91. You Gotta Know Your Enemies

Thanks for all the reviews. I appreciate them, hope you like the chapter.

Kim let the spray of the warm water wash away the stickiness of the ice cream from her body. After their experience on the table, Adam had told her that since she did cook dinner he would clean the kitchen, giving her the opportunity to take a shower. But she wasn't by herself for long. The shower curtain was pulled back, startling Kim slightly.

"Didn't mean to scare you."

She smiled, "It's okay."

He got into the shower with her, standing behind her. He wrapped his arms around her as she smiled. He rested his head on her shoulder as she leaned her head back on his shoulder. Kim entwined her fingers with his and looked over her shoulder at him, "Wanna get under the water?"

"Not really."

"Well, what do you want?" He smiled, and she let out a slight laugh, "You're serious aren't you?"

"Yep."

She shook her head, as she turned in his arms to face him, "What am I going to do with you?"

"I can think of a lot of things," he said as his lips brushed against hers.

She smiled as she rested her head on his chest, "I'm sure you can."

He tilted her head up at him, "Hey…you okay?"

"Yeah. Just…happy."

He smiled, "You're happy?"

She nodded, "Yes. Happy that my parents are babysitting a few hours tomorrow so we can go house hunting. And you know, happy that a large amount of thanks goes to you and your ice cream eating techniques. "

He laughed, "I've got stuff you haven't even seen yet."

She smiled, "And I have a feeling we have a long time for me to find out what those are."

He nodded, "I'd say so."

She kissed him softly. The water suddenly turned very cold, causing her to pull away from him. "Shit!"

Adam sighed as they got out of the shower. "I hate it when it does that."

Kim wrapped a towel around her body and looked at the shower, "What? Get cold for no apparent reason?"

He shook his head, "Nope. Ruins the potential for awesome sex."

She smiled, "Yeah…no kidding."

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "Come on, Darlin, let's go to bed."

"It's 7:30."

"We aren't going to sleep," he said gruffly in her ear.

She pressed her lips together and tried to hide her smile, "I do have an early morning tomorrow.."

He shook his head, "Oh…you better run."

She took off out of the bathroom and into her bedroom in a hurry. He followed her and caught her on the bed, tickling her as her body bucked against his. He stopped tickling her and then kissed her forehead, "Had enough?"

She smiled and pushed him onto his back, "Not hardly."

Erin moaned as Jay's hands moved over her hips, guiding his movements from where he was laying on his back. She tried to go faster, but he wouldn't have it. If she tried, he merely held her hips against his and wouldn't let her move. She stopped trying by now and just let him guide her.

Her head lolled back as his hands cupped her behind. She leaned forward, kissing him roughly as his hands wandered over her back. She pulled away and dropped her head onto his shoulder, closing her eyes as he allowed her to move faster. She leaned back again, his hands coming to rest on her hips. She moaned as he began bucking up at her, sending her head spinning.

She felt her orgasm getting closer as he moved his hands over her body. She nearly stopped moving until his finger left her and captured her hips again, moving her quickly over him until she felt him shake beneath her, and let out the sexiest sound she had ever heard. Something that was so animalistic it made her want him more.

She finally collapsed on his chest, her head resting on his shoulder as her hand moved over his cheek. "Oh…God…"

He smiled. He placed a soft kiss on her shoulder and rolled her away from him. He removed the condom and deposited it into the bedside trashcan. He rolled over again, finding Erin nearly asleep. "Hey…"

She opened her eyes and looked at him as he moved to lay half on her and half on the bed. She closed her eyes again when he began stroking her hair, "Hey," she said softly.

"What are you doing?"

"Going to sleep."

He groaned, "You can't do that."

"Why?" she asked, never opening her eyes.

"Cause our kids are going to be here in an hour and I want to show you the city"

She smiled, "But I'm tired."

He sighed, "Erin…"

She opened her eyes and pushed him onto his back, snuggling into his warm embrace. She smiled when she felt his arms around her, holding her protectively. She shivered, causing him to look down at her face, "You cold?"

She nodded as he helped her crawl beneath the sheets. She smiled at the warmth surrounding her. She moved her thigh to rest over his waist, and felt his hand begin to rub circles over her skin with his thumb. "Mmmm," she moaned with a smile.

He looked down at her, "What are you moaning about?"

She shrugged, "I think I like this more than the sex."

He smiled, placing a kiss on her forehead. She looked up at him, and seemed to be waiting on something, "What?"

"No perverted comment?"

He shook his head, "No…why ruin a moment?"

She shook her head, "You know…the more I'm with you the more you surprise me," she lowered her head back to his shoulder.

"The more I surprise myself," he said softly. It wasn't long after that and she was asleep. He listened to the soft sound of her breathing and for the first time appreciated the fact that she was just there, that close to him, giving him the chance to experience how wonderful she really was. He was so happy with her. She was a person that was just…everything you could want. He still wasn't sure he deserved her. His past had woman after woman, and he wasn't sure he could ever erase that. But what he did know was no woman would ever compare to the girl who was in his arms. The love of his life in every aspect.

She smiled in her sleep as he watched her. He closed his eyes, the sound of her breathing putting him to sleep.

"Kim!" Adam called out as he came storming into the apartment.

"What?" She asked, coming around the corner, Jackson right on her heels.

"Guess what happened today?"

"What happened today?" She inquired as Adam lifted Jack into his arms in front of her.

"I was given two tickets for the Cubs game tonight."

"Oh really?"

"Uh huh…you think Kev would watch the kids so we can go?"

"We? Adam, I don't want to go. I haven't felt good today and baseball really isn't my idea of fun, you know?"

"Oh, yeah…sure. We don't have to go, it was just an idea."

"You can go ahead and go, I'll just stay home."

"Well, I do want to see a game live…but I don't really want to go alone."

"Maybe Kevin will go with you? April and I can get together and talk or something."

"I don't think he'll go."

"It wouldn't hurt to ask him."

"I know…but if you're not feeling good, I'm not going to leave you anyway."

"Oh Adam, I feel fine. Just a little…tired."

"Hey Kim, just in case you haven't noticed…you're allowed to be tired. I mean we do have two kids"

"Really? I was afraid I gained weight and went through all that pain for my health ."

"Smartass"

Running her hands over her tired eyes, she looked up at him unconvinced. "I guess that's true."

"Kim, you're tired, but I think you look utterly beautiful."

"Oh, Adam stop flattering me."

"It's the truth, you are always gorgeous."

"Go call Kevin and stop pestering me, would ya?"

"Anything for you sweetheart," he said leaning forward to kiss her softly.

Picking up the cordless phone, he shifted Jackson over to his other hip. Dialing the familiar number, he waited for the line to connect by making faces back and forth with Abby as Kim sat down on the couch with her.

"Hello," the soft voice answered, taking Adam's attention away from Jack.

"April, is Kevin there?"

"Yeah, he's in the shower though."

"Oh, okay."

"Do you want me to take the phone in to him?"

"I don't care, I'll just ask you. Do you think Kevin would want to go with me to a baseball game tonight? I know it's short notice, but I was just given the tickets today."

"I have no idea, Adam. I'll let you talk to him."

"You don't have plans do you? Because if you do, forget I asked and don't even bother telling him."

"You're sweet Adam, but we don't have anything planned."

"Okay then."

Knocking on the bathroom door, she pushed it open and walked up to the shower door.

"Kevin, phone."

"What?" He hollered over the sound of the water.

"Adam is on the phone," she yelled handing it over the top of the door.

Taking it from her, he stepped away from the spray of water.

"What do you want brother?"

"I want you to go out with me tonight."

"Out? Elaborate."

"I have tickets to the Cubs game and I want you to go with me."

"Adam…get Kim to go."

"She doesn't want to, she'd rather to stay home and gossip with April."

Laughing, Kevin relented. "Fine, what time?"

"Um, we need to leave in about an hour. Bring April over if she wants to hang out with Kim and the kids."

"I'm sure she will."

"Thanks, Kevin…I really appreciate you going with me."

"No problem, see you in a little bit."

"Bye."

"He said yes," Adam said taking a seat next to Kim and reaching his hand out to trace Abby's face..

"Good, because I certainly didn't want to go."

"Well that's not very nice of you," he mumbled as he leaned forward to brush his lips against her neck.

"I'm not a very nice person," she said turning around in his arms and offering him a small smile.

"I beg to differ, I think you're the nicest person in the world."

"You're buttering me up and I'm not sure why…that's the part that scares me."

"I'm not either, I just love you."

"Well I love you too," she said kissing his lips gently before continuing, "But I still think you're up to something."

"I swear I'm not," he said looking into her eyes seriously.

"Good, I don't know if I could put up with you scheming. Especially if you've involved Kevin in it, who knows what the two of you are capable of."

"Us? Now that's funny. I was more worried about what you and April were going to be scheming about."

"Getting Kevin to propose to her…what else would we talk about?"

"Throwing your husband out for making last minute plans?"

"You feel guilty, don't you?"

"Maybe a little bit…I usually don't spring stuff like this on you."

"Adam go to the ballgame, I honestly don't care if you go. I want you to go, and I want you to have fun. Drink a beer, shoot the shit with Kevin and enjoy yourself."

Pulling her closer to his body, he hugged her whispering a soft thank you into her ear.

Bending down he kissed Abby, who gave her father a small toothless grin.

"That's my baby girl," Adam said as looked at Abby as she squealed loudly.

"Don't encourage her, she'll be up all night long."

"Sorry," he smiled sheepishly, before adding, "I need to change clothes," he said regretfully releasing her.

"Alright."

Stepping away from her and around Jackson who was busying himself on the floor, he headed off to change clothes.

Knocking twice, Kevin opened the door ushering April inside in front of him. Carrying two plastic bags full of magazines for her, Kevin followed her inside.

Greeting them, Kim and April embraced as if they hadn't seen each other in years. Setting the bags down on the couch.

"What's up, Burgess?" Kevin asked as he leaned down to hug her before taking a glance down at Abby.

"Get your hands off my wife," Adam said walking around the corner, smirking.

"Where's Jack?," Kevin asked, sliding his hands around April's waist.

"He fell asleep about ten minutes ago," Adam offered adjusting his ball cap.

Nodding, he rested his chin against April's shoulder.

"Nice hat sweetheart," Kim said looking up at her husband.

"It looks good right?"

"Oh, yeah…great."

"Are you being sarcastic?" He asked, nuzzling her neck, tickling the soft skin.

"Maybe," she answered, trying not to laugh.

"We have to go, or I'd do something about that smart little mouth of yours."

"Oh, I'm so scared," she said pulling away from him.

"You should be, I'm rough and tough."

"Oh good God, get him out of here so I don't have to listen to him any longer."

Kissing her softly before stepping away, Adam looked over at Kevin who was kissing April's neck.

"That's not what I needed to see," Adam whispered to Kim, turning his head.

"Oh please, he's not doing anything you wouldn't do to me."

"That's different," he said protesting.

"If you say so," Kim said smiling inwardly. Knowing he'd never see it her way.

"Come on Kevin, let go of her so we can leave."

Laughing as he released her, Adam kissed Kim's forehead softly.

"We'll be back later," Adam said as he followed Kevin out the door.

"That's what we're afraid of," April spouted off, causing Kevin to turn around and send her a mock glare.

"Bye ladies," Kevin said waving as Adam pushed on his back.

"We love you," Adam added, closing the door behind them.

Looking between each other, April and Kim laughed. Lifting the bags into her arms, April grinned. They were going to have fun whether Kim knew it or not.

"I'm pretty sure this is it, Hank" Olivia said as they pulled into the apartment complex.

"Doesn't look very much like military housing" Hank cut the engine off and looked in the backseat at Everly and the twins.

"There's Erin and Jay" Olivia said pointing to the side door of the complex as it opened and Erin and Jay walked out.

Hank yawned and rubbed his eyes as he looked at his watch. It was already late in the evening and he and Olivia still had an eight hour drive to the beach.

"Do you want me to drive?" Olivia asked as she reached a hand over and gently rubbed Hank's neck.

"No, I'm good. Nothing a cup of coffee when we get gas can't cure" Hank assured as Erin and Jay made their way to the car.

"Hey" Erin greeted as Olivia and Hank stepped out of the car. "How was the drive?"

"With four kids under four?...Long" Olivia said with a laugh as she hugged Erin.

"Halstead" Hank said as he shook Jay's hand "You're looking good"

"Thanks Hank. And thanks for bringing them down here on your way. I appreciate it. I've really missed my family" Jay said with a smile.

"No problem" Hank said as Erin walked around the back of the car and opened the back door.

"Mommy" Everly smiled as Erin reached down to unbuckle Everly from her carseat.

"Hi baby, mommy missed you so much. Did you have fun with Papaw and Livvy?" Erin asked as she lifted Everly out of her seat.

"Yes" Everly said as Erin sat her down on the ground.

"Hey bug" Jay greeted as he looked down at his daughter.

"Daddy!" Everly yelled with delight and took off running the short distance to Jay as he knelt down on the pavement.

Jay smiled as Everly's tiny body crashed into his and he closed his eyes as he held he lifted her up and hugged her before bending down and kissing her all over her face and neck.

Everly shrieked with laughter as Jay's stubble tickled her neck and she wrapped her hands around his neck as he leaned back upright. "Hi daddy!"

"Hi pumpkin, daddy missed you so much. I'm so glad you're here" Jay explained.

"Me too" Everly said.

"We're going to have so much fun. We're going to go to the zoo and the museum and the park" Jay explained.

"Go now?" Everly asked as she looked at her father.

"We'll go tomorrow" Jay explained. "Let's go say hi to your brother and sister"

Jay sat Everly down on the ground and walked over to where Erin was beside Hank's car. He moved into the car and looked in the carseat at the twins who were staring at him.

"Hi guys. Remember me?" Jay cooed down as he looked down at Arden and Caleb.

Caleb and Arden studied Jay's face for a few moments before they both loudly cooed and smiled at the attention they were getting from him.

"See, I told you they'd remember" Erin assured.

"I can't tell you how relieved I am" Jay said "I know they're at the age Everly was when she started the stranger phase"

"You're not a stranger, Jay. You're their father" Erin reached down and picked Everly up as she Hank walked around the car carrying Noah.

"Can you guys stay for awhile?" Erin asked. "Have some dinner?"

Olivia was about to reply when Hank shook his head "We'll come up for a minute. To get you guys settled, but we really need to get on the road"

Erin nodded and gave Everly a quick kiss as Jay shut the back door of Hank's car holding the twins car seats in each hand.

"Let's head upstairs and I'll show you guys around" Jay said as they went upstairs towards his apartment.

Jay opened the door to the apartment and stepped inside as everyone followed him in.

Hank took a look around the apartment and nodded "This is a nice place, Jay"

"Thanks" Jay said as he put the twins down on the couch and unbuckled them from their carseats.

"I missed you guys" Jay cooed as he lifted both Caleb and Arden from their seats and cradled them against his chest.

Caleb and Arden babbled happily as Jay held them and placed a kiss on both of their heads. "I'm so glad you guys remember me. Daddy was afraid you'd forget all about me"

"Hey Jay!" Amy said as she walked into the apartment from across the hall. "Did you forget about the meeting we have in an hour?"

"Shit" Jay groaned forgetting all about the final meeting of the week.

He looked at the twins and then at Erin who looked from Amy to him. "Jay"

Jay sighed, he didn't want to go, but he knew he had to. It was work after all. The whole reason he was away from his family.

"Erin, I'll be back" Jay assured as he handed Arden and Caleb off to Hank.

"You're not serious" Erin said as she sat Everly down on the floor and walked towards her husband.

"Jay, if we're going to go...we need to leave" Amy said crossing her leg as she ran a hand through her hair.

"I'm coming" Jay said as he looked at his wife. "I'll be back as soon as I can"

"Jay" Erin furrowed her brows and sighed.

"I won't be long. You guys have dinner and I'll be home later tonight" Jay explained and he placed a kiss on Erin's cheek before grabbing his wallet and keys and walking out the door.

"Daddy!" Everly called running towards the door and grabbing Jay on the leg.

"Evie, I'll be back. I promise" Jay said looking down at her.

"And who is this?" Amy asked as she knelt down to the ground and Everly backed away from her.

"Can you tell her your name?" Jay asked.

"No" Everly said moving towards Jay and holding tighter to his leg.

"Everly" Jay said "That's not nice. Can you tell Amy hi?"

"No" Everly said again as Erin walked up to Jay and knelt down to pick Everly up.

"If you're going. You need to go before you upset her" Erin said as Everly started to cry as she picked her up.

"Daddy!" Everly whined and reached for her father.

"Erin..." Jay started as he watched his wife turn her back and walk away.

"I've got it under control." Erin said coldly as she took a crying Everly towards the bedroom.

Jay sighed and looked at Amy as he nodded a goodbye to Olivia and Hank and walked out the door.

000000000000000000

Olivia's sat on the arm of the chair, her brown tresses hanging loosely over her shoulder, while her legs dangled off the couch. Hank was sitting on the couch reading the paper as Erin folded laundry on the floor. The rain fell against the window as the storm raged outside and they were all feeling the effects of it.

It had started storming soon after Jay and Amy had left to go to their meeting at work and after some debate, Hank and Olivia decided to spend the night at the apartment with Jay and Erin and get a fresh start to the beach in the morning. So after dinner, Erin and Olivia had put the kids to bed and the three adults were now sitting in the living room waiting for Jay to return.

Olivia lifted her head tiredly as she looked over at Erin.

"So can I ask you how you honestly feel about this girl, Amy? Is it weird for you to see Jay working with her?."

Erin turned to look at her friend.

"Olivia, I didn't have any choice. He didn't choose to. They were assigned. What was I supposed to say, go to your boss and refuse to work with her because I think she wants to have sex with you."

"I don't know" Olivia responded firmly. "You're too trusting, Erin. I'm not saying you shouldn't trust Jay. But not everyone is as good as your husband."

Hank looked up from the paper he was reading and glared in Olivia's direction.

"Olivia. You know Jay isn't like that." It wasn't often that Hank defended Jay, but this was one of the few things he knew that Jay wouldn't do.

Mostly because if he did cheat, Hank would kill him.

"I didn't mean it like that!" Olivia retorted. "I know Jay wouldn't do anything with this girl. It's just the girl I wouldn't trust!"

Hank put his paper down and turned to look at Erin before turning back to Olivia.

"Olivia..." Erin said softly from the other side of the room.

"Have you actually talked to this girl? One on One?"

"I don't know," Erin admitted. "All I know is she really exotic and very beautiful."

"What time is Jay supposed to be back?" Hank asked looking at his watch.

"They should be here any time actually. His meeting ended at ten."

Erin said as she looked at the clock. It was ten fourty-five. The drive from Quantico to Alexandria was about 45 minutes and she knew he should be back soon..

"If you need me to..."

Olivia was unable to finish her sentence as the sound of the door opening filled the room and Jay walked in smiling and laughing with Amy in tow.

"Hey, sweetheart!" Jay greeted as he looked over at Erin and his eyes softened. "Olivia, Hank." Jay greeted knowing full well why they were here and he felt a knot form in his stomach.

Olivia's eyes narrowed at the tall slender woman who was standing beside Jay.

Jay strode over to Erin and cupped her face in his hands. "I missed you," he whispered against her lips before he kissed her deeply.

Erin pulled her lips away from his, knowing he was doing it to help her feel more secure but it made her uncomfortable, like they were putting on a show.

Jay looked at her quizzically and she smiled at him reassuringly before walking around him and over to Amy.

There was no lying about it, Amy was breathtaking. An exotic goddess was the first thing that came to Erin's mind and she plastered a smile on her face, hoping it didn't look too fake. Amy was tall, taller than Erin and she was slender, her body curving perfectly in all the right places. Her breasts were large, way larger than Erin's and the soft swell of her cleavage was evident beneath the low cut collar of her tight shirt. Her hair was long and brown, but it had a natural wave to it and her eyes were black. They were deep and there was something in them that Erin couldn't define, but she didn't like it one bit.

"Hi, Amy," Erin said sweetly as Jay slid his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him.

"Hi, Erin," Amy smiled. "Did you guys have a nice dinner?."

Erin nodded but didn't respond any further and in an effort to break the tension in the room, Jay turned to introduce Hank and Olivia.

"These are our friends, Hank and Olivia." Jay motioned to Amy.

"This is Amy. She's my partner at work."

Olivia smiled at her. "Hi."

Hank walked deliberately closer to her and eyed her up and down in an obvious manner before she finally spoke. "So, you're the partner? That's how Jay met his wife...you know, Erin"

Olivia's mouth formed a small "o" but no sound came from her lips and Erin turned her face to conceal the small smile forming on her lips. Jay closed his eyes and silently wished for the floor to open up and swallow him whole.

Amy seemed completely unfazed and unaffected and just continued smiling. She was used to people being jealous of her and she loved every second of it.

"So I've heard." Amy said with a smile. "But I think I can keep my hands to myself. You know, unlike Erin and Jay"

"Is that supposed to be a joke?" Olivia retorted as she fought the urge to reach out and bitch slap the girl.

Amy's eyes narrowed a little but she kept the smile on her face. Hank walked up behind Olivia, hoping that he wouldn't have to break apart a cat fight, somewhat confused why Olivia was being so rude to the woman. But proud of his wife for being so defensive

Jay grasped Erin's hip and squeezed it gently and she turned to look at him, her eyebrows rising in question. Was she wrong to not find Amy's joke funny?

"It was only a joke. I respect that Jay's married. I'm sure he knows that." Amy put her finger to her lips thoughtfully.

"So, Erin, Jay tells me you gave up a Sargeant program so he could come here with me and Scott. Do you regret that?" Amy began hoping to change the subject at hand.

Olivia pffted under her breath. "I'm going to go to bed.."

Olivia walked toward the bedroom door of Scott's room that he'd kindly given up for the night, brushing roughly passed Amy. She slammed the door behind her and Hank started to follow her.

"Um, I'm gonna head to bed too. Nice to meet you, Amy. Goodnight kid, Jay" Hank stole a glance at Erin who nodded and followed Olivia to the bedroom..

"Well, that was interesting," Amy joked hoping to lighten the mood.

"I'm sorry, Amy," Jay began but Amy held up her hand to stop him.

"Don't sweat it, Jay. Some people get intimidated. I don't let it bother me."

Erin stepped out of Jay's arm and walked over to the couch to sit down.

"Amy, please have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"

Amy sat on the chair and shook her head.

"No thanks. We stopped at the coffee shop near work and I had an iced mocha. But thanks anyway."

Jay moved to sit next to Erin. "Yeah, that's why we're a little late," Jay explained as he took a seat next to Erin. His cell phone rang at that moment and Jay got up to answer it.

Erin took the opportunity of his absence to address Amy.

"Amy, why don't we just cut the niceties here and cut to the chase."

Amy shook her head admiring Erin's forwardness.

Erin glanced over her shoulder to see Jay step of the apartment, not paying attention to the two women.

Erin turned back to Amy and spoke softly so that Jay couldn't hear.

"It doesn't bother me that you and Jay are partnered at work. Jay and I are very happy and I trust him completely. In fact, you're not even his type. But let me just tell you one thing just so there's no confusion about where we all stand. I protect what's mine fiercely. And Jay is off limits to you or anyone else."

Amy smirked as Erin spoke. When Erin was finished, Amy leaned forward and responded in kind.

"Erin, I'm glad you addressed this right from the get go. Most women don't like me on sight and especially don't like it when I spend time with their husbands. Jay and I are working together. That's it. I'm not interested in breaking up a marriage. So you have nothing to worry about."

Erin cocked her head to the side as her eyes narrowed. "I'm not worried, Amy. I just wanted to make sure you and I were perfectly clear where we stood."

"Crystal," Amy smiled tightly as Jay approached, having hung up the phone with whoever he was talking to.

"So, what did I miss?" he asked completely oblivious to their conversation as he sat down on the couch again, putting his arm around Erin.

Please review. Things might get interesting with Amy.

Also, suggestions for Halstead family bonding are appreciated.
