“Aish. Why do I need to increase my intelligence?”
After breakfast, Baek Hyun tried helping him to the bathroom and the child kicked the older male out, claiming he is fine on his own. Right after everything is done and he starts brushing teeth, Hyun appears behind him.
“Why stay at level A when you can upgrade to level S?”
Jaehyun had to agree on that statement. Then, he came out with a maid escorting him to the living room. Upon arriving at the crime scene— I mean, the living room, he came across Baek Hyun holding both of his mother’s hands. As if he was grateful for something.
“I will do my best to make you fall for me! Thank you for this opportunity-“
“Ehem.”
Both adults saw the child smiling which resulted in them moving away from each other. Jinhye, Jaehyun’s mother, was practising for this the whole morning. How to be a perfect wife, how to not fall for Baek Hyun and ways to be an elegant woman. All the criteria needed to be Baek Hyun’s contracted partner.
But it's a few minutes after being his fiancee and she’s already flustered.
“Good morning, honey. Did you sleep well?”
“Yes. Did you go home without me?” Jaehyun questioned.
“U-uh. I kind of need alone time to prepare mentally. Sorry I left you here.”
Right after they went out, a black car stopped in front of them. Baek Hyun didn’t hesitate to lift Jaehyun up before entering. The driver smiles at the three of them. The news he heard from his boss was real. Baek Hyun is getting married soon.
He’s not judging even if the woman is old or is someone who got divorced with a child. The woman looks graceful and matches Baek Hyun’s vibes. He had this gut feeling that the three of them will be a great family. Jaehyun was wondering where the three of them were going.
But then, he saw a familiar building.
And what in the world—?
There’s a congratulations banner with his mother and best friend on it. No. Does the whole world know about this now? At least he's not there.
“Sorry kiddo. I thought we shouldn't expose you too much. You need a normal life before you get into this…entertainment world.”
Come to think of it, Jaehyun won't be forced to join the entertainment world again, would he?
Baek Hyun saw how awkward the kid acted and was wondering if he said something wrong. Jinhye, the mother, had this instinct that her son is thinking about his future already.
“Honey. You don't have to like the entertainment world. Also, it's not compulsory for you to enter it either. This is a contracted marriage after all…”
Right when she thought the child didn't hear the last part, Jaehyun just smiles at her.
“Mom. Even if it's a contract marriage or it will be a real marriage, I will never choose to be on tv. I have my own dream job.”
To Baek Hyun, it sounds like a parent talking to her teenage son. He saw the child looking at him as if he's telepathically saying sorry because he's not choosing the same path as Baek Hyun.
“Don't worry. Do whatever you like. I won't choose your future for you,” Baek Hyun whispered as he pats the child.
Finally, when they arrived at the car park, Jinhye lifted Jaehyun before starts following Baek Hyun.
“Sir, all reporters are here.”
“My parents?”
“They're waiting in the next room. I will inform them about your arrival.”
Baek Hyun turned around to grab Jaehyun from Jinhye. His other hand held her hand dearly.
“We will face a lot of reporters and you don't have to be nervous. Can you do it?”
Jinhye noded and right on time, two people approached them.
“Baek Hyun, my son!” Baek Hyun was attacked by a hug from his mother.
Jaehyun, who is stuck in between, regrets living a little. Surely they should know how to be careful around children.
“Oh my! How beautiful! My daughter in law is beautiful! Isn't that right, honey?”
Baek Hyun’s father smiles and nods his head.
“T-thank you for the compliment….ma’am.”
“Mother. Just call me mother.” Jaehyun just laughs at his mother getting a pinch on cheek.
“This little guy is-?” Right when Jaehyun saw his new grandfather staring while asking him that, he had to look professional.
It's the CEO after all.
“My…son.”
A moment of silence fills the air.
Then…
“Even better! We get a grandson right after gaining a daughter in law!”
This family is too optimistic to Jaehyun and his mother. They take everything positively. It's good for them. Without wasting more time, they ready and meet the reporters.
“BAEK HYUN IS HERE!”
‘What the– Some of these people are not even reporters. They're Baek Hyun’s fans!’ Jaehyun sweatdrop.
Glad to know people still love his best friend.
“Is it true sir? You're already engaged and on your way to get married?”
“Uh. Yes. As you guys should know by now…There's incidents that caused me to retire early from the entertainment world and now I handle the company with my father. I found a love life and decided, since I am retired, I should use this chance to marry the one I love.”
The sounds of reporters typing are so loud that Jaehyun sighs proudly. Too popular to handle.
“We all should know the woman next to you is your fiancee. But I find out the woman is actually older than you and she's the company cleaner. How do you know she's not marrying you for money?”
“What?”
“How old is she?”
“Cleaner?”
Right when that one reporter asked her question, it makes the other questions it too. People can't believe Baek Hyun would lower his standards to date someone with low status.
For the age gap part, people still don't know how much older she is than Baek Hyun.
“That–”
Before Jinhye could answer, her soon to be husband stops her.
“I don't care if she's older than me.
Also, even if she marries me for my money, she still chooses me in the end. I love her, I would give everything to the one I love.”
“But–”
“You don't have to worry since she won't be using your money anyways.”
Jaehyun let out a laugh.
It makes the reporters focus on him next.
“Did the two of you adopt a child together?”
“No. This is my son,” Jinhye answered this time.
That somehow silences them.
