Memories of the Dark: "Lady A & B"

Cedany Shaw,

I was woken up by a clinking sound. It was dark inside the room, so I couldn't see much. The only thing I could see was the bedside table because the moonlight outside the window was giving it light. I remembered that there was something inside my pocket. I touched my pocket as I sighed in relief. It was still there. I let it out and it was glowing red. It was a tube of red liquid, but it wasn't just any liquid. Since it was lighting up the whole room with its glow.

I put it back in my pocket and I closed my eyes once again. Just from touching the tube of red liquid, I felt better. I decided to sleep once again to have a full recovery. I closed my eyes until my drowsiness finally hit me.

"Oh, you're awake. Welcome back to the real world." Simon was standing beside me while I was laying on the bed.

"What are you doing?" I asked him.

"Clovis is busy with his Archery class, however, he wanted to give you flowers. So in his stead, I bought you flowers." Simon put the bouquet of lilies on the bedside table. "Are you feeling better?" I nodded at his question.

"Did I miss the Herbal class?"

Simon was rather calm, he just sat there beside me.

"You did. Other than that the representatives don't have anything to do today unless they picked sorcery or archery."

Simon looked at me with a curious look. He's probably waiting for me to tell him what weapon I decided on.

"I decided to wield a gun." Simon looked surprised.

"A gun? I thought you would pick a sword or a bow since it fits your appearance. Personality-wise, hmm... I don't know that much about you. I only know what Clovis told me about you."

Simon is very straightforward, he will tell you some stuff you don't even need to know or was unnecessary to say.

"Thanks, I guess? What does my appearance give the vibe of? An elegant lady?"

I am curious why he thought a sword would fit me better than a gun.

"Yeah, you do look like royalty."

"I don't even want to mention anything regarding that."

Simon nodded as he didn't force me to say more. It was pretty sunny outside and I was not liking it one bit.

"Do you wanna spend the day with me?"

I was left speechless for a moment by his sudden invitation.

"I do not want to go where the sun is out."

Simon tilted his head and he seems to be thinking about something.

"What if we go out for some gelato? I bet you'll love that. You won't be able to feel the hot weather with gelato."

"Sure, that doesn't sound so bad." I agreed as he helped me get up from the infirmary bed.

"Let me escort you to your dorm room, you'll probably need a change of clothes." Simon smiled and it was the first smile he gave me.

Now that I think about it, Simon is quite a charming individual. I dare say he is the most beautiful man alive. Just look at his feminine face. I bet he doesn't smile because it'll make many people fall for him.

Simon and I sat on the carriage without talking the whole time, only the sound of crickets and trees were the ones making noises. Despite being silent the whole ride to Leva town, I wasn't uncomfortable or awkward with him. After arriving in Leva town, we managed to catch a lot of attention. Maybe because of Simon's beauty, many people turn their heads just to get a glimpse of his angelic face. With that long blonde hair and blue eyes, he resembles of an 'angel'.

"You're quite popular." I said to Simon who looked at me in disbelief.

"I did notice how many people are currently staring, however, rather than me. I think they're looking at you."

Simon opened the black umbrella he was carrying since earlier. He went near to cover me from the sun,

"Why would they look at me?"

Simon paused and looked at me dumbfoundedly. I guess the question was hard to answer since it took a while for him to say...

"Don't ask me! Maybe you look beautiful, duh!" Simon was blushing.

I thought about it for a while and I realized why people are looking at us.

"I think I know why the people are looking. It's because we look like villagers a and b." I heard Simon's faint sigh.

"What are villagers a and b?" Simon looked like he was ready to go home if I explained to him further.

"They are names for side characters in novels. Most side characters are called in an alphabet since they are not named by the author. However, you do call them by their title first before the alphabet. For example, we are both ladies in the noble society and we are both side characters. The one who gets introduced first is Lady A while the next lady who speaks will be called Lady B and so on." I explained and Simon looked like he gets it somehow.

"I see. But why did you make me a lady?" Simon looked bothered by that.

"I was just setting us an example. I'm not exactly saying that you are a lady." It was my turn to sigh.

Why are men so whiny at every little thing?

"I would rather you say that we're main characters though." Simon nodded to himself.

This narcissist!

"If you want to be the main character, go ahead. No one is stopping you." I shrugged.

"You are right, I'm the main character already though." I rolled my eyes at him.

We walked inside the gelato shop and we were welcomed by the sweet aroma of the gelatos.

"Welcome to AnGelato, what kind of flavour would you two like?" The staff asked us.

Simon was looking around, there's a lot to choose from after all.

"I think I'll have the strawberry swirl. What about you?"

"I'll have cookie dough flavour." Simon replied as the staff took down our orders.

The staff was a fast worker since it only took her about two minutes, and she gave us the gelato. Simon paid her before I could pay for my gelato.

"I have money, you know?"

"Yeah and? I was the one who invited you to go out. It's common courtesy when you invite a lady out, the gentleman who invited her has to pay for her expenses." Simon looked proud of himself, so I didn't even try to bicker with him.

We walked around Leva town while eating our gelato. I noticed that my gelato was melting. I hate the sun!

"Let me get that for you." Simon grabbed my wrist and licked the melted gelato that was on my fingers. "Yours is delicious. You should try mine as well." Simon brought his gelato to my face as I dig in.

"Yours taste good too."

I was startled by his unlikely behaviour but quickly shrugged it off like it didn't happen.

"I know, that's why I picked it." I could smell his pride even though you can't possibly smell emotions unless you're some kind of superhuman. "Hey, wait for me here." Simon went to a near alley.

I wonder what kind of business he had, to be going there. I waited for a minute, however, I can't help that I got impatient. I hate waiting after all. Anyways, why would he go to an alley all of a sudden?

I went to the alley he went to and there he was. Simon was just standing there facing a wall talking to no one in particular.

"I can't believe I just did that to her and acted cool. It's the first time I've done that! Don't look at me with that judgy look! I didn't even know why I did that either!" Simon shouted at the wall.

"Hey man, what are you up to?"

Simon looked at me like he have just seen a ghost.

"Wha— what are you doing here!?" Simon was blushing madly.

"I'm asking you that. Who are you talking to?" I looked around. And I'm pretty sure no one was around.

"I—" Before Simon could say anything someone already beat him to it.

"Hey, young ladies! What are you two doing in a place like this? Are you perhaps looking for fun?"

A bunch of guys who wore a perverted look were next to me.

"Leave us alone. We want nothing to do with you." Simon immediately went in front of me to block the men from getting near me.

Until one of the perverted guys grabbed Simon's wrist. They think that Simon is a woman, so not only was I in danger. Simon is also in danger.

"What if we don't want to leave you two alone? You can't do anything about it, right? You're just a woman and I'm a man."

I was annoyed. As if my veins could pop off any moment from the anger I'm feeling. The other men laughed with him and I couldn't take it anymore.

"Shut the fuck up, you dickhead!" I had a sudden outburst of profanity as I shouted at them.

They immediately stopped laughing. Instead, they looked at me with an angry look plastered on their ugly faces.

"What did you say, little lady?" The man asked me to repeat my words.

"I don't have to tell you twice. An idiotic person like you wouldn't understand even if I repeated myself." I was angry, I can't believe I have to deal with something like this, even here.

"Oh? Are you just playing hard to get? I get it now, you don't have to. It'll be fun, I assure you—" Before disgusting words could even go out of his disgusting mouth, I slapped him across his face.

"Let go of my bitch. Get your own bitch!" I grabbed Simon's wrist from him.

"Your bitch? Who? Me?!" Simon was confused.

"What?! Don't tell me you're one of those sinners."

The disgusting men looked at us with disgust. Talk about irony! Who are the real sinners here? It's them.

Simon didn't even hesitate, he brought out a pocket knife. "I'll cut each of your penises if you don't leave us!" Simon shouted at them and the men stumbled as they ran away.

"It was that easy? I should've brought a pocket knife with me then."

I didn't realise that my gelato melted already. This day just keeps getting worse.

"Why are you even sad, you called me a bitch you know?" Simon looked offended and I laughed at him.

"At least you're my bitch, right?" I teased him and he didn't take it well because he was red all over his face.

"Still! Don't use such indecent language!" Simon looked away with his arms crossed.

What kind of behaviour is this?

"What should I do to make it up to you?"

It seems that I caught his attention with this since he finally looked at me.

"Let me think about it."
