Chapter 4- The rise of the one winged hero

All eyes were set on the sky, the monster got knocked to the ground and yet everyone looked only at him, the one that saved their so-called worthless lives.

An hour ago

The exam had just begun and everyone was glued to the screen, Rean and his group ran through the forest in a flash, they already assigned roles to each other while Rean that excelled in wind magic and used daggers with swiftness, was the frontman and was focused on defeating monsters in his way with the help of his teammates and leading from the front, Mike, on the other hand, was in the back protecting from behind and providing covering fire with his fire type magic, while Shon was in the middle using his earth magic to detect around their zone.

The three teens mowed through the forest and displayed amazing teamwork as they kept going for 40 minutes the final boss had finally appeared, and they ran straight to him as they made their way there an explosion happened and he made the entire capital tremble.

"WHAT THE HELL", people across the capital were frightened they already imagined the worst, "IS ANOTHER WAR STARTING", they were shaken to the core, in the side the spectators thought the same but Leon, John, and the mysterious lady exchanged looks as they know that wasn't one of the monsters that she created, "so this is the morons master plan" Leon face palmed as John want to evacuate the people that are close by.

While Asuna was getting worried about the explosion she couldn't do anything but go with her friends and evacuate the citizens, as she wished her friends and Rean to be safe, back in the forest the trio found themselves in a fickle as the smoke cleared and the monster spread its skeleton wings only to be revealed as an S ranked monster nicknamed death dragon, a cruel monster that was part of the demon king's army during the war.

"You gotta be kidding me! from where did that thing even show up", Mike was losing his mind as they dodged form the monsters attacks, "focus up Mike, we have to work together until backup arrives", Shon yelled while he kick the ground and made rocks from a shield for the three of them, the only problem was that Rean ran head on to the dragon.

Rean ran as he pulled out his daggers and leaped forward to dodge the monster's attacks he reached its head and slashed the monster's face a thousand times and yet it didn't seem that the slashes did any damage as the monster's tail hit him with full force, but thanks to his reflexes he managed to minimize the damage the only problem was that he was launched to the other side of the forest and closer to a certain village that was located next to the walls of the capital.

Leon watched the fight and was about to butt in but was stopped when he saw an unknown hooded figure watching from the distance before he went to the figure he turned around, "Hilda you know I never asked a thing of you right? so please just this time go help my son", Hilda was surprised by Leon showing of emotions and she promised to protect the kid with her life as a favor for an old friend.

Rean opened his eyes to see the monster flying straight at him, he got up and launched multiple arrows that were made out of wind magic while he picked up his daggers and jumped on top of the monster, he ran on the monster's back and slashed its neck, the monster screamed so loud that the ground was sneaking its seems like Rean's attack made the monster angrier and she spread her wing and flown into the sky, as she started to set herself on fire and shot he fire into the forest but the flames were intercepted by Shon's earth magic that created a dome on top the forest in the fastest way he could, but the Shon used all his mana to make such strong defensive magic he fall to the ground and was exposed to the monster that remained alive jumped in to attack him, luckily to Shon, Mike was there to defeat the remaining monsters, Mike that wanted to go and help Rean was stopped by the lady that wanted him to take the rest of the examins outside of the forest and she reassured him that she'll bring back Rean safe and sound, and while Mike took the exhausted Shon with him, she proceeded to Reans location.

Rean watched as the monster made her way back to the ground, one thought came up to his mind" it now or never", as the monster stared right through his soul he closed his eyes and unleashed his second type of magic.

You see, normal mages only have one type of magic, but some abnormal mages possess two types of magic, but to this moment not one student in the academy was abnormal up until now, that were just some of the thoughts that ran through the mind of the hooded man, "so there's still some light mages alive" he smiled.

A bright light was shot from the forest into the sky as the wind made the trees blow from their place, the monster was caught off guard as Rean had flown right into her face and cut her eyes out, the lady that reached there was amazed as she saw Rean standing in the sky with one wing that was made out of light magic, light magic that was one of the most unique types of elements.

While on the hill the hooded man was also stunned as he realized that the light mage still exist, but he didn't have time to be amazed as Leon jump him from behind.

"whew human, can't someone enjoy the display without being interpreted?" the man looked at Leon as the hood that covered his face fall off.

"I knew it, that moron of a kid making deals with the devil", Leon began to a new emotion of anger as he walked toward the man who was revealed as a demon, 'sorry principal sir but I can't stay here to talk with you right now I need to go and report to my master about what just happened..."

He was cut mid-sentence as Leon want to attack him but the demon had a backup plan if something like that had happened and many traps were set up and triggered which made Leon step back and gave the demon an ability to vanish from the place, as Leon hit the ground and created a crater with his kick he let his bond with Rean to get the better of him and now the demons know about the fact that there still light mage alive.

But as he beat himself about it, the dragon flew in front of him as Rean chased it down.

"What the..." he was stopped by the woman, "what are you doing Leon she's flying right to the village and to the capital" she snapped him out of it as he also set his sights on the village.

The dragon made her into the village at speed, however, Rean was the fastest in the academy, and with the combination of the light magic and his newly formed wing he was even faster and he managed to intercept her in front of the village, the villagers could do nothing but pray to Rean's success.

Rean and the dragon fought in the sky, Rean didn't give her a chance to unleash any mana attack as he continued to slash her with his now light magic enhanced daggers, but one moment of hesitation gave her a chance to break from the endless slashes and to fly high to the sky as she watched from above she set herself once more on fire to unleash another fire attack, and so it happened as she spat fire from her mouth onto the village but this time Rean used his wind magic to counter the flames as he created a tornado to send the flames back at her.

Although the flames couldn't hurt her they did do something else such as creating a flame screen that made her temporarily blind and giving him enough time to start a counterattack, Rean covered his body with wind and a light aura as he flew towards the fire while he also created a sword from light magic he managed to slash her wings and continued to behead the dragon.

After the body of the dragon fall onto the ground a cloud of sand and dust made its way into the village and was stopped by a wall of ice that was created by Asuna and her father John.

The villagers were stunned by the show and they kept staring at the sky just to see the one who defeated the monster that had threatened to destroy their village the mage with one wing on his back and an aura that was bright as the sun and yet it didn't make their eyes burn the villagers felt like they could look at him houres their savior the one who slayed the dragon and not only saved them he also protected other innocent civilians in the capital, they all looked at him with pride at him and the others that helped him.

Rean who was about to run out of mana started to land and as he landed he vanished his aura and wings only to be jumped by the villagers who each took turns hugging him and lifted him in the air, Asuna didn't wait for her turn and hugged her not so secret boyfriend.

John that was in the village saw both of his friends Leon and Hilda flying toward him.

"You sure took your time coming here, the party is already over, by the way, Leon your kid was amazing I guess he passed as well."

The three talked between them and this time Leon spoke about what had gone down on his side of things which made both Hilda and John mad.

"oh my god! , Leon instead of asking me to help Rean I should've just helped your useless butt", Hilda was furious at the fact that Leon let the one responsible escape. while Leon who was busy looking proudly at Rean turned to her, "Hey, just so you know I could've destroyed that demon if he hadn't placed traps everywhere, you agree with me right john?". he looked at his friend with puppy eyes.

"It doesn't matter now," he said as he avoided eye contact, "at least tell me you figured out what kind of demon he is?".

after seconds of brainstorming the three concluded that the demon was the right hand of one of the ten death knights who served right under the demon king.

"Well..." Leno stopped the conversation to address something important, "That's not that accurate, you two forgot that after the ten changed to four?" he started to cry out laughter, unfortunately for him Hilda and John didn't forgive him yet they both kicked him simultaneously.

"You let him escape! You moron", they said together in an amazing level of sync, that some people who didn't know them would've thought they trained for this for years.

As the three adults continued their talk the royal army arrived at the village to question the school principal, Leon, about the event that went down after a few questions Leon looked behind the military officer and saw peter who made his way towards Rean.

"SAKAMOTO!...", yell which made everyone look in that direction, "YOU COULDN'T EVEN CONTAIN THE MONSTER IN FOREST!, AND YOU EVEN RISKED THE LIVES OF THE INNOCENT!" he tried to look like a saint as kept raising his voice, while that tribble act worked on his lackeys the people with an actual brain already were about to punch his face even Mike who lost his mind, "You little...", he lined up for a punch but his hand was caught by Tess before he did something that he would've punished for, "calm down, it's not worth it, Rean already won he'll get what he deserves"

Tess's words made Mike calm down but this time Peter showed his real face,

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THAT MONSTER DOESN'T COUNT!, YOU ALL PROBABLY SUMMONED HER TO MAKE HIM LOOK GREAT AND SCORE MORE THAN ME!", peter was well aware that his plan failed and backed fired at him, as he tried to salvage some of his honor, Leon interfered.

"So what up?" as he put his hand on Rean's shoulder, "it looks like I need to explain myself again, we have nothing to do with the monster attack, the real monster that was supposed to fight them was killed by someone else, and for now that someone will remain unknown got it" Leon looked at Peter with a knowing look which made him flinch.

"As I said to those nice officers we have evidence that there was no one from the academy who interfered with the test but about you young Peter?", everyone suddenly looked at him and made him back down, Leon walked at him, "can you prove you don't have anything to do with that? with dangering innocent civilians and classmates, you don't mind us checking your bank account, just to see what you spend your money on the last day or the next couple of days right? , Leon would continue if Peter's father hadn't arrived to take his kid home and away from all the questioning.

After the two of them were gone, the villagers, Rean, and his friends celebrated as they should, the first time in history in which a commoner won against a noble in a one-on-one fight, and the news spread around the continent like fire on a field and Rean quickly became the biggest thing in the magical world, every kid wanted to meet him and to be him, as at the same time many people wanted to fight him from all over the world, to fight the one winged hero.
