Chapter 9: No running away

MIRANDA 'S POV -

I saw Samarah being taken away and suddenly everything felt distorted. Quietly, I sat down facing the window to get some air. Inside my mind, a strong voice called out; blaming me for all the bad things that had happened.

It encouraged me to destroy this wretched race and end all sufferings. I struggled to stand up against it. I tried to find some sort of energy to hold onto, to ground myself amongst the sea of fearful energy of the royals, frustrations of Ken, Damon's breaking heart, vampire king's tears; as all these emotions tried to overwhelm me and then suddenly all I felt was a void.

It seemed to take all the suffering away. It felt like a weighted blanket around me, covering all the harsh emotions.

I felt as if it was absorbing all the energies around me. Even the sharp voice inside me had stopped. I tried to find out what this energy was exactly. So, I got up trying to follow it's source but the recent overwhelming episode had caused a toll on me and I slipped five steps in. I grabbed the nearest object tightly to save myself from a nasty fall in front of the courtiers.

Unable to hold on too long though, I loosened my grip eventually, only to have a strong pair of arms lift me up.

KENDALL 'S POV -

I saw Chris carrying Miranda as he rushed past the big oak doors. I immediately took after him and stopped him asking," What happened? Why is she unconcious?".

He replied," I saw her stumbling along the corridor. She looked like she was about to faint so I rushed towards her from the end of the hallway and caught her just in the nick of time."

"Why didn't you bring her to me?", I questioned. He angrily smirked," To you? Among yor royals who did see her stumbling but none rose to help her?",he asked darkly. "I would rather take her to the physician " he added walking away.

Inspite of him not being totally trustworthy, I restrained myself from stopping him. This instant, he seemed to be a better choice for Miranda than my room full of courtiers, who found their egos to be more precious than saving someone, especially Miranda.

I decided to make some changes as I stormed into the conference room. My mood akin to cloud bearing thunderstorms.

DAMON 'S POV -

Ever since Samarah had fallen unconscious, I had felt like a part of me had disappeared. Something seemed amiss. At times, it felt vacant. I have heard that mates go crazy when one of them dies. I wonder if the same fate would....

No, no ,no.... I can't think like this. I won't think like this. My mate will wake up. She knows her love is waiting for her.

Gently stroking her hair, I lay my head on the little space on the bed. Tubes hooked to her arms and beautiful face horrified me.

Upon closing my eyes, her pale face flashed before me continuously. Had Miranda not provided me strength with her energy, I would have gone crazy by now. Maybe my duty to her is the only reason keeping me from crossing into insanity.

Thinking about Miranda, I suddenly felt a lack of her energetic presence and unable to take the exhaustion anymore, black spots began appearing before my eyes, merging together to spread the darkness.

MIRANDA 'S POV -

I found myself feeling weightless as if floating in space. I found myself to enjoy the feeling of nothingness that filled me in this new place full of light. I felt free from the anxieties and uncertainties surrounding my life these past few months.

In fact, there was a lack of feeling in the large unending white cavern I was in. Then suddenly, a small black blotch appeared at a farway corner. As it approached me, it's green eyes invoked the sense of familiarity in me. Five steps away from me it awaited. And just like earlier, unable to resist it's pull, I raced towards it. But instead of running away or showing me horrifying visuals ( like earlier, which had ended up with me going to the shrink.), it waited patiently for me. Then a source less voice whispered to me," I can't bear to run away anymore. It's upto you now." As I shifted my focus back to the dark mass, I realised that I was going to crash into it.

Instead of moving aside, it reached out its hand to me and unlike numerous other times, I didn't scare away from it and I reached towards it.

My eyes flew open and I saw a familiar face inches away from mine. The pair of blue eyes seemed to gaze intently on mine. Chris gently said to me," I have set you down on the bed. You can let go of me now." Confusedly, I looked at my hands and realised that I had been clutching his shirt tightly. However, instead of letting go of the fabric, I pulled on it and our noses ended up touching. My mouth ran against my will, saying, " I can't bear to run away."

" It's upto you now.", he completed.

Goosebumps appeared on my skin and I pushed him away. Speechlessly, I looked at him for a second before his voice broke the tension," You were mumbling these lines in your sleep as well. Did you have a nightmare of some sort?" Although his reasoning made sense but somehow, I felt as if he knew more than he was letting on.

" I guess.", I said suspicious of him.

"Well anyways...I will get some water and a cold towel for you. You look flushed right now. Maybe you are having a fever."

I felt my cheeks quickly. Surely, they were hot but I wasn't feeling feverish.
