Lost and Found: Eon

Mya's words had reached Eon but his body could not respond in time. As the ground that held his memories burst open— he fell in. Seeing his line of vision come closer to being even with the ground Eon's body finally began to move.

"Ah!" He roared in rage as he swung his hand hoping to hook onto the surface before he fell too far.

I refuse to die here! As if his motivation manifested itself, for just a second as his toes tapped the bedrock. He felt an energy in his body spark. The bedrock caught his foot on the smallest of platforms.

Too small for Eon to notice but he was thankful he had an extra second of life.

In that second it was as if an angel came. Reyna blitzed to him from across the flaming pit and gripped his hand as if the ground itself was dragging Eon down.

She shouted, hauling his body out of the crevice into the air, "Mya! Dante! Go now get the ship ready!"

Reyna's command over the situation quickly brought everyone back from their state of panic. The village with a now organized focus split into three factions. One heading towards Eon's hut, another wrapping the food in leaves and salt, the last following Mya and Dante towards the ship.

As Eon's feet touched the ground Reyna left no room for him to get an edge word-wise.

"I promise you will have answers later just right now you need to listen to what I say." Her voice was shaken.

'Fear. It's blaring out of everyone. Even her.' Eon did his best to remain calm though he along with his village was visibly shaken. Their emotions had no way to stay hidden. Sweat and tears covered their faces.

Eon grasped her face to stop his hands from shaking so violently. "Okay, tell me what to do." His words comforted Reyna who cupped his face in return.

Releasing his face she prompted him to run with her to the ship. During their race, Reyna spoke.

"This is not a natural incident Eon. There will be people and things coming for you on all sides from now on. I heard you ask about your dad-" Reyna's voice changed from scared to concerned, "Yes, this is about them. It's about your mother as well."

'Worry? Dad…'

Eon's thoughts could not help but flash to a brief moment of his infantry before the island. It was hazy at best. He was only 3 when he arrived on the island. In his brief memory, he recalled the blurry face of his father, crying.

They leaped over crevice after crevice dodging the shower of lava as best they could. When the ship's hull came into vision Reyna continued hastily.

"Who your parents are isn't the main concern right now though. This, this assault is about what you are Eon. When you meet people some of them will fear you, it isn't your fault. Some will call you a monster but do not listen to them do you understand me? What you are is something this world has never seen and that is beautiful I promise you." Her voice sounded almost like she was pleading.

As the duo arrived Mya took Eon into her arms and held him tight placing her head on his chest. He could feel her tears streaming. The strength in her arms were built of rage and desperation.

She whispered into his chest, "Eon. My boy, I'm so sorry. We wish we could tell you more but it doesn't let us. It didn't make us that way."

As the tears flood his shirt Dante placed a firm hand on his shoulder. He was visibly shaken holding back tears same as Reyna. With a quivering voice he remained strong, "Eon. You are big and strong now do not forget that. Remember your tutelage, to eat, to stay confident and strong-" His mask began to drop as he huffed and cried still having a grip on Eon's shoulder. "To never stop creating, and don't you ever forget. Always stay true to yourself. Before anyone or anything else, stay true to yourself. As a craftsman and as a man. We will always be proud of you no matter who you become."

Dante reached to his hip grasping a long curved object wrapped in cloth and brought it to Eon's line of vision.

"Your present my boy." Dante could not help but smile regardless of his tears and dread.

"Why is everyone talking like this? Why are you all talking like this is goodbye? Get on the ship everyone! We don't have enough food for the whole village but we'll make it work!" Eon's screams were cut short as he looked at the rest of his villagers. His family.

Those who had not been at the ship already had now arrived. All looked at Eon in sorrow as they packed his ship full of supplies. The children held their parents as they wept. He could not process what was happening. He stammered on trying to plead to them to board. His arms and knees felt weak as his stomach turned.

Finally, he looked to Mya who had been silent since she buried herself in his chest. Her tears were no more. Lifting herself from her position of tears and rage she spoke to Eon.

"We love you Eon, but you need to go now. Before they find you." Loosening her grip on his shoulders she could not leave him with just those words. "I have raised you since a baby, I have seen you stand and fall. Make and break yourself and your inventions. Taught you every language you know, for letting me do that Eon. I thank you. Thank you for letting me be a mother." The emotion in her body as stoic as she tried to appear bled through.

Her touch was still as warm as the day he first felt it. He could not leave them, they were his family.

Mya knew this, so she turned towards Reyna and gave a silent nod. In all the years Reyna trained Eon, through all the broken bones and blood. All the times he would hide from her in the trees or escape to Dante's crafting station. Through all the cold nights she would sleep by him warmed by only the flames he was taught to build. There had never been a moment as painful as what she was about to do.

Stepping towards Eon Reyna hugged the weeping boy and said to him, "We will always be with you. Just don't forget us." Before she could allow Eon's words to change her mind she delivered a blow to the back of his neck sending him into a daze.

Eon's body worn from panic, tears, and fatigue could no longer stand after the damage he was dealt. He crumpled, Reyna, catching him in her arms carried him onto the ship as the rest of the villagers cleared off after stocking.

His vision was now no more than fluff and the sounds around him muted as his body laid on the deck.

'No! Please! Why!'

As the ship set sail Eon watched the smoke spew into the sky. The seas were still as violent and the sky remained blazing asunder. In this chaos of uncertainty, questioning why his family would send him off this way and stay to die. What connections these events had to himself and his parents? Where he would go, how he would find his way back. When he was about to simply pass out from it all. He heard thunderous voices.

"Power to the soul!"

At the moment Eon heard that he grit his teeth and forced every last ounce of power into his chest and in return, he screamed.

"Power to the soul!" His screech lasted until he had no breath left. At this moment he was left alone laid on his back with his tears. As the waves began to subside and the sky cleared. Amid the last remnants of smoke, he saw something. A large cloud of purple dissipated into the sky from where his family stood.

Though he could not bring himself to dare say it or even think it. In the back of his mind, he knew. His family was no longer there.

Turning his head he saw the gift wrapped for him placed next to his totem. He whimpered and sobbed on the floor until his consciousness left him and his body dropped.

As he awoke the sun had come to midday. The heat and bright rays diluted by the clouds Eon sat up groggily. He could finally move again. The instant his memory came flooding back of what events had passed hours ago a new flash came to him.

A flash of his father pleading as he cradled a young Eon in his arms, "Please don't die. Not because of me please." Those were the only words he processed before the weight of his now reality sunk in. Racing towards the bow of the ship he hurled and his knees shook.

'What the hell happened?' He questioned as he spat out the last chunks of his breakfast. His body's sickness left him in minutes but his mental state was still shaken. He stood and looked to the heavens.

"Did you do this to us?" His rage directed toward the gods.

Recalling the phenomena that occurred that day Eon could only come to one conclusion, "Did you do this to me? What did I ever do to you? Why would you take them from me?" He cried to the skies his body searing. He had never encountered the gods before but Mya did not fail to teach him of them.

"Ignis!" Eon's voice shook the ship but fell on no ears. "Lumine! Answer me Allvar, I know you caused the island to split open! Damn all of you we did nothing to you! You tore my home a fucking sunder and rained flames on it!" He spent another half hour cursing the gods until he could think of no more words to say to them. When he was finished he turned his head towards the gift left for him.

Walking towards it he felt nothing but dread but he dared not let that corrupt the last memento he had of his home. Unwrapping the cloth covering it Eon's eyes shared a gleam. A kaskara, cladded in gold with an obsidian cross guard. The blade was engraved with letters that read, Natori.

Eon smirked, both he and Dante knew how fragile obsidian was it was not suitable for battle. This must have been Reyna's idea. He could almost hear her saying to him, "Don't get hit, kid."

Using the cloth to wipe his eyes he smiled and spoke lowly to himself, "I won't. Don't worry about me." He chuckled after the moment passed.

Regaining his composure he stood tall again.

'They would lose their minds seeing me like this. Get it together Eon.' His new resolve took over as he checked the weather, wind, and waterways. Preparing his ship to head to the closest continent. The land of an enemy, Tomi.
