3 - Ashen Sun

"Of course, you would be joining us."

"The Ashen Sun"

'The Ashen Sun? What type of organization is that? I have never heard of it.'

I am very nervous because I don't doubt they will kill me if I don't join. But even though I am terrified, I still have to ask a few things. After all, I can't just join some organization without knowing anything about it.

"Before accepting your offer, I would like to ask some questions. Is that okay?"

"Well, you don't have an option, but alright, ask whatever you want."

She said that while her amusing smile grew as if she found the situation funny, which it was, at least from her point of view.

"Okay, first, what is this organization?"

"No beating around the bush, huh?"

'Crap, was I too straightforward?!'

When she saw my panicked face, she started laughing as if she had heard a good joke.

"Hahaha, don't worry, I am not mad. That straightforwardness, I like it. And to answer your question, we are a relatively small organization that works when someone pays us to do something."

"And that something is...?"

"Most of the time, we kill criminals."

"...what?"

"Yeah, the State or some rich pay us to deal with someone that has been causing a bit of chaos, and our job is to stop that person, either by killing or catching that person. But in the end, the majority end up dead."

"Then, the accident with the bus was also a mission sent by someone?"

"No, it was something more personal."

'Something more personal?'

"Are you saying that you burst a bus full of students and sent them to the hospital just because of something more personal?!"

"Yes, the thing is that we don't care too much about collateral damage. Of course, we try our best not to do much damage, but if there isn't any other option to comply with our mission, we will do it."

'So they kill people under an order, and they act as if the damage they can cause is not their problem. So is this something like a hitman organization? But something doesn't fit...'

"If this is a place where trained people are, why would you want me to join?"

When she heard that question, she smiled as if she had been waiting for it.

"Because I wanted to."

'...what?'

"Could you repeat, please?

Her smile grew more as I asked her that.

"Of course, because I wanted to."

After I made sure that I didn't hear it wrong, I was speechless. What she is saying is that she wants me to join an assassination organization, for no reason?!

But no matter how much I wanted to complain, I wasn't able to do it, as my life was at stake right now. And the only thing that I could do right now was to ask my last question.

"My last question is, what will happen to me if I join the Ashen Sun?"

When I asked that, the mood suddenly turned serious, and as I sensed that I became stiff. Finally, the Boss started to talk.

"Well, I am going to be straightforward. You won't be able to go home and see your friends and family for a few years. During the time you are here, you will be training while doing missions, first, you will go with other members, and after I consider your ability to be worth enough, you will be doing them in solitary,"

When I heard the part about not going to see my family my heart stopped. My parents always work too much, and I had to take care of my sister. If I were not there, what would happen to her?!

"I know you are anxious about your sister, but don't worry, she is with your grandparents."

As I heard that, my body became less stiffened, and knowing that if I refused I would die, I made my decision about this organization.

"Alright, I accept your 'offer' of joining the Ashen Sun."

After I said that, the ambient relaxed, and a small smile appeared on the Boss's face.

"Good. I am going to be honest with you, it is going to be hard, and sometimes you will repent not dying here, but I hope you overcome all that."

'You are not making it any better.'

"Then, as an official member, you will be given a room where you will be staying for the time being. I will tell you in another moment when your training begins. Go out, 07 will guide you to your room."

When she finished speaking I started walking toward the door, when I heard from behind.

"Welcome to the Ashen Sun, Aaron."

"Yes, thank you."

'As if I had any other option.'

...

In the hall was 07 waiting for me, and spoke to me with a warm smile as soon as he saw me.

"Congratulations on getting in, I hope we get along well."

"Thank you, me too."

'What happened to him? Earlier he was like an emotionless doll and now he is treating me as if we were best friends.'

While I was thinking that, his words snapped me back from my thoughts.

"I am sorry for how I treated you the other times. It's just that I didn't know if you would be staying or you would be instantly killed as soon as you entered the office."

He was talking with an awkward smile as he told me those things. This made me think that if I had chosen the other option, I would be dead now. It is hard to digest.

"Well, but let's not talk about that, after all, you survived! I hope it stays like that."

He muttered the last part, but because we were close I heard it perfectly, and it sent a shiver down my spine.

We kept chatting until we reached what he said was my room. After being left alone, I started thinking about when will the Boss call me to start training. What type of training will it be?

When I finished thinking about that I checked what was inside my room, and saw a standard room, not too big, not too small. There was a desk, a bed, some shelves, and a wardrobe that when I opened it, was filled with clothes of my size.

'Is it her doing? Did she know from the beginning that I would accept? Crazy.'

With these thoughts in mind, I lay down on the bed and the tiredness from before came rushing back making me fall to sleep.

-Boss POV-

When Aaron left, the room fell silent until I spoke to the air.

"What do you think of your new companion?"

A girl's voice answered me back from nowhere.

"I can't say too much, but he has some guts."

A smile appeared on my face as I heard what she was saying, and that smile grew more when I asked another question.

"Do you think you will be able to get along?"

"Probably yes, after all, both of us are here even though we don't want to"

After saying that, the girl's voice disappeared.

"Are you there?"

After seeing that there was no response I started to laugh out loud.

"Hahahaha, she hung up, huh?

'Anyways, I expect big things from both of you, Aaron, Rachel.'
