Chapter 2

In the morning, students were entering in the class. It was normally for the class to be full of students because it was their first days they were all ambitioned to finish the course. Because of the new environment they all sat where they had sat on the previous day. Onan who usually keen with his studies he had reached in the class long before everybody else sat on the seat that he was seated on the previous day studying the a book that was of the unit they were starting with it in the day.

Suddenly a second year student called Tony walked to Onan and asked while pointing the seat beside Onan, "Here is where Sharon was seated yesterday?" Onan being new to the campus and did not yet know people faced Tony and responded friendly, "Yes!"

Bull was a young high school kid's stuff it was exemplary to campus, Tony friendly sat on the seat faced Onan who faced him back curiously. Tony was a rich kid spoiled by his parents; out of his pocket, he took out a thousand shilling note, pointed it to Onan, and said, "I would like to buy your sitting position."

Onan with his broke state he could not reject the deal though Sharon lighted a spark in him. To hide his broke state to prevent people lowering him he had to be smart he turned round the class silent where he tones of empty seats in the class where he was confused where to go. Immediately Sharon slowly walked into the class where Tony noticed where he had speed up Onan's desertions. Where he asked, "Are taking it or not?" Onan noticed her when he faced him where acting as nothing arranged he took the one thousand shilling note and walked out of the seat.

At least this time Sharon did her best where the lecture entered in the class immediately she walked in. she went to the seat where she was seated on the previous day and sat where Tony admired her on the seat beside her. Onan walked to his new seat having a week lunch bought to him.

When Shoran finished settling her things and kept the unit exercise book on the table, the lecture had also finished his book settling. The lecture immediately he started lecturing Tony with his pride turned to Sharon where he whispered, "Hello Sharon how was your night?" Sharon who was not expecting that slowly faced Tony.

Remembering the previous meet with him and the way he tried hitting on her she giggled and with a low tone, she responded, "It's you again?" At that time the lecture was lecturing but the was the two had sunk into their conversation, that they were trying to make it private by whispering all the heard from the lecture was chatters. Continue with their conversation Tony replied,

"Why are you so harsh on me, not even a single question that I have asked you, you have answered me?"

"It was your first impression."

"Am sorry but the way I relish you made me lose control of myself."

"You are so confident on your words. Aren't you supposed to be in another class?"

"Yes, but am not lost when I am with you."

Sharon was touched by the words where she could not withhold herself and giggled loud. The lecture was annoyed by the act where he shouted, "You two get out of my class!" Everybody in the class faced Tony and Sharon where they faced the lecture with innocent face. The lecture added, "I cannot tolerate that. First you guy you are a second."

Tony as a gentleman wanting no more problems on Sharon he stood took his stuffs ready to walk out of the class. The lecture at the time was burning up where he said, "You to lady!" where Sharon faced Tony and Tony faced her back. Tony having the guilt of casing trouble he said to her "Let me apologise with a coffee." Sharon as told by the lecture she took her stuff and walk out the class following Tony. Onan at distance could not believe her dream girl was walking out of the class with that guy that looked as if he had already won her.

Lunchtime students of the campus were moving up and down holding their meal others had join into groups where they sat together while eating, chatting what was currently trending others were gossiping. One of the seats in the mess Onan was on alone on a table busy on his phone. A free WIFI was new to Onan with his new smart phone that he had struggle to buy could take his mind off this world. YouTube had so much videos. Before him on the table, there was a soda and a muffin cake. He had to celebrate of the little money that he had made after selling his seating position.

Suddenly Sharon sat on the seat beside Onan and said, "Hae!" Onan who had not expected the surprise faced her and as usual, his heat thumbed due to her being close to him. But he had to hide it all and because it was frivolous, "Hae!" he replied.

The way Onan answered it was weird but Sharon did not considered it because she had surprise him. Sharon who was in need of talking to him she staring a conversation by saying, "Am sorry for yesterday everybody in the class laugh at you," With a vivid voice he replied, "It was I that I was meddlesome to you…" but before finishing the sentence he noticed he had said it all wrong and his voice was down. He cleared his throat and said in new fresh gathering all his courage, "It was nothing Sharon."

Sharon she was a rich girl but she respecter people. She continued, "I thought you were angry at me but if you are cool is ok."

"Am cool!"

"You know I thought of that because you changed your seating position today."

Onan giggled at least breathe out the heat that was generating all over his body and searching for words to tell her. The giggle was odd to her; she was not used to fake feeling so she interrupted the giggle by asking,

"What's wrong?"

"I did not change my seating position because of you; I changed because I found the seat was occupied."

"Are you sure you found your seat occupied."

That is the moment it struck him that she had left the class with Tony who had bought his seat so it was highly mention that to her to make their conversation long. Onan for a moment paused thinking the way he had already made a poor impression to her by lying to her what she knew. Sharon was an introvert person and she had started losing words to tell Onan so off her seat she rose and said, "Have a nice day Onan!" where Onan replied, "You too." Then she walked away.

As Sharon walked away Onan gazed at her having turns of fantasy and overthinking that Sharon liked him only because he noticed that Sharon knew his name. Sharon in the whole campus that was the first name she knew not because of being forced and also Onan it was the first person that she approached and talked to which was very unusual to her. Onan was nearly to give up on her but this moment changed everything about Onan.

As Onan was admiring on her as she slowly and gently walked away a lady sat on the same seat that Sharon was seated joined the admiration where she commented, "She truly pretty."

This disrupted Onan's fantasy where he faced the lady in a gesture that was curios. The lady faced Onan in a happy face and said, "Yes she is truly pretty, everyone in the campus is gazing on her looks." Trying to sound innocent and different from other guys he replied,

"My mind was not on her."

"Ok whatever you say I will go by it further more am not here to judge and its normal."

For a moment, Onan faced the lady silent not knowing what to say next because he knew a talk of a wise person and trying to play innocent will prove her first point. The lady broke the silent monotony by stretching her hand shake to Onan while saying, "Onan am Anna your class mate."

After the lecture made a joke on Onan, he was made a famous but he did not know that so it shocking that the lady knew his name. Anna was extrovert lady so she did not waited for him to responded, she dropped out what had brought her to him by saying, "During class time I say you were active so I wanted to ask you can we form a discussion group with you?"

This discussion groups were beneficial to campus this was not like high school that one may pass by self-reading. Campus education was a bit hard and complicated so as one to pass he/she should be in-group discussion, Onan knew this because somebody had stolen for him the idea. Knowing the lady was ambitious about life he responded, "That's a good idea, am in."

Anna took out her phone while saying, "You should give me your number," where Onan gave her as she was saving to her classy phone. It seemed that Onan in the whole campus was broke. After saving the phone number Anna stood and said, "I will text you and please don't let her consume your very being." Then she walked away leaving Onan with questions that he could not asked because Anna walked away too quick blocking the probability of a question.

In the evening Onan walked out of the library. He was ambitious and staying late in the library was nothing to him because he was used to it in high school. As he was walking on the empty corridoes of the campus, he saw Sharon at a distance wall locker. Sharon as a normal woman not build for some other task she was trying lock the locker but due to non-maintained state off the campus things, it needed a lot of strength.

Onan was behind the corner peeping on her; stuck in a dilemma to either go back in the library or go talk to her where he knew he did not had much to say. Sharon's locker hedges were rusty and she could not assume that and go to home because the campus was full of kids that could fully depend on themselves there was also theft where you could not leave your things displayed. This is a common fact about every campus no one trusts hi/her neighbour with his stuffs from clothes to electrical gadgets.

Onan after a long thinking he had to make a move as a courageous gentleman. Slowly he walked towards her having the drive that Sharon like him because she knew his name. this have been sometimes problems of sometime reading wrong impressions knowing somebody's name nor laughing to his jokes does not mean much.

He went and not knowing what to start with bang the locker where it fully closed. To him it was nothing more but to Sharon it was something superb. Immediately she turned on him smiling and in joyful look and said, "Thank you Onan. " Onan pretending he did not needed the trophy he responded, "Its ok that was nothing." The common word people who deep inside they desire trophies of what they have done and they want to act cool respond.

Continuing the conversation as she was locking the locker she asked, "Where were you?" This was a question that was direct not those questions that made his heart thumb; he responded clearly, "I was in the library." After finishing locking the locker, she faced him where it was heat up moment to him but he had to play cool. Sharon replied,

"Are you going home now?"

"Yes! And you?"

"That's nice coz I have somebody to walk through this empty corridoes."

Onan did not understand the reply where he faced Sharon thinking thousands of meaning of her words that made him pause in silence. She noticed her words were difficult for him to understand so she smiled held his arm pulled him while saying, "Am also going home now." Onan who was waiting a touch from her he complied and acted as if he was a piece of paper blown by the wind to the direction it needed.

The next moment Sharon and Onan were standing beside the road silent. Suddenly a cab stopped before them. This was an order from Sharon, her house was close to the campus but she had a lot of money to speed so it was pointless to walk to home. She walked to the cab leaving Onan standing at the same position. Cab was not his thing; from his hometown, he knew that cab was something of rich people. He back up and waited for his normal use that he was used the public transport.

Sharon instead of shutting the door of the cab she faced him and said, "Come in let's go!" He was stuck at time thinking if he could reject the nice offer where he could fell her sweet scent that at the time was imprinted on his thoughts or to go and speed his one weak budget by a car drive. At least sometimes, man losses his egos and wise men fall due to love. He confidently walked to the cab ready to pay the bill.

The concept of the one who called out the other in a date should be the one who is supposed to pay it was a concept all men understood and some ladies that were considered wise and mature. Immediate the cab stopped beside the gate to Onan's house that was located in slums, she paid the cab. Sharon was a curious lady she wanted to know this home that Onan was leaving in, in slums as he previously said in the cab through their short weird talk.

He walked out of the cab walked to the gate where she was to follow him. Onan though he was from a humble back ground but back in high school he used to cate credit of the most cleanest and tidiest student, so he confident to let her in in his single room house.

Sharon slowly walked out of the cab not knowing where to step because the place was full of litter everywhere she was not used to it. Onan rushed to the gate opened the gate waiting for her to walk in. Sharon ready to walk in Onan's she was hit by the small of the environment that was normal to the people of the area. She rushed in the car and asked the cab driver to drive away leaving Onan hanging. For a moment, he remembered the saying that says fake it until you make it and here he fully displayed to her he was of low class than her.

Next day at lunchtime Onan was solo seated on the table of the campus mess. The whole day he had been acting weird, he did was not active in class as he used to be. Anna walked and sat beside him where he had noticed something weird about him. This was caused by the last scene that was playing over and over in his mind how Sharon left the previous day. But what gave him at least a break it that Sharon had not attended morning class but his over thinking he thought that he was the reason why she did not attended class.

Onan about his secret that he was living in slums got out did not bother him what stressed him up is that he knew he had burn all the possibility that Sharon will ever like him. Anna was an open-minded lady plus the fact she took Onan as only a class ate she asked, "Why is it today you are acting weird?" Onan trying to hide what was back of his head he replied, "Nothing! Am normal."

Anna giggled as if she had read him and replied, "Or is it that because Sharon your cushy is not in today." He quickly rejected that fact by saying, "I have never ever had a crush nor like her." Anna for some time she had read his reactions whenever he was close to Sharon. She responded,

"Don't reject the fact; do you know there is the power of a tongue?"

"Anna can we talk something else, may be something about the group discussion."

Anna scoffed then replied, "Ok!" before she finished her words Sharon appeared behind Onan and said, "How are you Onan?" for a moment everything in his body stopped where his behaviours could not hide that he liked her. He faced him where Anna was too smart to know there was something between them, she paused facing them.

Onan replied, "Am good, what about you?" Sharon who looked happy as if her week was wonderful she replied, "Am good, I wanted to offer you a lunch." This was odd to Onan because of the way she reacted the last time that they were together. But he was taught it was rude if somebody offered you something and reject plus he was hangry and had no money for the campus mess budget. He happily responded, "Its ok."

Onan forgetting that Anna is a human and they were in about to enter in a serious conversation he stood ready to go. Anna she knew Onan and the way he liked the girl so she understated the fact she was to be left hanging though it is something rude even if you don't clearly don't know the person.

But Onan before he walked away he made sure he was cool with Anna where he said to her, "Will you excuse me!" though he was only going to take yes as the answer. Anna was a good-hearted lady who was the most understanding person she joyful replied, "Go have fun," though she was in need to talk to him. He quickly rushed towards Sharon who was walking away.

A rush of adrenaline helps in making conversation easy, Sharon and Onan walked through street of Nairobi chatting and laughing as if they long knew each other. She felt guilty of what she had done the previous day and this was the way she could apologise to this guy that she only like. They were young and youth full ready to explore and this was the time Sharon was free from her father's hand and Onan this was the best time of his life being free with the lady he liked.

Sharon for a long time she had never trusted anybody by the look she liked Onan because of his cool acts. Most of the times a high-class lady interact with a low class guy, the guy always humble himself. In the streets of Nairobi the walk, eating streets food that Onan was used to them but to Sharon was magical. The moment between the two of them was so magical where they did not noticed time going and it was enough to make Onan to forget studies.

The magical moment was cut off when as they were passing through a street where streets robbers stopped them. This was a story that they both heard because back to Onan's rural home theft was not a fairy tale and Sharon where she used to walk no one was in a need to steal small things like phones.

One of the robbers who was holding a knife said, "Let's do this in a simple way handle over your phones and walk away." Onan as a man and due to the work that he had done during the long holiday before he join the campus he could not believe that they town boys would fight him. He converse to Sharon with a low tone, "Walk back a bit."

Sharon complied by slowly walking back where one of the robbers noticed his braveness and said in pride, "You thing you are the only man here?" Onan replied, "No one is taking my phone." One the robbers walked closer to him where Onan thinking he wanted to attack him he threw a punch. Where suddenly the whole crew of robbers rushed to him where they started beating him.

Sharon who was behind them stopped the attack by shouting, "Stop, ok here is my phone." The robber who at the time they had forgot her, they turned back where they fund her showing them her 50k phone. The robbers who were youth that were not in need of killing took the phone plus her back. Then they turned on Onan who was laying weak on the ground and robbed him phone and money and rushed away leaving the two friends stuck at the scene with nothing.
