Story of Jairam

The young man's name was Jairam.

He was the eye and lamp of a noble Rajput family of Kathiawar.

In his early youth, his desire for fame and fortune took him to the land of Sindh.

In a fair of Burhamanabad,he showed his shooting skills and made the King(Raja) of Sindh appreciative. The King(Raja) retained him by giving him a minor post in his army. After two years of service,Jairam got the post of vice-governor of Dabil after an argument.

It had not been a week since he came to Dabil, that he received the news of his father's death and his mother's illness from home and he took a few months' leave and reached Kathiawar.

Ten days after reaching home, his mother also passed away.

Only his younger sister Maya Devi was in the house now.

Inspired by the advice of his relatives and the tears of Maya Devi,Jairam gave up the idea of going back to Sindh, but after staying at home for four months,he began to feel bitter about his quiet life and one day he entered the service of the King(Raja) of Kathiawar. He applied for a job.

This was the period when the King(Raja) of Sindh had begun to encroach on the neighboring small states in order to expand his sphere of power, and as a proof of his recognition of the independent chief and king as his powerful neighbor, part of his revenue was given to him.

What did they do?

Although the King(Raja) of Kathiawar had no direct threat from the King(Raja) of Sindh,

he considered it a prize to make him his friend in return for some gold and silver.

Instead of giving Jairam a position in his court, he thought it more appropriate to take advantage of his influence in Sindh, and sent him into the service of the King(Raja) of Sindh with a chest of gold, jewels and pearls.

Jairam was sure that King(Raja) Dahir would not allow him to return.

So he did not think it proper to leave his sister Maya Devi alone at home -

Maya Devi was also reluctant to go with him.

Therefore, both of them left their home and went to Sindh, entrusting it to their uncle.

But between Kathiawar and Sindh, his ship had to fight with pirates.

His companions fought bravely but did not succumb to the robbers.

The bandits captured the jewel box, freed their companions except Jairam and Maya Devi by bringing them to the seashore.

The bandit chief used to say that Jairam and Maya Devi were dear to Kathiawar and he would be willing to pay a reasonable sum to save their lives. So he anchored on the uninhabited part of Kathiawar's coast.

Spy wanted to make this deal, but one of his spies informed him of the arrival of Sarandeep's ships, and instead of wandering around Kathiawar, he turned to Malabar.

After hearing this story, Zubair once again scolded Jairam and his sister and said that these robbers are our criminals as well as your criminals.

I have not yet decided what to punish them for.

However, I know how they are punished in your country.

Jairam replied,There is no room for mercy in our law and in your law for such cruel pirates, but when you had a fight with these people, you locked me and my sister in a corner of the ship. And after the ship caught fire, these people wanted to leave us alone.

For myself I might not have begged them for mercy, but for my sister I had to be humbled, and before they put us on board the boat they made us promise that I would recommend them to you to spare their lives.

I don't mean to let them go free,I just want to save them from death penalty.

But it is necessary to keep them in prison until they are satisfied that they will come to the right path.Maya Devi could not stand for long due to illness.

She said something to his brother and before he answered something,

Dilip Singh said, Oh!

We did not know that your sister is ill.

Khalid, son, take her to your sister.

Khalid went forward and Maya Devi looked at her brother.

Jairam asked Dilip Singh, are there women on this plane?

Yes!

Your sister will not be hurt in any way.

Yes, daughter, go!

You rest.
