Chapter 189: The Gatekeeper and Golden Figure

Victor’s POV

I awoke to Tara standing above me. Her face was mere inches from mine, and her finger pressed against plush lips. Her eyes glistened, moving from one eye to another, as she communicated to me to keep quiet, to follow her, to question nothing.

I didn’t know what it was that she was trying to wholly tell me, only that she wanted me to follow her, and so I did. She led me through the halls into another room-the door slightly harder to open and get through than the previous ones—and into the bedroom of a man I hadn’t met yet.

He laid there on his bed, his eyes closed, the soft sound of sleeping coming from him as his arms were crossed over his chest and he lay on his side. I tried to open my mouth and get Tara’s attention, to ask her what exactly it was that we were doing here, but then she pounced before I could.

Her entire body jumped high, cat-like, and landed on the bed as she straddled the man’s legs with a dagger pressed to his throat.
