Suffocation

Tayla POV

As I slowly peeled my eyes opened, I met gaze with Alexander who was staring at me intently. Confusion and fear clouded inside my mind and I jolted up in shock.

"Wh….. what are you doing?" I stammered, finding myself lying on the plush mattress.

He reached out for me, stretching his long hand towards me before I would fall down.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you like that," he assured me, his voice calm and soothing in my ears.

Before I could grab his hand, my legs gave away beneath me and I fell to the ground. The shock of the fall left me breathless with my back hurt.

In a blink of eye, I found Alexander at my side helping me to stand up.

"Are you alright? I didn't mean for you to fall just like that." He said, his touch was gentle as he helped me stand up.

I felt my cheek burn red in embarrassment. "I am alright."

"I actually found you fast asleep in the dining room when I returned back," he muttered.

I sighed. "I must have fallen asleep because I didn't sleep well last night."

"It's alright," he said.

"I should start going home now. Thank you for everything," I slowly began walking towards the door and he followed me. We walked downstairs to the entrance of the house and I paused in my footsteps, slowly turning around to meet his gaze.

"Why do I feel like I am forgetting something?" I asked, biting my inner cheek as I tried to remember if I dropped something.

"I don't think you are forgetting anything," he smiled at me warmly.

"Thank you once again," I said before turning around and I walked out of the house. I walked towards the car and found my chauffeur already looking worried.

"Ms are you okay? I thought—"

"I'm fine," I said. "We should go now."

As he opened the car door for me, I glanced back to Alex who was standing at the door entrance of his house with a warm smile on his face. I couldn't help but feel grateful for his kindness. Stepping inside the car, the chauffeur drove us out of the compound.

When I arrived at my apartment, I met Olivia in the kitchen cooking lunch.

"You arrived earlier than usual," she said.

"Well I had to cancel my flight to France after I slept off at his house," I said feeling a bit tired.

She frowned. "You slept off at whose house?"

"Alexander," I responded. "Don't get me wrong, I didn't plan for it."

"And he was kind enough to let me sleep at his room," I said.

"And you trusted him?" Her eyes widened. "What if he tried to assault you when you were asleep."

"I am fine, Olive." I said not liking how she was sounding. "He didn't touch me."

"I am not trying to sound rude, I am only worried for you," she said, her expression softening. "What about the purse? Did you take it from him?"

At her words, my eyes widened and I realized that I had forgot to take my purse from him. I snapped my head to Olivia who was now staring at me intently.

"Don't tell me you forgot it again?" She tilted her head.

"I did," I bite my bottom lip in frustration.

"I will just call David to get it from his place," I said.

"Why do you keep forgetting it with him?" She asked.

"I don't know," I shook my head, before leaving the kitchen to grab my phone. I tried calling David but the call was going straight to voicemail. I then dropped the phone and went to join Olivia in the kitchen.

Later in the day, while Olivia had left to her house, I tried to call David again but his number wasn't reachable. Sighing to myself, I stood up from the couch. I would be leaving for France tomorrow and most of my important things are in the purse. I would need to get them before tomorrow. I should probably order a cab online to take me to his house.

Reaching there, I met him seated at the garden scrolling through the magazine he was holding.

Sensing my presence, he slowly raised his head to meet my gaze.

"What are you doing here?" He looked at me with a confused expression.

"I'm sorry for bothering you but I forgot to take my purse from you again. Please can I get it now?" I asked.

"Sure," he slowly stood up from the chair. Just as he took a step away from him, I felt my chest tighten in pain and panic set in.

I tried to stay calm and breathe slowly but the suffocation was getting worse. I reached out for my inhaler only to find out that it wasn't in my purse. I had forgot to bring it along with me.

"Wh…. What is going on?" Alexander asked hurrying to my side. I grabbed his arm, grasping for air as I fell down to my knees.

I could not speak up and all I could do was indicate that I was struggling to breathe. He stood up from the ground and he disappeared into the Mansion.

After what felt like an eternity but was only a few minutes, I saw him running towards me with a glass of water. I grabbed the glass of water from him and slowly began to gulp it. As the cool liquid went down my throat, relief slowly began to flood my chest. Before I could drink more, I felt darkness began to taint my vision and the glass slip from my hand.

What was happening to me? It was the water! My eyes moved to the water and before I could scream for help, I felt myself slowly fading away. The last thing I heard was Alexander's voice calling out my name.
