When Light Elves transform into their more powerful Luminous Elf forms, they're able to control the light around their surroundings at will, this must be it...he's taken away the light that would've met my eyes, effectively blinding me.

I quickly sunk into the shadows in response, letting out a sigh of relief as my vision returned. He's got no control down here, so I'm not affected while I'm in the shadows...but that said, he'll probably take away my sight if I emerge up there again.
