Chapter 12: Staring Death in the Face

Tara POV

It was safe to say that his parents didn’t like me. That was to be expected, seeing that the alpha’s son brought me into the pack, without you know, asking the alpha!

The ride home was quiet and tense. I didn’t know what to say to Victor to help him to feel better. His hand was resting on the center console and I decided to brave it and reach for his hand. I felt him tighten and I was about to remove my hand from his but then he threaded our fingers together. The gesture was innocent but it sent my heart soaring.

His shoulders relaxed and he allowed himself to become at ease. I was proud of myself. I, Tara Landon, was able to comfort the future alpha. It was a dangerous feeling because I had told myself I wasn’t allowed to feel anything toward Victor. He was not mine to have. My brain understood this concept but my heart seemed to be hard of hearing.
