Chapter 50: Double Edged Sword

Tara’s POV

She was as pale as a ghost as she slept in her bed. We knew that she would struggle with the death of Briar but we never imagined that it would be so soon or this severe.

The healers had sedated her so she could give her wolf some time to heal. Victor said he was fine but I knew that he wasn’t. He had just come to terms with losing his father. I could only imagine what was going on in his head. Life just didn’t seem fair at all.

I walked out of Emerald’s room and headed for the exit of the healing center.

So much had been placed on my shoulders in the short amount of time. This was not at all what I imagined taking on the leadership role would be like.

Our shields as the she-wolves were meant to protect our mates. Now realizing that there was something wrong with them meant dangerous things for the pack. If our shields weren’t working then that would mean we were more susceptible to attacks.

I needed to get to the bottom of this.
