Chapter 17: Wait, We’re Mates?!

Victor POV

The sensation was strange. I couldn’t put it into words even if I tried.

I was aware of what was happening outside of my mind. I could even hear Tara’s panicked voice but I had no control over my body. I just sat on the floor staring at the bird hovering in front of me. Its eyes held me captive; I couldn’t move.

I felt Tara’s tugs but I couldn’t respond. The phoenix had me in a mind hold. These creatures were known for this. This was one of their many tricks along with the fact that they were nearly impossible to kill.

“Victor, can you hear me?” Her voice broke at the end which only made my chest squeeze.

I tried hard to fight the mental hold the phoenix had on me. The pressure on my skull intensified the harder I pushed back.

‘Foolish boy. Not even a fully fledged alpha yet. You think you can win against me.’ The voice of the bird echoed in my mind.

“I won’t let you in,” I pushed back, “get out of my mind.”
