The Welcome Speech

Kelvin woke up to the sound of church like bells, which rang throughout the entire student residence. It was still quite early in the morning and the new first year students haven’t really gotten used to the school’s early morning routines.

“Ugh, why the hell will they ring such a loud bell so early in the morning?” Kelvin said, in annoyance, as he rose up from the bed. Sleep was clearly written all over his face; he wanted to try and get back to sleep, but a loud and annoying announcement, from the speakers installed in the dorm rooms, followed after the bell.

“All the new first year students should please put on their uniforms and report to the auditorium.”

Kelvin lazily rose from the bed, and went into the bathroom for a quick shower. He entered the shower stall, which had a hot and cold water option installed. Kelvin selected the hot water shower knob without hesitation, and hot steaming water gushed out immediately. A few minutes later, he was done with his shower.

Kelvin proceeded to his wardrobe, opened it, and quickly grabbed his uniform.

The DHA uniform was quite similar to any normal school uniform. For the boys, the uniform comprises of a plain white shirt, a red tie, and a red suit like jacket, which was worn on top. The uniform trouser had a dark grey color, with a black checkered pattern.

Kelvin quickly put on the uniform; he was about to leave his room, but instantly remembered George’s warning about the spiritual construct mask’s 2 hour cool down. He quickly rushed into the bathroom and checked himself in the mirror; luckily enough for him, the mask was still active, and his disguise was intact.

A knock came from Kelvin’s room door.

‘Who could that be?’ Kelvin thought, as he went to open the door. Standing in front of the door, was Carl, Ray, and Nathan. They were all wearing their uniforms.

“Oh, it looks like you’re ready; I thought you might still be sleeping. Anyway, we have to get going.” Carl said.

“Yeah, we don’t want to be late.” Ray added.

“Okay cool, just give me a minute.” Kelvin said, as he rushed back inside. After that, the four of them followed the rest of the first years to the auditorium.

“I wonder what the principal would like to tell us.” Nathan said, voicing out his thoughts.

“I don’t know, probably another welcome speech. Ugh, I would rather prefer a welcome party instead.” Carl replied.

“Hey guys look; it’s Nao.” Ray said, breaking their conversation, and pointing at the girls, who were currently storming out of their dorm building.

They all looked in the direction that Ray was pointing at, and just like he said, Nao was there and she was in her uniform.

The uniform and dress code of the female students, although it was the same, it still had some few changes, which differentiated it from the males. For one, the color of their skirt was light red, with a black and dark red checkered pattern. The female students also wore a red bow-tie, and black knee high socks. Apart from these differences, both the male and female uniforms were basically the same.

“Hey!! Nao” Carl called out, trying to get her attention. Nao on the other hand, gave them a sneering glance, ignored them, and continued on her way.

“Hmm, she ignored us; that’s too bad, I actually think we make a good team.”

“We do?” Nathan asked.

“Yeah, it’s just like video game characters; Nao and Ray are the long range support characters, I and Ken are the attack characters, and you’re the tank.” Carl replied.

“But from Nao’s perspective, she doesn’t see us as such.” Ray added.

The first year students passed through the gate that separated the student residence from the academic area. They then proceeded to the auditorium building, as instructed.

The auditorium hall had a setup, similar to that of a movie theater. The chairs were arranged in a descending order. There was also stage with a podium, and a large screen display behind it.

“Please take your seats.” Sylvester, the head teacher said.

They did as they were instructed and sat down. After they were all seated, the lights in the auditorium hall dimmed down and the welcome speech commenced.

Up on the stage was the head teacher; he was standing behind the podium, ready to give a quick introduction.

“Welcome everyone; just like your dorm masters stated yesterday, the principal would like to officially welcome you all to the demon hunter’s academy.”

“So please, without any further ado, I would like to welcome to the stage, a member of the hunter’s council, and the 20th principal of this prestigious academy, Diane Kings.”

They all clapped their hands as the principal came up to the stage.

“Escorting the principal is our very own student council president, Luke Ferris.”

“Ferris, isn’t that the name of the highest scoring candidate in the exam?” Kelvin asked.

“Hmm, I don’t really know; I was barely listening that time, and I was only paying attention to my name.” Carl replied.

“Yes, that is the surname of the highest scoring candidate, and the guy over there is his elder brother.” Ray answered, pointing in the direction of the student council president.

The first year students clapped their hands as Luke Ferris, the student council president, joined up on the stage.

“And finally, we would like to welcome a well know student of this academy, and a member of the elite Calvary squad; please we welcome the student council vice president Aira Vix.”

And just like before, the first years clapped their hands as the vice president came up the stage.

The principal was the first to address the students. She was a woman around her late 50s; she had a bob cut hairstyle, which was slightly grey in color.

“Just like head teacher Sylvester said, my name is Diane Kings, and I’m here to give you all, a special welcome.”

“As demon hunters, our job is to protect the world from the evil forces of demons. This is the greatest inspiration behind the DHA; to create an environment where demon hunters are trained and honed to perfection.”

“Now as students of this academy, it is highly important that you know the threats and potential dangers that threaten our world.”

The wide screen display, behind her came to life. On the screen were the portrait images of two people; one was the picture of a pale and lean looking man, who had huge dark circles under his eyes. The man also had a rough and poorly groomed hair. In the picture the man wasn’t wearing any shirt, thus displaying a bold tattoo of a skeleton skull with wings, which was drawn on his chest.

On the other side of the wide screen display, was the picture of Kelvin’s real face.
