Chapter 15: Taking a Wound for Him

Tara POV

I walked past the forest line drawing closer and closer to Victor. I came to a clearing and stepped out of the tree line to find Victor kneeling over an unconscious body. He had red stains smeared across his face.

Alarmed, I increased my speed but I stopped short when I noticed another man holding a knife in his hand that had thick red blood dripping from its blade. My heart dropped to my stomach.

Victor looked like he was lost in a trance that had him transfixed on the lifeless body in front of him. He kept mumbling the name ‘Logan’ over and over again.

Then it dawned on me why it sounded familiar. That was his brother. The same brother he had said that he killed. Just like my level before this was one of Victor’s memories. He was remembering the death of his brother but in a more intense and traumatizing way.

Clearly, the test was showing him what happened the day that Logan died—the worst day of Victor’s life.
