's overnight bag.

"We go zoo, Mama?" Noah sighed impatiently. "We go now?" Hank chuckled softly from the door, his arm around Olivia.

"Alright, let's get this show on the road."

Everly and Noah bounced excitedly, rushing to Hank's side. "Say goodbye and we'll be on the way." Noah quickly ran to Erin and Jay, planting rushed kisses on their cheeks before bounding out the door. Erin sighed softly and tugged Everly's pigtails gently, drawing the baby to her.

"Be good, I love you and I'll see you in a few days." Everly nodded and wrapped her arms around her mother.

"Keep an eye on that silly grandpa of yours"

Everly laughed and smiled timidly at Erin.

"Papa?" Everly said as she pointed to Hank. She hesitated for a moment as if she could sense something was wrong. "Mama?"

Erin frowned slightly, brushing a stray lock from Everly's face. "Yeah baby?"

She leaned forward and kissed Erin's cheek softly. "Wuv, mama."

Erin pulled her daughter close again, saddened and surprised at her daughter's intuition.

"I love you too, bug. You're going to have so much fun with grandpa and Olivia. Everything will be back to normal soon." Erin fought back tears as she held her daughter in her arms.

Everly sighed softly and pulled away to say goodbye to her father. "Hey peanut," Erin grinned as Everly reached for Jay.

Jay smiled as he took Everly in his arms "You have a good time with Olivia and Papa. Daddy will see you in a few days okay?" Everly smiled happily and dropped into her Jay's arms.

"Da-dee. Wuv" Everly said as she leaned in and kissed Jay on the chin.

"Daddy loves you, too." Jay smiled and leaned down and kissed Everly's face and neck in a pattern and Everly giggled and pulled away, running to the door as Noah held out his hand for her.

"Bye bye," she shouted happily. She grabbed Noah's hand and the two giggled happily as they ran out the door.

Erin sighed and shook her head amusedly, casting a wary glance over at Jay. He averted his gaze quickly, looking over at Hank as he stood to say goodbye. She sighed again and allowed Olivia to pull her to her feet.

"Okay," Olivia reached up to caress her face. "We're going to hit the road. We'll call you in a few days, see how you're doing." Erin nodded and hugged Olivia tight.

"Take care of my baby." Olivia nodded and Hank moved to her side wordlessly.

"I'm proud of you, kid. No matter what happens." He cupped her face in his hands and hugged her gently. "We'll say a prayer."

She nodded again and fought back tears. Hank was never one to talk about his faith so for him to say something like that really moved Erin.

Soon she was left alone with Jay and the silence. She waited for him to speak, sighing tiredly when he never did. She walked toward the kitchen and settled herself at the table, watching as Kim and Trudy peeled potatoes across from her, chatting quietly. Kim reached across the table, continuing her conversation and caressed Erin's hand maternally.

"Come on Erin," Platt looked at Erin from the corner of her eye. "They'll only be gone for a few days." Erin smiled at her and dropped her head in her hands.

"I know, but I'm still allowed to miss them."

"I mean if anyone is allowed to mope, it's me. Putting off my wedding..." Trudy's voice trailed off.

"Nice" Kim said as she ran a hand through her hair.

Adam had managed to talk Kim into going home for a few hours while he stayed at the hospital with Jack for some much needed father son time.

"I'm just joking. I joke when things are too serious," Platt reached out for her hand, glancing up as Jay walked in.

"You both need some time to yourselves right now. It's best if the children aren't around right now." Erin nodded silently, understanding.

"When is your appointment?" Kim asked quietly.

Erin's face grew solemn and Jay looked away. "Four," she answered grimly, casting a secretive glance at Jay. Platt watched as he avoided her gaze and she squeezed Erin's hand reassuringly.

"Do you believe in destiny Erin?" Erin looked at her curiously.

"I guess."

Platt smiled softly.

"I know this is a difficult time for you, but I know that God is watching over you and your family and that in the end, his will shall be served."

Jay looked up angrily.

"What kind of God makes a child suffer from a disease that could take his life? What kind of God makes unborn children the only way to save him?"

Platt remained calm. "God works in ways we cannot always understand. Sometimes we have to look hard within ourselves to find the meaning of things, and sometimes we never find it."

She looked at Erin again. "Someday we may know why Jackson is ill. Perhaps he has chosen him to fulfil a great purpose. Perhaps he was meant to be a teacher to us all."

Erin frowned, not understanding. "I have seen how things have changed since Jackson became ill. It has brought us all together again, taught each and every one of us that life is precious, when perhaps, we had begun to take each other for granted. I have seen the bond between a mother and child strengthened, when perhaps, it could have continued to diminish."

Erin reflected sadly on the truth of Platt's words, thinking sadly of Everly's dwindling need for her mother. "You feel now, as though a life is being wasted," she looked again at Jay, "When nothing could be further from the truth. These twins are as much a miracle as any that has ever been created. These twins are a gift, a life all their own that can save a life."

Jay looked sadly at Erin, as she watched Platt in a grieved fascination. "These twins were created for a purpose, just as Jackson was. These children will give Jackson life again. And I fully believe they in turn will be ok" Erin whimpered softly and covered her eyes.

"You were given these children to save a life, and for that you should have great pride in these twins." Jay watched as Kim tearfully stood and moved to embrace Erin.

"Erin...I can't begin to even find the words to thank you for what you're doing for me. I've tried so hard to think of something that I can say that would be enough...but nothing is. You're so much more than just my best friend. You're my family and I am forever greatful for what you and Jay have done for me and these twins...when they're born, they're going to know what heroes they truly are" Kim confessed as she held Erin tight in her arms.

000000000000000000

Erin lay on the hospital bed in the overcooled surgical ward, gazing unhappily out the window. She glanced over at the clock for the fiftieth time in as many minutes, sighing as the minute hand neared four thirty.

"You okay?" Jay asked, watching her from a chair in the corner. She nodded silently, looking over at him.

"I hate waiting," she shrugged. "I just want this to be over." Jay nodded sadly and glanced around the room. The door opened quickly and Doctor Robertson walked grimly in, followed by a younger man and woman, both in lab coats.

"Hi Erin," the doctor reached out and squeezed her hand. "I want you to meet Doctor Parks," he pointed to the man. "He's the obstetrician that will be performing the procedure."

The young man reached out to shake her hand, turning to Jay to repeat the gesture. Jay stood and moved to Erin's bedside.

"This is Doctor Sanderson," Doctor Robertson introduced the young woman. "She's a genetecist. She'll be removing the stem cells and preparing them for transplant." Erin nodded and shook her hand.

"I'd say it's nice to meet you..." Erin smiled.

"I understand completely," the woman smiled. "I wish it was under better circumstances." Erin nodded and forced a smile.

"I never thought I could do this." she whispered, looking over at Jay. The woman nodded again and squeezed Erin's hand.

"You're a good mother." Erin smiled gratefully.

"Right now I don't feel like such a good mother." Doctor Parks stepped forward.

"Are you ready Mrs. Halstead?" Erin's body grew rigid and she gripped Jay's hand tightly.

"As ready as I'll ever be I suppose," her voice trembled slightly.

"Okay then. Have you ever had surgery before?" Erin nodded her head and continued squeezing Jays hand. He ran his fingers through her hair, attempting to relax her slightly.

"We're going to take you down the hall and put a general anesthetic in your IV. You should be asleep in a matter of seconds." Erin nodded and looked up at Jay, who smiled reassuringly. Erin looked back at Doctor Parks.

"How long will it take?"

"Shouldn't take any longer than two hours." She took a deep breath an nodded again. "Mr. Halstead, you'll have to wait in the waiting area. She'll be in recovery for about an hour and then you can be with her." Jay nodded and bent down to kiss her head.

"I'll be there as soon as I can baby." Erin nodded, frightened.

"Okay Mrs. Halstead. We're going to go now." She looked quickly over at Jay, eyes wide as they raised the bar on her bed and began to roll her out of the room. Jay held her hand tightly as he walked beside her bed.

"You're gonna be fine," Jay smiled and kissed her head. "All three of you. I love you and I'll see you soon."

"Jay," she whispered, her voice trembling. "Jay I'm sorry."

"Shh," he kissed her again. "I don't want you to apologize. This is not your fault."

"Jay," she whispered again.

"I love you Erin Halstead," he whispered in her ear. "Nothing in the world will ever make me stop loving you. I'll be there when you wake up, I promise."

Erin watched with fearful eyes as the door closed in her husband's face.

He smiled reassuringly as she continued to watch him through the glass and blew her a kiss before turning away. Collapsing on the chairs, he tried not to break down as he prayed silently for his wife and children

000000000000000000

Erin moaned softly as she struggled to open her eyes.

"Hey there sleepyhead," she heard Jay's voice. "I thought I was going to have to amuse myself forever."

"What time is it?" she asked softly, clearing her dry throat.

He handed her a glass of ice chips and checked his watch.

"It's almost nine. How do you feel?"

"I've been better," she whispered softly. "A little sore," she paused. "The twins?."

Jay gave her a tired smile and brought her hand to his lips.

"They're fine."

Erin felt tears well in her eyes as she placed a hand on her stomach "Both of them?."

Jay smiled and laid his hand on top of Erin's on her stomach. "They're perfect. The procedure went even better than the doctors could've imagined"

"I love you" Erin wiped a tear that slid down her cheek and she looked at Jay as he moved to kiss her.

Jay wiped another tear that slid down Erin's cheek and he kissed her again. "I know."

He gave her a tight lipped smile and attempted to brighten her mood. "I called Hank to check on Everly."

"Is she ok?" Erin asked softly, caressing his fingers.

"Olivia said she had a bit of a meltdown because she didn't want to leave the zoo. But according to Hank, she was a perfect angel"

Erin scoffed. "Hank is just blind to her. Those terrible two's are going to be fun" She looked at him and forced a smile. "She's one and a half, they know we don't expect perfection."

"You know, despite her faults I think we have really incredible kid." Jay teased.

Erin smiled "And we're about to have two more."

"We are," he assured her. "Twins who have already done something so amazing for someone else and they're not even here yet. What a life they're going to live."

Erin nodded blankly, her eyes fluttering softly. "They're half you. So they had to be amazing"

"It's all you baby" Jay said taking Erin's hand and kissing it gently. "Now you've had a long day. I want you to close your eyes and go back to sleep."

"Uh huh," she murmured quietly, her eyes slipping shut. "Stay?"

"I'm not going anywhere sweetheart. I'll be right here."

She made a quiet sound of acknowledgement and became still. Jay watched her for a moment, making sure she was asleep. Raising his hand slightly he rested it over her own against the swell of her abdomen. Sighing softly, he looked up at the ceiling. "Thank you."

He shook his head sadly and sat back in his chair as he kept one hand in Erin's and the other on the swell of her stomach.

Beyond thankful for all the blessings in his life.

000000000000000000

TWO DAYS LATER

The waiting room was filled with tense conversations as everyone they loved waited for news on Jackson's condition.

His surgery had begun over four hours ago and Kim was nervous. She sat distractedly in one of the chairs as Trudy relayed news and gossip from Chicago. Noah was giggling happily in a corner as he and Hank kicked a foam ball back and forth and Adam sat nearby, listening to the TV relay information from the paper.

"I never thought I'd need therapy again," Erin attempted a joke, setting herself down beside Kim. "I think there's a conspiracy going on between the doctors here." Kim forced a small smile as she looked over at her friend.

"He's going to be perfect Kim," Erin reassured her. "I know it."

"I hope you're right," Kim sighed turning her attention to look around the room. Everly was curled up in the chair beside Olivia, as she read her a chapter from Charlotte's Web and Noah was engrossed in destroying the order of the room.

"Where did my husband go?" Gaby asked, sitting in a seat across from Kim. "He went to the bathroom twenty minutes ago."

"I think Matt went down to the cafeteria for a coffee run," Erin told her. "Matty Jr. went with him."

Gaby nodded and reached across for Kim's hand. "Is there anything I can do?."

Kim sighed slightly and turned sharply at the sound of an opening door. When Mouch and Matt slipped through the door she groaned frustratedly. "This is ridiculous. Why is it taking so long?"

Erin sighed and slipped her hand into her friend's, holding her other arm out for Everly as she crawled into her lap.

"It's just insane," Matt told her matter of factly.

"I agree" Erin smirked.

"How long does this take?" Adam asked. "I just want to know about my son"

Kim chuckled and leaned over to take Adam's hand. "I'm with you pal."

"You know what?" Zoe asked as she watched Noah crawl into Olivia's lap.

"What sweetie?" Kim replied, wrapping her arms around her niece.

"I have decided that I'm going to be a doctor." Kim looked at Erin, her eyes wide, only to see the same expression mirrored on the face of her friend.

"Why is that, Zoe?" Erin asked, cradling her Everly against her chest. Kim caught Zoe's sheepish expression and waited for her to respond.

"Because," Zoe shrugged. "If I'm a doctor I'll make sure that little kids like Jackson don't get sick anymore."

Kim smiled sadly and kissed Zoe's tousled hair.

"I think you'll do a fantastic job." Kim nodded in agreement and jumped as the door swung open again.

"Dammit," she cursed as Platt poked her head inside.

"Sorry," Trudy held her hands up in surrender. "I come in peace. Don't shoot." Kim grumbled to herself as the rest of everyone from District 21 and Firehouse 51 made their way into the waiting room.

"Just what I need," she muttered to Erin. "Why didn't they just stay at their hotel?."

"They're here for Jackson, Burgess," Erin reminded her. "I don't think they'll be causing any problems. You guys need the support." Kim sighed defeatedly and slumped down in her chair.

"What the hell is taking so long. I'm going crazy here." Adam asked

"Adam," Zoe giggled. "You've got a potty mouth today."

Adam reached over and brushed a lock of hair from the Zoe's face.

"I'm allowed to have a potty mouth today honey."

"Yeah," Kim agreed, half heartedly. "Now go say hi to Atwater. Let Aunt Kim talk."

Zoe sighed and slid off her lap and made her way over to Atwater with a smile on her face.

"So have you and Adam talked any more about what's going to happen after this?" Gaby asked, chewing nervously on her thumbnail. "Not that I'm trying to get rid of you at Molly's or anything. I was just wondering what your plans were, work wise"

Kim sighed and jumped as the door opened again, Jay walking slowly in.

"We haven't really been talking about much lately. We're both just taking things one day at a time. I really would like to try and get things back to normal for Jackson and I don't want work to suffer."

"Jackson can't really go back to daycare can he?" Erin asked, craning her neck to find her husband. "I mean, it's going to take a while for him to be completely recovered isn't it?"

Kim nodded and forced a smile as her father bent down to kiss her cheek.

"Sorry it took me so long," he whispered apologetically. "I got away as soon as I could."

Kim nodded again and watched as her father took a seat beside Gaby.

"I don't really know what's going to happen. I could take a leave with Jackson when he gets out of here. I know they have a fabulous pediatric cardiology department and it would be good for Jackson to feel like a normal little boy again."

"Why do you not sound sure?" Gaby responded, slipping her hand into Casey's as he sat next to her.

"I don't know," Kim shrugged. "I hate disrupting him or hurting his schedule, especially now. He has wonderful doctors...I just...I don't know what to do." She sighed again and looked across the room where Adam flashed her a tired smile. "Sometimes I think I'd like to be home with my parents in Aurora. Just to be close to my mom and sister and Zoe. To have help with Jack"

She returned the gesture with all the energy she could muster and looked away guiltily. "I can't take Jack away from him and I have no right being away from my husband either. He's suffering just as much as anybody."

"Jackson's suffering the most in this, Burgess" Gaby squeezed her friend's hand. "Adam will understand that nothing will ever be the same if Jackson can't get well. He wants what's best for him too."

Kim nodded gently and dropped her head onto Erin's shoulder. "I hate this."

Erin stroked Kim's hair tenderly and leaned her own head down against Kim's. The pair jumped again as the door opened once again, a hesitant doctor standing in the open frame. "Oh God," Kim whispered, rising slowly from the chair.

She moved gingerly toward the doctor and held out her hand for Adam who met her halfway. She opened her mouth to speak but found no words could escape. Adam squeezed her hand and pulled her close.

"How is he? Is it over?" After a brief second the doctor released his breath and smiled.

"That boy of yours is one hell of a trooper." Kim released the breath she had been holding and went limp in Adam's arms. "He came through the surgery with absolutely flying colours. He's back in isolation now but you should be able to talk see him in a while. The surgery went great and The last blood test we gave him showed his immune system building itself up at a fantastic rate. We were also able to repair the hole and I expect that Jackson is going to make a full recovery."

Kim looked up at Adam and laughed, straight from the bottom of her soul.

His eyes shone with tears of happiness and he pulled Kim into his arms, swinging her around as he held her.

She wiped her eyes on the back of her sleeve and looked around the room. There wasn't a dry eye in the house and Kim beamed happily at their smiles of relief and congratulations.

So this was kind of a different chapter, I know. But I wanted to wrap up some of the medical drama before I move forward with the birth of the Linstead twins in a few chapters.

The next chapter will be a flashback to Hank and Olivia's wedding since a few of you PM'd me about wanting to read about it. So if you have any suggestions you'd like to see with their wedding flashback please let me know.
