Sight of others

Chapter 5

Emma POV

As I slowly regained consciousness, I could feel the world around me swimming. Where am I? My eyes slowly peeled open to the interior of a car. Hearing the sound of thunder strike, I blinked once and tried to push myself up. But it was then I realized that my hands and legs were bound tightly with binds.

Panic set through me and my eyes widened in fear. I struggled against the restraints, while screaming and shouting but my voice came out barely above a whisper because of the heavy rainfall.

The car was spending along the road while turning in different directions. My eyes scanned the car searching desperately for any clue as to where I am.

And then my eyes landed on him. Alexander. At the sight of his face, memories flooded inside my head. The charming Alexander whom for unknown reasons I always seems to forget my pulse at his house. As I looked at him through the rear mirror, I saw smirk playing on his lips.

The water he offered me at his house! The dizziness I felt after drinking it. How could I have been so naive and let my guard down?

"What have you done to me?! Where are you taking me to?!" I screamed. He turns around to look at me but I don't see any remorse in his eyes.

"I am taking you somewhere you will be safe," he smiled at me. "I don't want you leaving me like you did last time, Tayla."

"How many times do I have to tell you I am Emma and not Tayla!" I screamed. He chuckled before turning around and he continued driving. The realization slowly starts sinking in that I am at the mercy of this man who is anything but kind.

The car continued to drive in speed and all I could think of was how I am going to get out of here before he stops driving. With my hands and feets bind, it was nearly impossible to escape from him.

I should have listened to Olivia's words. Not everything that glitters is actually gold. I had fallen for his charms. Having pity on him that he lost his wife. What if none of it was true? What if that was one of his schemes to take money from me.

But then again this man was beyond rich. His house, cars, they was something I couldn't afford even working as a model.

I have to do something! I tried to reach out for my pocket to find my phone but it was gone.

"What do you want from me?!" I screamed.

"Your love," he smiled.

"When you left me years ago I promised myself that I was not going to fall in love again," he said. "And now I met you again. We can continue our love story and have many kids as we want."

"What the hell are you talking about?" I asked.

"Have you forgotten how you left me in the hospital? How you died in my arms and how I cried for months thinking you would come back to me," he said. "Do you have any idea how you messed with my mindset? I thought I was going insane for a moment."

"This is a big misunderstanding, Alexander but I am not your wife," I said. "I don't know anything you are talking about."

"No!" He yelled and I flinched. "You are my dear wife. How can you say you don't know anything?"

"Because I do not," I said.

He didn't respond to me and he continued driving with so much speed that I could see his fingers trembling on the sterling.

"Stop the car!" I yelled.

He didn't respond.

"Alexander stop the car!" I yelled but he continued driving.

"If I hear your voice again I would put some tape on your mouth to stop you from talking," he warned me.

I remained quiet, shaking in fear as I thought of what would befall me when the car stops. Like where is he taking me to? What if his plan was to kill me?

At the thought of it, my eyes widened in fear and I shook my head.

"Please I beg you don't kill me," I said, my voice trembling. My parents were dead and I don't have much friends or let me say my friends are all fake. If something happens to me the only person who is going to worry about me is Olivia. The thought of seeing her in tears after hearing the news that I am missing dreaded me.

"Please," I said, my eyes burning with tears. All of a sudden, the car halted and I felt relief in my chest. Alexander stepped down from the car and he turned around to meet me. As he opened the door, my eyes widened when I saw tape on his hand.

"Please…. No…. Please…." I tried to kick him with my legs but he caught my legs and he pulled me closer. When his hand got too close to my mouth I bit his finger and he released the tape.

I tried to jump out of the car but I was too slow and he caught me again. This time he landed a blow across my face. I saw red and my left eye become swollen instantly. I was feeling dizzy with my body giving in and out.

"I…. I'm sorry….. I didn't mean to hurt you," he lifted me in his arms and he began walking. My second eye slowly fluttered close and my body was pulled into a world of darkness.

As my eyes peeled open, I found myself surrounded by darkness. The air around me was suffocating and I struggled to breathe. Panic kicked in as I realized I was cramped in the small space of the car's boot.

As I struggled for air, I kicked and screamed, hoping someone would hear me out and rescue.

Suddenly, the car came into an halt, and I froze. I remained quiet, hearing the sound of heavy footsteps approaching the car's boot.

The door creaked open and my gaze met with the familiar smile of Alexander as he stood before me with a warm expression.

"My dearest wife, Tayla," he began and I felt my chest squeezed in pain at the suffocating air. "We have gone far away from the sight of others. No matter how you try to run away from me, you are still my wife and there is nothing in this world that can pull us apart."
