Marinette came home way later than usual that night. You heard the door slam shut, followed with your sister's nervous rambling.
You opened your door and crept out of your room. "Marinette?" You called softly, knowing your parents were asleep and would disapprove of her being out past curfew.
Marinette stiffened at the sound of your voice. Her mind was swarmed with the memories from the day, and she felt horrible for how she treated you as Ladybug.
She thought that if she approached you as her alter ego she would have an easier time talking to you and maybe get a sort of idea of what was running through your mind, along with her own.
She was so wrong.
Marinette was full of negative emotions but she tried her damndest to keep them away.
Not only did she manage to hurt you again, but her breakup with her boyfriend was really taking a toll on her. She knew it wasn't your fault that she chose the wrong boy to be with. She also knew it wasn't your fault that Master Fu was gone and left her alone with their secrets.
She knew of that. "Go away, Y/n." She knew all of it wasn't your fault, but who else was there to blame if not herself?
The two of you had been interacting like this for years so it came to no surprise that she was pushing you away again.
You first noticed her bloodshot eyes that were slowly swelling, and the slight downward curve of her eyes and mouth. "Marinette, what's wrong? Did something happen?" You asked gently, stepping towards her—ignoring her previous demand.
She hated you.
She hated you for being everything she wanted to be. Marinette couldn't understand why you cared about her feelings after she stomped on yours.
It pissed her off. "Even if something happened Y/n, it's none of your business!" She yelled.
Your eyes widened at how loud she yelled.
"Marinette—you're gonna-"
"God, would you just !?" She screamed, and dammit now she was crying but she no longer cared.
She hated you, she hated herself, she hated how she treated Luka, she hated how she couldn't tell Adrien how she felt, and she especially hated this huge burden of a secret that she was now alone with.
Marinette didn't give you another chance to respond before she was in your face again, "I'm warning you Y/n, just mind your own damn business. You've been trying to ruin my life as long as I can remember so just stop with this loving sister act. It's bullshit!" She sneered, her face so close to yours that you could slam your head into hers with hardly moving if you wanted.
You had enough. Your teeth grinder together and your nails pierced your skin. Anger controlling your every move, you lifted your hands and shoved her hard.
Her back slammed into the stair railing.
"You bitch-" she cried out, trying to stand again.
You stormed over, leaning forward and staring her right in her eyes. "You're done with the sister act?" Your eyes slitted. "Fine. I'm done trying with you. You're fucking impossible."
When you turned, Marinette kicked you on the back of your knees, sweeping your legs out from under you before they got the chance to fully buckle.
You landed on the ground with a loud thud. She charged you, screaming and pinned you to the ground. The back of your head slammed against the floor and when you opened your eyes you were met with Marinette above you, a fist clenched and ready to fire.
You gripped the arm that she used to push down on your chest and held up your opposite arm to block her throw.
"What in the world is going on out here?!" Your mother shrieked.
Air returned to your lungs as your father ripped Marinette off you, still screaming.
Your mother slowly pulled you up by the arm and placed her hand on the back of your head. When you saw the blood trickling down her fingers your eyes went blurry.
The cut on your head stung and a string of curses left your lips.
"I understand the two of you are having trouble getting along, but physically fighting is never okay!" Your father yelled.
"Marinette came in late and I was asking her why she looked so sad and she flipped out at me-"
"And then attacked me!" Marinette screamed, pointing an accusing finger.
"I didn't fucking attack you, I pushed you because you were all up in my face!" You retaliated, just as loudly.
"Y/n! Language!" Your mother yelled and you looked at her with a baffled expression. Parents really pick ridiculous things to be mad about at the strangest times.
"If anyone attacked someone it was you Marinette! You literally were about to punch me in the face!" You yelled and realized you were sobbing. Your mother held your head gently against her chest and let you cry.
Your parents looked back and forth between the two of you, completely lost. The two of you always struggled to get along with each other but it only got worse the older you both got.
"Marinette you know the curfew, why were you coming in so late?" Your father asked and she stiffened.
"Tom, we'll talk about that tomorrow," your mother spoke as she narrowed in her vision on Marinette, "Your sister hasn't even been back in town a week Marinette. If the story Y/n told was true then you really need to try harder to be nice to your sister. Finding you on top of her with a fist in the air is never okay." Your mother's voice was terrifying and the fear in your sister was visible.
Your mother sighed and looked back and forth between the two of you. "Marinette, are you bleeding anywhere?" She asked and your sister shook her head.
"Just sore." She whispered.
**
The night dragged on and your mother forced you to go to the emergency room to check your head for a concussion. She kept reminding you how lucky you were on the way home that it was just a cut and nothing more.
Now, you were forced to walk side by side with your sister as you walked to school. Your parents thought if they knew you were walking together that you would talk it out.
They were wrong, kinda dumb of them if you ask me (but I'm just the narrator so my opinion doesn't matter.)
You both got minimal punishments for fighting, which entailed of the two of you putting in time working at the bakery to. You helped your parents open the store before school and Marinette closed.
Marinette however, was grounded for sneaking in late past curfew. She never did say where she was, which only extended her grounding for an extra week.
You rubbed your eyes sleepily and drank your coffee as you walked. You hated the taste, and your parents wouldn't let you have a monster, but you got no sleep after spending the night in the ER so the coffee would do.
You walked into the court yard and found Juleka and Rose sitting together on one of the benches. Not minding at all that you would be third wheeling, you took a seat with them.
