Chapter 183: Fairytales And Other Things

Tara’s POV

*The next afternoon*

“You know if we’re going to be traveling together, we may as well try to be civil with one another.”

“I am being civil,” I shot back. “I’m not grabbing the steering wheel and landing us both in a ditch.”

The words were hot and sharp, and I listened as Victor tightened his grip on the wheel and took a slow, steady breath in through his nose.

There was a slight moment of pride in me that I got him to both keep quiet and hesitant enough to hold the wheel tighter. Of course, I wouldn’t actually kill us and land us both in a ditch, but he didn’t need to know that.

Victor and I had been traveling for what felt like hours already. We had left that next morning after Jack had shown up. At first light, the car was packed with everything we would need and we had said our goodbyes.
