Chapter 16: Victor’s Not Here Anymore

Tara POV

The forest around us grew quiet. I could no longer hear the chirping of the birds. Victor and I looked at each other already knowing that something bad was about to happen. This adventure wasn’t over yet.

The ground beneath quaked and I lost my footing falling onto Victor. Somehow he managed to keep us both upright as the trees before us shifted and moved apart revealing the entrance to a cave.

Suddenly, the ground stopped shaking and the trees stopped moving. Victor helped to steady me onto my feet by grabbing my hand. The movement was so natural for him but it sent my heart soaring. I looked down at our connected hands and I couldn’t help the small smile that overtook my face.

He started pulling us in the direction of the cave entrance, but I dug my feet into the ground. He looked over his shoulder with eyebrows raised.

“Why don’t we just wait outside here and see what happens. Maybe the third level is meant to be out here where there is light and no creepy darkness.”
