Corey forced a smile and watched his parents set the table for his breakfast. He was now having his legs on the bed ready to eat what smelled so good.
"What happened?" His mother sat next to him by his right and began stroking his hair, his eyes went darker as he loved it. How much he had missed being cared for.
"I don't remember, I just feel pain," answered Corey
"Why would you drive that way? You could have died and... we've lost a child before and you knew what happened to me after I lost your brother. What do you think will happen now if I lose you?" Her face was red already.
And Corey wondered what happened to his mother after his supposed death. He wanted to ask but he chose not to know what happened to his mother.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly and it felt like bugs were crawling all over him as he said he was sorry because his uncle never trained to be kindhearted, he was raised to be cold and remorseless but the fact that wasn't an offspring of his uncle made him appear differently but he had to else...
"It's okay, we love you so live for us." This was his father's utterance. Corey forced a smile and stared at the food before him, he didn't know how to use that cutlery. In the village where he was raised, he was used to eating with his hands and he mostly eat vegetables and fruit, the main reason why he was so healthy. And he was used to eating with a spoon. Even with the meat, he was craving right now, he didn't know how to use the cutlery to cut and eat so he stayed quiet.
"Claire will be back soon though, she needed to see a client," his mother smiled.
"Who's Claire?" He asked. He knew his brother knew so much about Claire and he wanted to know her too even though it was weird.
"Claire?" His father asked, he was standing by his left. "Since you barely remember anything, you guys met in college," he explained. "Well, things happened and you both are getting married."
"Why?" Donald asked. "I don't want this," he added.
"You!" Mr Tiffins let out a heavy sigh. "You are the CEO now and a big power requires a big amount of responsibility."
Donald glared at his father as if to slaughter him. "I don't want her."
"She wants you, that's how stubborn she is," his mother said.
"She's just...I don't want a woman right now, I'm just twenty-seven and that's just in a few weeks... it's not even up to two weeks before I turn twenty-seven and you are...this pressure is way too much for me." Suddenly, Corey felt exhausted.
His parents glanced at each other. "Your engagement was supposed to be tomorrow but your condition isn't good so we postpone it to the weekend," said his mother.
Donald stared at the both of them with wicked eyes before sighing. "Did I ever agree to this?"
"Both of you have gone on a date, you agreed to it. I believe you chat with her and share... something," Daisy, his mother winced. Donald had lied to her that he went on a date with Claire and Claire had covered it up for him. So they believe they were doing fine as a couple
"Do whatever you want to do," he breathed after a long moment of silence. "Now, I want peace for myself, your presence suffocates me," Corey was being honest and the way his parents reacted shocked him. Was Donald the same way with them?
"Get well soon," the patted him after apologizing for being so suffocating. Corey looked away but sensed them leaving the room for him.
He sighed and pressed his head down, what was he going to do? He didn't know he was going to get married to someone and to that stubborn girl! He didn't want a marriage, he wasn't interested in love because he didn't need it. His life had always been about him surviving, he trained with his uncle who claimed to have also been treated badly by his brother.
Corey tiredly lifted his head to see the food before him, he was free now, he could eat the way he wanted but he needed to pee.
After struggling to walk to the door, he regretted not having a nurse with him, he had refused to have a personal nurse as his condition wasn't critical, he only suffered from bad joint pain and body pain because of his head. So much for revenge.
After peeing, he washed his hands and stared at his figure in the mirror. Now, Corey was a tall man with a broad back and thick body, he appeared slender. His face wasn't perfect because of his nose. His nose was so narrowed, making his lips look kissable and causing his eyes to appear catty, his hair was black and strands fell just above his forehead. The man was interested in farming, he had farmed his whole life and he loved it. He had been trained by his uncle to be a fighter.
After drying his hands he went to his room, sat on the bed and began eating with his hands. With that, he fell asleep. Being alone wasn't new to him as he had been alone for many years. So he just stared into space until his eyes closed up.
Corey's heart was shaken almost out of his cage the moment he opened his eyes and only his face expressed his shock. He opened his eyes only for him to see Claire staring at him as he was facing the visitor's bed. He growled as he rolled over to rest on his side, he didn't hate her but her clinginess was annoying. His uncle had grown in him an unfriendly attitude so he wasn't good with words.
"Did you enjoy your day?" He heard her voice but didn't answer, he just shut his eyes close trying to remember his dream. "Donald," she mentioned his name cutely.
"What?" He asked with his arm over his face.
"I'm so happy to see you but you don't seem happy, you hate me," she pushed him by his arm.
"Urgh," he rolled back to lay on his back and there, he met her gaze. "Don't you have anything to do?"
"Come on, it's evening already, I'm done with work," her hand was on his shoulder. "I brought dinner, I'll be staying with you tonight," she lifted the bag that was by her side.
Corey relented and brought himself to sit, "What do you do?" He asked.
Claire immediately narrowed her gaze, "you really don't remember me, Donald. Is that why you act so cold with me?" Why ask? He had always been cold to her.
"Forget it," he was exasperated, he hated that he was being stared at while he was asleep so, at the moment, he was upset with her.
"I'm hurt, you don't even care about my feelings anymore," she pouted. Corey stared into her eyes for a while and looked away.
"I peed without your help," he told her, unaware of why he did.
"I couldn't stop thinking about you the whole day, will you be fine? Kept ringing in my head."
"Well, thank you," he looked away.
"I got something for you," she opened her bag and began searching while he watched her. Then she brought out her hand and show him her ring finger, it had his brother's name tattooed on her ring finger. "Do you like it?" Her eyes sparked when she looked at him for a positive answer. "It's temporary though, I'll make it permanent when we have our first sex, after marriage," she smiled.
Corey stared into her eyes and chuckled, "first sex you say?" He asked. "Okay, what if my name isn't Donald will you change it?"
"That's confusing but do you like it?"
"I don't," he admitted.
"Jerk!" She muttered under her breath. "Why?" she asked
"What?!" He narrowed his eyes. "I heard you call me a jerk," he pointed out.
"I...you..."
"Me? how old are you anyway, to call me a jerk?" He asked and was sure he was older than her.
