Kaboom!

Thunder resounded in the skies as lightning flashed intermittently, the flashes highlighting an old courtyard where a pomeranian whimpered in fear every time it happened.

It huddled within its kennel, shrinking in fear from the lightning flashes. Next to the kennel was a chicken coop where the hatchlings chirped incessantly in alarm. Thunder was terrifying to all creatures, including humans.

And for these hatchlings, it was akin to the world crashing down on them. Among the group was one hatchling, somewhat different from the rest, born with an unsavoury mutation of sorts that caused its brethren to avoid it.

Though, the case wasn't present now, for they were all huddled together. Fear truly brings everyone together.

Boom!

A thin bolt of lightning slammed into the chicken coop, targeting this unique chick, knocking it unconscious, frightening the other chicks that retreated in fear. Arcs of lightning flashed across them all, knocking them all unconscious in a matter of seconds.

Intense rain poured after that, causing the sounds of thunder to gradually die down. It was morning a few hours later as the rain stopped. The sun cast a gentle beam of light onto the area, making the frightened chickens relieved at the warmth.

A rooster perched at the top of the chicken coop unleashed its victorious cries, welcoming the arrival of a brand new day.

Cocka-doodle-doo!

At the sound, the chicks in the coop woke up one after another, including the ones electrocuted. They limped from time to time, but were fine for the most part, as the bolt of lightning wasn't dangerous enough to end their lives.

One of them approached the unique chick that now sported a tiny black mark on the crown of its head, nudging it a little, wondering if it was dead.

Purr!

The unique chick woke up with a start, feeling numb all over, but strangely, as it glanced at its fellow brethren, its eyes glinted. It felt strange…as if it had grasped something beyond its evolutionary capabilities, attaining enlightenment.

"The rains were worse yesterday. Part of my shed collapsed." A voice resounded, startling the unique chick that turned around and noticed two men exit the house nearby, conversing with one another.

Surprisingly, it was able to understand the context of their conversation.

"Anyway, I'm starving. Let's have breakfast." One of the men, a middle-aged man sporting a dark-green goatee said, arriving at the chicken coop to observe, smiling as he picked up a chicken, "Let's have chicken for breakfast."

"You want to eat meat early in the morning?" The other man, his son, asked in surprise, "Can't we have eggs instead?"

"You need to eat healthy to study hard." The middle-aged man said before carrying the chicken by the scruff of its neck, bringing it over to a table–one made using the stump of a tree.

The chicken struggled as his iron-like arms held its neck steady, picking up a meat cleaver that he raised to the sky before bringing it down with one swing.

'Mom!' The unique chick chirped its loudest, alarmed at the horrifying sight, watching the blood of the creature that gave birth to it splash. Blinding light burst out of its body before strangely, it transformed into a human woman.

'What…is happening?' Unlike before, the unique chick's thoughts were rapid, concisely articulated like an adult human as an instant later, hatred billowed out of it…
