University X in the middle of the town looked lively today. The roads that connected the building were lined with blooming cherry blossom trees. Their petals fell around and created a beautiful silhouette like a dancing poet. The cherry blossoms in this university were blooming earlier than expected. This was the best university this town has to offer, it was an honor to be able to study there. Anyone who wished to study there would have to pass the test, which was known to be particularly difficult. On top of that, they must compete with thousands of other applicants.
Among the beautiful scenery, there was a young man in an oversized shirt lazily walking between the university buildings. He cared for nothing except the music played through his earphone, even though he was walking among many other college students. The wind gently blew the cherry blossoms petals and that young man's hair. He took a turn and pushed a door open while glued to his phone. He walked through several aisles, picked up a couple of snacks, then stood in line' all while closely attached to his phone. He cared not for the other people that gave him a weird look.
"Excuse me, ma'am. Can you pay in cash? Our EDC device is currently out of service."
The cashier's voice made that young man look toward her. In front of the cashier, he saw a female figure wearing a dress and a red sweater. She looked anxious. Her long hair hung freely, while occasionally gleaming and emanating a fresh scent as they moved along with that girl. From the front, her face was barely visible, covered by her hair. That young man continued whatever he was doing with his phone; whatever he had in there, it was more entertaining than the rest of this world has to offer.
"Sorry, but I don't have cash at the moment and I really needed this. Can I pay it later? You can keep my ID for now, I promised that I will return to pay this when the class is over." the long haired customer asked.
The middle aged cashier sighed, her facial expression really showed that she did not like the customer's bargain. Long silence, that made the female customer cry, made that young man look forward again. That female customer swayed her hair, now her charming face was fully visible. The young man looked around, there was no one else except them. It seemed that the other customers just could not wait any longer. He reached for his pocket to grab some cash and then placed them by the register. The cashier seemed surprised to see the money, which was mostly loose changes, then looked at the young man.
"Including whatever this young lady buys." the young man said.
The female customer looked at him, her round eyes wide open as she felt surprised. That young man took the receipt and went on his way. He placed his earphone back on again. He tore open the snack he had just bought and ate it, again, while sticking his face to his phone.
"Excuse me, can you spare a minute?" The female customer tried to talk to that young man, but he could not hear her. She walked faster to catch up with him and forcibly removed his earphone. He was surprised, but looked back nonetheless. His phone screen clearly displayed 'game over'.
"Who are you?" That man seemed to dislike whoever called for him. The two of them stared at each other under the falling petals of cherry blossoms. That girl smiled and bowed a little.
"Thank you for your help at the store, I will pay you back as soon as my class is done. May I have your number? So I can call you for that."
Silence. No answer. That young man only stared at her from top to bottom, without any expression on his face. Then he went on his way and left that girl alone. She could not do anything else, she was too embarrassed to call him again. She already said a lot, she even tried to get his number. She had never done this to any man before, and now, once she did, she felt as if she was bluntly rejected.
Suddenly, that girl's phone, which she had held for some time now, rang. It has a pink casing with a cute anime-style illustration on it. She picked it up and placed it on her ear.
"Yes, Mashimo. What is it?" Her soft voice answered the phone, and she waited for the person at the other end of the line to reply. Her beautiful eyes brightened up as she replied "Yes, I'll be there right away!". She ran to 'be there' and surpassed the young man who walked leisurely.
The young man did not bother to notice her running by, but suddenly someone hugged him from behind. He did not seem to like whoever hugged him.
"Hey, Miura, did you just talk to her? Did you really talk to her?" It turned out to be the friend of Miura Kenzi.
Somehow, Miura only glanced at him, he did not seem to be interested in talking about his encounter with that girl. He shifted his focus back to his phone.
"Come on, I saw you talked to her, both of you stared at each other for a while. I wonder, what are you talking about? You are so lucky to have a chance to talk to her, other boys would kill for such an opportunity."
Once again, Miura chose to remain silent. He sighed as he lost another round on his phone. He lost once due to that girl's interruption, now he had to lose yet another round because of his friend's interruption. Miura put his phone in his pocket.
"Yuki Kagami, a freshman, the most popular college student in this university." His friend explained.
Miura instantly showed interest in his friend, then he looked at the direction in which that girl went, she was nowhere to be found. Even if he looked around, bet she was nowhere in sight. Miura was silenced, his black eyes widened.
"Yuki Kagami?" Miura mumbled, as if he repeated his friend's remark. He looked at his friend and mumbled "Is she that Yuki Kagami?"
