The following days I felt like banging my head against a wall every time I remembered a certain moment or saw any near wall. It was completely pulling me towards that that tall, calling out to me to meet it head on.
Unfortunately, I didn't do it and instead I sat on the chair behind my desk and dealt with the paperwork again. I didn't pay too much attention to the documents I was looking at because I was more wondering how my plan to flirt a little at the club turned into... what it turned into. Unplanned kiss with first class guy who I had to admit looked quite nice in that white shirt. And not just that. I wasn´t expert on fashion but he was pretty fashionable.
"Rayne!" Dami exclaimed happily when I accidentally answered her call. Maybe I could explain that the incoming call suddenly appeared in my field of vision and before I could think, I answered it because I wanted to move the document on the tablet screen in front of me.
"Hey," I greeted her.
Dami paused for a moment, probably because my expression, but then her smile widened as she continued: "How was your night at the club?"
I raised my eyebrows incomprehension. It wasn't that I didn't understand her question, but I was more surprised that she was asking me such a thing after a whole three days. She definitely didn't have a hangover for that long, that probably wouldn't be physically possible.
"Good."
"You don't sound happy tho," Dami said and I chuckled.
I leaned back in my chair with raised eyebrows: "Was that the reason for this call? You wanted to know if I had fun?"
"No," Dami laughed and after thinking for a short moment she continued: "My friend Izumi asked me about you and she would like to meet you sometime."
I furrowed my brows. Sometimes I was surprised how she knew almost every person I came across. Just like Zayd. But what was crucial now was the rest of the sentence she told me. So I asked, confused:
"Like a date?"
Dami gave me an expression as if she was asking me if I was stupid and then she started looking for something. I rolled my eyes and waited for her to find the item, which happened after a little while and I could see that she was looking at some piece of paper. Snobs.
"Should I give you her contact information? If you want to."
I sighed: "You do realize that I treat girls like a gentleman and this girl lives a pretty rich life so she would ruin me?"
"Wow, that was a long monologue," Dami laughed, ignoring the meaning of my words.
I wanted to say something to her, however, there was a knock on the office door and a hundredth later Chris was already in the room. I raised my eyebrow in a question at him and completely forgot about the call I hadn't finished yet.
"Friend of yours was here and she was saying something about Jasper and the arena."
In a confusion I furrowed my brows before the meaning of his words dawned on me. I immediately widened my eyes at Chris, who was still standing by the door and who had something else on his mind:
"By the way, we're done for today with Hideaki."
I nodded and watched him leave. Then I shifted my gaze to the hologram in the form of Dami, who was looking at me, interested: "What happened?"
I shook my head: "Nothing serious. And feel free to send me the contact. I'll think about it. Or you can send mine to her, instead."
Dami nodded slowly but seemed a little disappointed. It was either because I didn't tell her what seemed to be the problem Chris talked about or because of my excitement to meet her friend. Or it was both.
"Bye," I waved goodbye and Dami did the same before I ended our call.
I had a few more things to do at work, but my mind was focused on the information from Chris. Either Jasper was in some kind of trouble for him to get into the arena or he was just a complete idiot. And why didn´t Mali just text me?
It didn't take long before I had all the work from today off my neck. But the worry wasn't much less, even though it was getting close to my bedtime. Though I wasn't going to sleep anytime soon anyway. Unfortunately.
I changed my dungarees for other clothes and my favourite coat. Then I collected some chocolate bar and a as my evening food and started to leave. I still had time to text to Mali asking her to explain to me what the hell was going on.
After a while, I rushed to the train. I had to take it to the center and then go down to the lowest part of the whole city, because the arenas were located there. Deep in the den of all sorts of dealers, traffickers and other scums of the society. However, there were not only those dubious existences.
I was looking out of the window when I got a new message from Mali. I only left it in a small playback form above my wrist where my communicator was. I could wear it on my hand, behind my ear, or just in my pocket. It was a pretty good device but still not that reavolutionary anyone would expect.
However, I didn't learn much more from Mali's message than what Chris told me, so I kept thinking about what kind of trouble Jasper might be in. I wouldn't be surprised if he signed up a contract of some gangsters.
I was so lost in my thoughts that I almost forgot to get off the train. Fortunately, that didn't happen and I went at the speed of a light to the stop and immediately headed down the nearest stairs. I didn't really want to go on these stairs, because there weren't just few of them, but I had nothing else left. The elevator was only in some of the buildings of those maniacs who have it under their thumb down there.
And so, after a while, I was away from all places where the daylight could reach. There was only a mild artificial lighting all around. Although the term everywhere was probably not entirely accurate, as there were several dark places such as small aisles.
I walked past a few groups of people and looked for familiar faces, which didn't go well for a long time. Either none of my friends were down here yet or they were somewhere out of the center of the action. And if Jasper was going to participate in the fight, he was definitely preparing somewhere in one of these buildings down here.
After a few minutes, I luckily managed to spot a familiar hair. Mali was looking around, obviously looking for someone, too. So I immediately went after her and after a while I could see that she wasn't quite alone. Opposite her stood her boyfriend Elias, who came from our sister planet Vuoria.
As soon as I got all the way to them, I decided to draw attention to my presence with a greeting: "Hey."
Mali turned her face to me and her smile widened: "Rayne! Jasper is total idiot!"
I giggled at her words. She was right, after all. We already knew this fact for ages, it was just that his problems increased over the years. Now I was quite curious as to what it was this time that got us this far. Down.
"Where is he?" I asked with raised eyebrows.
Mali just shrugged as Elias soothed her by stroking her back. Looking at the two, I rolled my eyes and looked around. It was teeming with people from all walks of life just like at the races, but the situation down here was much worse.
This place reminded me of the time when my last relative died. Grandma was pretty sick in the last tons weeks of her life and I was trying to earn some money for the treatment and that's what got me in here. Into the ring.
However, when she died, I stayed here for a while because of the loss. And the money were the second reason. Back then I was working in the garage but I needed quite a lot of money for grandma. I had to solve a few things because of her death. One of them was finding a place in the memorial hall and the other was about inheritance even when that wasn´t much.
