Chapter 8: Neetmal

DAMON 'S POV -

Chris took us outside Kendall's room and pointed at the entrance saying," This is where the vial was lying when I found it."

"Strange.", an unfamiliar voice croaked out from behind us. My undead dad growled," Behemoth, why are you here?"

The person called Behemoth by my father walked lazily towards him.

"Answer the damn question, will you?", my father croaked out losing his temper.

"Well sire, I was just searching for the girl and since I haven't seen her yet, I followed a female scent which does not match anyone in the castle. But, surprisingly, the scent disappears from here."

" How could that be? She surely didn't vanish into thin air?", I asked frustrated.

" Goddamit!", a voice sharper than a knife came out as Chris punched a nearby wall which fell apart completely to reveal a hidden passage. "Unholy shi...",even before the undead king could complete the sentence, I rushed down the passage only to find a big cavernous dungeon. I searched for Samarah everywhere and eventually found her lying on the ground at the end of the tunnel. Completely unconscious.

KENDALL 'S POV -

A group of royal physicians came rushing to me. They seemed to have seen death itself. Solemnly, one of them stepped forward and said," Your Highness, the poison seems to have traces of neetmal.", My heart stopped upon hearing the word.

If there was anything as harmful as silver to werewolves then it definitely had to be neetmal. Depending upon the dosage, it could cause a slow decaying death. Some even consider it to be worse than silver.

"Is the antidote ready?", Miranda asked with a flushed face. She was completely drenched in sweat and seemed to run a high fever. Almost as if the neetmal was affecting her.

The physician looked at me to say what needed to be said. I walked over to her and gently placed my hand on her shoulder. Her body temperature seemed normal.

Then I sat her down. My body shuddered as I confessed,"Miranda, there is no exact antidote for neetmal. No one in the world has discovered it. We just have certain treatments to hopefully get it to slow down so that the body's immunity can fight it off."

"You can't be serious right now.", Miranda 's voice broke.

"Usually, werewolves fail but since Samarah has vampire blood, she might be able to pull it off. She might survive.", I choked at my own word: 'might'.

At that moment," Damon burst through the door carrying Samarah with Chris screaming behind," Help her! She's unconscious!"

The physicians hurried over to her. They immediately carried her to the royal treatment wing and surprisingly asked except for the vampire king and Damon, to stay back.

After a while, the head physician returned back. Each one of us looked at him with eager eyes to hopefully get some positive information.

He pulled me apart from the prying eyes and strictly announced," I refuse to operate on her, Your Highness. It is of no disrespect towards you but the late queen had declared mixedbloods to be outlawed. Thus, operating on her would be treason on my part to her."

I was taken aback after hearing such harsh words from one of the most respected individuals in our society. But I realised that if he refused there was no one better in the kingdom who could revive her.

So, biting my lips, I decided to do the unthinkable and revealed that the blood flowing through Samarah's veins was that of the late queen and treason would be refusing to treat a member of the royal family.

Then I said," There are more mixedbloods around us than you can imagine and soon they won't remain as outlaws anymore.", I said glancing towards Ken.

The physician looked flabbergasted as he looked at Ken. Then with much hesitation he walked away saying," For the late queen.", through clenched teeth.

I walked towards Miranda who sat completely motionless looking outside the window and narrated to her the altercation between the royal physician and myself. She didn't respond and instead just continued to stare outside the window. I figured she needed time to digest all that had taken place.
