5 - Start of training

Beep beep beep-

"What?! Who is it?!"

With the shock of an alarm ringing near me, I woke up and searched for the sound until I finally found the damn phone on the desk. I took off the alarm and saw the hour.

'Really? 7 am?'

As I was reflecting on why there was an alarm on the phone, I saw that there was also a message. The one who sent it was 07. It said something I didn't like at all.

[Have you woken up with the alarm? I guess that you have. Get ready with the military suit that is in the wardrobe. I will be there in 5 minutes.]

I also saw that I received it 3 minutes ago.

"Crap!"

Without bothering in reply, I went to the wardrobe, and between all the clothes, I found the gray military suit. I wore it as I thought it was done.

While I was fastening my shoelaces, I heard a knock on the door followed by 07's voice.

"Aaron, are you done? We are going to start training."

"Yes, I am done! I am going out right now!"

As I was getting out of the room, I saw myself in the mirror, and I must say I looked good in the suit, as it was along with my gray eyes.

When I entered the hallway, 07 was there in the same uniform. He looked at me and then nodded his head.

"What happens?"

"It is nothing. I am just amazed that you were able to get it right the first time."

"It wasn't that difficult, though."

"I am glad then."

"?"

When he saw my confused smile, he just smiled and continued talking.

"Let's go. We are going to start your training. I will explain what we are going to do when we get to the training field."

After saying that, we started walking toward where I guessed the training field was.

After a walk in which we were chatting, we reached the training field. And after being here for a whole day, I am still amazed at the size of this base.

I guess this is underground due to the lack of windows, but it made me curious about where we are. Are we still in the United States?

07's voice interrupted my thoughts.

"We are here. Welcome to the training field."

What welcomed us was a giant room. On one side, there were several workout machines, and on the other was a broad space.

"Let's not waste time. I will tell you how we will do your training. I will be honest with you, you will hope you are dead after this training."

"How encouraging..."

"It is simply the truth. Anyways, your training consists of 3 days a week of physical workout, and the other will be distributed by hand-to-hand combat and mastery with arms. Most of it with the intention of killing."

"!!!"

When I heard the last part my heart started beating too hard, as if I had forgotten what type of organization this was.

"Aaron. Don't forget that although Ashen Sun accepts a variety of requests, the majority are about killing people. You have to make up your mind before the time comes, or it will be even harder."

07 serious voice coupled with the contents of his speech made me stiffen up.

'That is right. I have to make up my mind. But it is easier said than done.'

Sight-

"Anyways, about today's training. You will be doing a fitness test so I can know if I have to modify the actual training. Are you ready?"

"Yes, I am."

I wasn't.

It started well with a flexibility test, I have a fair amount of flexibility, so I think I did it well. Up to that point, it was alright, but what came later, I wasn't prepared.

07 requested me to do the maximum sit-ups in a minute, then push-ups, and finally push-ups. After that, 07 gave me a minute of break. Then the horror came.

After the break, I had to run 2 miles as fast as I could. Later I discovered that there was also a pool, specifically an Olympic pool, I was astonished. But 07 didn't give me any chance to rest and I had to swim 200 meters nonstop. To the record, I almost drowned.

And after that, there was a forced march with a 15-pound rucksack. At that point, I forgot what I was doing and why I was doing it. The last thing I remembered was that I fainted.

And now I am in the infirmary getting checked by Rebecca.

'Seriously, why was there a forced march? What is this, the military? Are we going camping?'

"Well, everything is okay. You fainted due to exhaustion. You have to take care while doing the training to not become useless."

"And what happens if I become useless?"

"You die:"

'I expected that.'

As she saw my troubled expression she started laughing while looking at me as if I was some kind of cute pet.

"Well, don't worry too much. If you keep up with your training and don't exceed yourself you will be fine."

"You should say that to 07"

"What does she have to tell me?"

Speaking of the devil. 07 appeared through the door and stood there.

"How is he, doctor Rebecca?"

"He is fine, he just needs to rest today, and tomorrow he will be as if nothing happened."

"That is good, as tomorrow he still has training."

"I would have training even if I wasn't able to stand up anymore, right?"

"No, if that was the case, we would kill you."

"..."

"Anyways, can you stand up?"

"I think I can."

"Good, the Boss wants to see you."

What he said made me have a perplexed face.

'Why does the Boss want to see me? Couldn't she tell me what she needs with the phone?'

While I was thinking that, I got up from the bed and almost tripped, but I managed to sustain myself.

I reached the door and left the room saying goodbye to 07 and Rebecca. Then I started walking towards the Boss's office, and even though I almost fell a few times, I managed to reach the office.

I thought I heard some voices inside the room.

'Could it be that she is with someone? Should I knock or wait?'

After thinking about it for a brief moment, I decided to knock on the door. After all, she told me to come here.

Knock Knock-

"Go ahead"

When I heard the Boss's voice I entered the room and saw the Boss with someone. As I looked at the person in question, I was surprised to see it was my classmate, Rachel.

She stopped talking and turned around and glanced at me before continuing to speak.

"As I was saying, it is too soon to do it. Please reconsider it."

'What are they talking about? It is too soon to do what? It seems that Rachel is against it.'

But before going further with those thoughts, I decided to salute the Boss.

"Good evening Boss. 07 told me that you called for me."

"Yes, I called you. I heard you faint in today's training. Is your body okay now?"

'She called because of that? Is she perhaps worried?'

"Yes, my body is okay. I just need to rest and tomorrow I will be in a perfect state."

"Good, I was afraid I had to kill you on the first day."

'Worried my ass'

"Anyways, that was not the only reason I called you. I am going straight to the point. Five days from today, you will be going on your first mission."

"...wait, what?!"

"Don't shout at me."

"I am very sorry."

With that cold voice, I regained my senses and quickly apologized, as I wouldn't like to die due to an unintentional shout. But my mind was still on what the Boss had told me. I am going on my first mission in five days. But aren't I very inexpert in every area related to assassinations?

'What is the Boss thinking? How can I, who fainted from a training test, actually do something like a mission?'

"Boss... Is there something else about the mission I should know?"

"All I will say right now is that you will be doing it with Rachel. I will tell you the rest two days before the mission."

'I will do the mission with Rachel? Has she also joined Ashen Sun? If she has done it, why would she send two novices on a mission?'

Then, Rachel, who had been quiet all this time, suddenly started talking to the Boss again with a pleading look.

"Boss, please think about it again! He has just started training, he isn't prepared enough to do this!"

"Well, although it is true he has started training today, from the report of 07 I can say that he can do fine."

"But Boss-"

"Rachel."

That was all she needed to say to make both of us tremble. She spoke with a several times colder voice than she spoke to me earlier when I shouted at her.

"Both of you, go to your rooms to rest. Tomorrow you will continue with your training."

"Yes, Boss."

"Y-Yes, Boss."

Saying that, we both exited the room, and as I was going to talk to Rachel I saw her already walking in the direction I guess her room was.

'Has she also got the disease of not saying goodbye?'

With that thought in my head, I went to my room.
