Chapter 28 Something unknown

Rattling sound reached my ears as I looked around myself with a dazed look. The wind that blew me away was nowhere to be seen as I walked desolate in these sand dunes. The sun was scorching like usual, but I could tolerate thanks to my recent exposure to it.

The mirage of the desert made me crazy and lost. I couldn't find my way or a waypoint to locate my friends except for waiting for the night to navigate.

Star navigation was a must skill for us, so I learned it in the north. Fortunately, the stars were extremely bright in the desert and all I had to was wait here and pass the time until night.

However, I was feeling really funny and weird. Usually, when I feel something it tends to occur since I am a gutsy person. My instincts were honed by the countless battles and crises that I have gone through the ages.

" Maybe I should walk a little. This area seemed to be near the caravan stop."

I began to walk around to find the view. Obviously, I wasn't an expert like Agam, but I wasn't stupid either because I took note of the sun and shadow, imagining the overall direction.

Crack*

Suddenly, I heard a cracking noise which was unusual in the desert. You can't find a stone here unless you are in a place where you can see sandstone or stones, but I was in nowhere. The soft sand was still touching my legs and I could tell this wasn't that kind of place either.

That meant only one thing. The warning bell rang in my hand as I grabbed my great sword. The mana of a living beast reached my body I looked magnificent giant scorpion, protruding out from the sands. Its shiny black eyes glanced at me, observing my every single move to detect whether I was food or not.

I could this insect was a smart and aggressive type, but it could tell me I was strong, so it was thinking and winning sometime. Hence, I grabbed my sword and ran to the place where my guts led to. The scorpion seemed to be bewildered at my choice as it dived into the sand and swam after me like it was in the water.

But how could I be caught by a mere scorpion?

My legs and muscles squeezed our incredible strength, ignoring the terrain disadvantage and physics, so that I could run faster. Every drop of my sweat told me to run faster before this scorpion calls his friends and every beat of my heart wanted me to go faster.

I am a brave warrior, but I am not a fool who would a face group of giant scorpions by myself. I rather fight a dragon or a spirit by myself than fight a group of insects. Although scorpions are fine, I can't say for others like giant spiders that dwell in dark forests.

I can't remember how long I have been running around, but I can tell my stamina was running because the sun was going down and I was using my full speed to avoid the apex predator of the desert. The scorpion seemed to be impressed by my resilience as it looked at me with its big black eyes.

It even shrieked that he was acknowledging my resilience. This creature was as smart as Licht's hawk. Maybe not as smart as her, but you can tell it was capable of thinking like young kids.

Its giant tail hovered in the air as it slowly approached when I was panting. However, I couldn't feel any bloodlust in it. Only curiosity unlike before, it gently circled around me, seemingly to scan as me.

" You seem to be smarter than other scorpions that I met my own way. Are you perhaps not from here?"

I opened my mouth, thinking I must be out of my mind because how could it answer, but surprisingly it gave a shriek to acknowledge my words. It proudly showed its tail, glimmering in golden light like it was saying I am different.

I gulped down water, calming down my mind as I looked at it.

" So, do you want to come along? My name is Daemon."
