14 - First mission [6]

I was walking down the street going toward the company building at the request of Rachel.

Even though I was walking relatively fast, there were still several minutes left until I finally reached the company, so I started wondering why Rachel's message sounded so urgent. However, no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't obtain an answer since the only thing I knew was that Rachel was supposed to be busy today.

I was going quite fast, and since it had already been some days since I came here, I was a little more used to the streets, so I could go quickly without getting lost.

While I was having those thoughts, I suddenly saw something that made me stop in my tracks. The moment I saw it, my head turned blank and all types of thoughts disappeared from my mind, with the exception of one.

'There is no way...'

The thing that made me freeze on the spot was nothing more than someone's figure. But it wasn't some random person. I couldn't confuse that person, even though she had her back turned. I couldn't mistake that black hair like the night.

It was Olivia, my sister.

'No no no, it's simply impossible. There is no way she would be here, and she would have no reason to be here.'

At the same time I was thinking all that, I was approaching that person as if something had possessed me. And when I realized that she had turned the corner, I ran toward her. My thoughts were extremely chaotic, I couldn't think properly. What would I say to her? 'Surprise, your brother, who you thought was dead, wasn't actually dead?'

As I was getting closer and closer to the corner, I could sense my heart beating faster and faster. My head was clouded and I felt as if I could cry at any moment. A part of me knew I shouldn't be like that before confirming it was her, but I was so overwhelmed by emotions that I couldn't rationalize correctly.

When I finally turned the corner, what I found was... nothing. There were other people, but not anyone like her. I started to panic. I approached several people to ask if they had seen her, but no one had seen someone like that.

'I guess I have started to hallucinate, huh? Has this been too much for me?'

After a while, I finally accepted that in reality I didn't see her, and since there was no way I could mistake that black hair of hers, I reached the conclusion that to deal with the stress I had been feeling lately, I had a hallucination about one of the most important people to me.

Having realized that, I noticed what state I was in, so I decided to sit on a bench for a while until I got better. To be honest, I felt like crying, but the tears wouldn't come, so after sending a message to Rachel, saying that it would take me a little more time to go, I just sat on that bench.

...

About an hour later, I finally entered Silverex's building, went through the reception, and got into the elevator. In that minute before reaching my floor, I thought about what had happened earlier. Should I tell Rachel about it? Should I not? Such thoughts roamed free in my mind. But when the elevator's doors opened and I stepped outside, I decided not to tell Rachel about the possibility of me having hallucinations.

There was no particular reason to not tell her, but this wasn't also something important enough to mention yet.

'That's it. If it gets worse, I will say it to her.'

Having resolved myself, I went through the hallway toward Rachel's room. When I arrived, I knocked on the door, and almost immediately, Rachel's voice came from the interior.

"Enter, and make sure to close the door afterward."

I entered and closed the door as she asked. When I finally looked around, all I could see was a room exactly like mine, with Rachel sitting on the edge of the bed.

Although she was looking at me, it was as if she was in deep thought.

"What happened? It seemed quite urgent."

When I talked to her, she snapped out of her thoughts, and then proceeded to sigh, before speaking to me again.

"I am not going to beat around the bush. You remember Kyle Beck, right? The CEO of Silverex? Our objective?"

I did remember him, but when Rachel mentioned the word objective, I couldn't help but flinch a little. But either she didn't notice, or she didn't care, because she continued talking.

"Well, the thing is that that person requested a private talk with both of us."

When she said that, my eyes widened in surprise and my head was flooded with questions.

'That Kyle Beck wants to meet with us? Why? How does she know it, and I don't?'

As if guessing all my thoughts, she sighed again and started talking.

"First of all, I don't know why the CEO would want to have a 'private talk' with the two new employees, but I know that we can't refuse. You must be thinking, "Why do I know it and you don't?" That is because I have seen the email we have received where it says it to us, an email which you haven't noticed."

As soon as she finished that last sentence, I took out my phone from my pocket, looked at the emails, and, as she said, there was an email where it was explained that we would be talking with Kyle Beck on Saturday evening. It also said that more details would be provided when the said date approaches.

"Anyway, I didn't call you here to just tell you this. I don't know why this is happening, but this isn't something normal, so we have to be careful. And what I mean by being careful is that we will have our initial plan prepared for Saturday evening. Also, be cautious about the strange behavior of the people or strange things that happen from here to Saturday. If everything goes well, on Saturday this mission will be completed. "

I was astonished when she said that this mission would end on Saturday, and since today was Wednesday, that meant that there were only 3 days left. But for once, I didn't let that surprise show on my face.

After some more talking and preparations, I left the room and went to my own room, with one main thought in my mind.

'Only 3 days left...'
