Fates’ POV

The room was covered in rust. A roaring ocean raged on below the cliffs where the room was situated, and from the ocean, all the smells of the cosmos wafted through. Laughter rang through the walls like the buzz of electricity, chasing after it like children at play was death.

The youngest sat first—always the first to arrive, always the fastest. They had not yet learned that in all things. time is the judgment of it all. They did not yet realize that they were subject to it, and that it had all-power over them. But they would.

The eldest joined last, slow like the rust creeping on the walls—slow like the waves beneath the room they now all were sat in. Moss grew somewhere damp and warm, slugs trudged across the table where they all sat around, and none of them looked at one another.
