Conspiracy

Just in time for lunch, Giselle had finished sewing the dress to fit Ruby's body. It was a red dress that matched Ruby's eyes.

When compared to Ruby's old dress, the dress she is now wearing feels warmer and more comfortable to wear because it uses quality fabrics that are thick and smooth.

"Milady, I hope you can give me good news as soon as possible." Giselle smiled as she ushered Ruby out of the room. She seems to hope that Ruby will develop her talent in fashion design.

Actually, Ruby was interested in Giselle's offer. However, soon she will get the title of the Queen of Veritas, so various parties will closely monitor all her behavior.

Because of that, Ruby could only do something after thinking about the long term. Being a fashion designer is interesting, but maybe some people would think Ruby is prioritizing her passions over kingdom matters.

Ruby sighed tiredly. Problems like that it's good to be discussed in advance with Matthew. Because, after all, Ruby needed Matthew's approval to do something in Veritas.

"Milady." Dena's voice managed to wake Ruby from her daydream. "The king is waiting for you inside."

Due to overthinking about Giselle's offer, Ruby didn't realize that she was already in front of the palace dining room.

The guards then opened the door for Ruby and let Ruby into the room.

The dining room looked spacious. There was a long table in the middle of the room; if Ruby estimated, it could seat up to twenty people.

At the center of the table, Ruby could see Matthew sitting alone. The man's eyes immediately softened when he saw Ruby's arrival.

[Ah, damn it, I made him wait for me again.]

"Have you been waiting for a long time? I had to waited for Madam Giselle to prepared a dress for me, so I was a bit late." Ruby immediately handed Matthew her notebook as soon as she stood beside the man.

"It doesn't matter. I also just arrived." Matthew pulled up the dining chair next to him and told Ruby to sit down.

"Today, the weather seems not good. The sky was cloudy, so the temperature in Veritas was cooler than usual. Nonetheless, we can't have lunch in the garden behind the palace."

Ruby smiled and wrote, "Eating in the dining room is also not a problem. As long as I can eat with His Majesty, I'm already happy."

Matthew watched Ruby's appearance from top to bottom. He smiled when he realized she was wearing a warmer dress today. "Do you like Madam Giselle's dress design?"

Ruby nodded. "I love it! Madam is truly a talented person."

"However, it looks like the design dress looks prettier because you wear it," Matthew praised his wife; he unintentionally made Ruby blush.

Ruby felt her heart beating faster than usual for uncertain times. Since Matthew marked her as his mate, her husband became more aggressive towards Ruby.

He often compliments Ruby's appearance and always tried to touched Ruby whenever he had the chance. Matthew even deliberately shifted Ruby's chair to be near him.

"Your Majesty, can I talk with you after lunch?" Ruby deliberately asked the question so her heart could stop pounding near Matthew.

"I can talk with you for a while. Is there any important matter you want to talk about?"

Ruby, "This is about the fireplace in my bedroom that turned off during a full moon."

Matthew's expression became more serious as he read Ruby's answer. Since Ruby recovered, Matthew hadn't had time to talk seriously with Ruby, so he had never heard Ruby's opinion about that day.

"How about you come to my study room after lunch? It looks like this topic of conversation is going to be long?"

Besides that, Matthew also wanted to spend more time with Ruby so he could get to know her better.

However, when Matthew asked her to talk in his study room, Ruby looked doubtful. "Am I not going to bother His Majesty if we talk in your study room?"

"Of course not! I just wanted to let you know that you never bother me. After all, when you became the Queen of Veritas, you would often come to my study room. Nonetheless, you better get used to coming there from now on."

Matthew was right. Soon she would become the Queen of Veritas. As a queen, she has to know various kinds of problems in Veritas, from politics to people's conditions in the city and village. Most of that information must have been piled up in Matthew's study room, so she will have to went there frequently to studied Veritas.

"We can talk in your study room later if you say so."

Ruby immediately paid attention to the interior of Matthew's study as soon as she walked in. The study is extensive. There are shelves filled with books on the left side and a sofa on the right. In the middle of the room, there is a desk, which is positioned against a large window so that sunlight can illuminate the desk.

Piles of paper documents were scattered on the table, resembling a mountain of paper that Matthew would likely not be able to finish in a short time.

No wonder Matthew spent more time in the study room than wandering in the Palace. Apparently, it was because Matthew had too much work to complete.

Suddenly Ruby pitied Matthew, who couldn't enjoy life even though he had a high title in the kingdom.

[It must be boring to spend time with piles of paper daily.]

Matthew then asked Ruby to sit on the sofa. After the servants poured tea for them, they immediately left the room so Matthew and Ruby could talk privately.

"You can tell me about that night, Milady."

Ruby exhaled a few times to muster up her courage. She must be careful in expressing her opinion because a presumption can be turned into a conspiracy or fallacy.

"That night, there should have been a maid who lit firewood in my room."

Ruby then told Matthew about her suspicions about the servant. Matthew and the soldiers had thought that the firewood in Ruby's room had died by itself, so they didn't suspect the maid had done it.

After Ruby informed him that the maid had never returned to the palace after the incident, Matthew felt more suspicious and blamed himself for being negligent.

"I'm sorry, Milady. I've been negligent in investigating this matter," Matthew regretted.

Ruby shook her head. "Your Majesty had done a good job. Back then, things were too chaotic, so it's only natural that some details were missed."

That night, Matthew had just returned from guarding the border and was being controlled by Matius for a while, so his body and mind were exhausted. In addition, Ruby's health had also deteriorated, so his focus was divided.

The man had tried so hard, so how could Ruby blame him?

"I will have asked the soldiers to spy on that maid in the village for a while. However, if it is proven that the maid is deliberately trying to harm you, it means someone is trying to kill the future Queen of Veritas."
